d. Naval S t r ike Warfare Center Journal: An article was authored by a VF-2 junior o f f i ce r and published i n t$e winter 1987 issue of "AIMPOINT", the EW Journal. "Strike and S A l W G waypointsn by LCDR Term Reid, detailed how to u t i l i z e s t r i k e and SAR waypoints to provide increased s i t ua t iona l awareness i n h o s t i l e environments.

e. SURGE '86 CiJW-2 Debrief: Actively par t ic ipated, i n and supplied the in te l l i sence data for post-SUEIGE debrief a t NAS ~Yiramar. Discussed observed tac t ics -eq loyed by G i e t f igh te r interceptors along the Soviet buffer zone. Produced a shor t videotape of t a c t i c a l debriefs for dissemination to intel l igence l ib ra r ies .

f . Escorted Bomber Tactics: VF-2 flew numerous sorties i n support of CVW2 TAC D & E project to validate/evaluate CVW-2 a B W 3 ( i n i t i a t e d and plblished by VF-2) f ighter tactias against escorted bomber platforms attaching the b a t t l e group.

g. AWti9 Tape 1 1 4 Wan: A VF-2 junior of f icer , LT determined the poss ib i l i t y of exploi ta t ion of the Automatic Channel Selection (ACS) ECG4 feature i n tape ll4A i f u t i l i zed i n a t ra ining environment. H i s finding was directed to and resolved a t the CNO level; the use of t h i s feature was res t r ic ted and is currently considered a war reserve mde.

h. WGUN Journal: An article was authored and submitted by a VF-2 junior o f f i ce r concerning unique SURGF, aps i n the Sea of Japan. LT Greg Hansen's a r t i c l e is scheduled for publication i n the Surmr '87 Journal.

i. Tact ical Tape Verificatiion: VF-2 provided t a c t i c a l ve r i f i ca t ion of I

-9 tape 114B pr ior to its intrroduction to the f l ee t . The tape was exclusively used i n a l l a i r c r a f t during VF-2's gun d e t and 26 May 87 MISSILEX ( s ix successful f i r ings) . I

FOT & E: VF-2 par t ic ipated i n s i x demanding FCrr & E missile f i r i n g s adhering to exact parameters, which allowed valuable missile/KS performance da ta to be disseminated to the Eleet by VX-4. Conducted the f i r s t f i r i n g ever of an AIM-54A with TCS lock only; missile guided to a k i l l , VF-2 received a "BRAVO ZULUn i n the Sunmer 1987 VX-4 Newsletter for outstanding per'formance.

8. CUYWUDING OEFICER'S CQII1MEMS: 1986-87 was a tremendously successful per id for the Bounty Hunters. The squadron was errtsarked i n USS RMGEXt for two SURGE'S and a major WES?PAC/IO deploymnt providing c r i t i c a l support of U.S. foreign policy in the Pac i f ic Theatre and, notably, the Middle East. Despite an enbarked PERSIEMPO of 59.6% (66.5% overall) the Bounty Hunters were able to successfully a c c q l i s h a l l major milestones i n the turnarcund t ra ining plan and maintain s t a t u s as the leaders i n t i c t i c a l contr ibut ions to the Pac i f ic Fleet f igh te r comunity. While deployed, the squadron enjoyed incredible readiness' statistics and led the airwing i n met ing or exceeding a l l operational taskings.
