• Purpose of the B.Ed (Hons) Education Management, Law

and Policy (PRACTICAL & RESEARCH)

• B.Ed Hons EMPS package consists of 8 modules

scheduled:

– as 2 modules per semester for part-time students and

– four modules per semester for full time students.

• A research component (NMQ 745 & 755 – WEM 781 project

is compulsory)

• Complete academic record of all previous studies

• Submit a research concept note - falls within the research foci of

EMPS

• Computer literacy is strongly recommended for admission

• Duration of study and requirements for MEd degrees

• Students who register must complete their studies within two years

after first registering for the degree.

• You will be assigned a supervisor based on the topic.

• Both MEds completion of 1 compulsory course work module

• Modules are presented on 15 Saturday VIRTUAL /

Contact sessions between February and October

ONLY in the 1st year of registration.

• BOTH Med & PhD - After registration student and

his/her supervisor will sign a Memorandum of

Understanding, an agreement of expectations to set

realistic goals and achieve those research milestones.

• All applications for PhD studies - subject to a rigorous selection process

• Complete academic record of all previous studies

• Attend the compulsory seminars and discussion classes.

• Duration of study and requirements for doctoral degrees

• Students who register for a doctorate must complete their studies within three years after first registering for the degree.

Doctoral Programmes - Dr N. Sing– Submit a research proposal during the first year of

registration and defend it successfully

– Submit a thesis for examination on a topic approved by

the Dean on the recommendation of the Head of

Department; and

– Submit proof of submission of an article issued by an

accredited journal.

AdvDip (SLM)

• To empower and enable school leaders to develop the skills,knowledge and values needed to lead and manage schoolseffectively and efficiently,

• to work together in communities of practice and to contributeto improving the quality of delivery of education across theschool system.

BEd Hons (EMLP)

• Improve and enhance educational professional developmentand practice of educators, trainers, facilitators and developmentpractitioners in the classroom, school, university, technical andvocational education and training (TVET) colleges, the corporateworld and in the wider community context.

Entry requirements

AdvDip (SLM)

• A four-year Bachelor of Education degree,

• A former four-year Higher Diploma in Education

• A general first degree

• Diploma, plus a Postgraduate Certificate in Education,

• A former Postgraduate Higher Diploma in Education

• A former Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE) (Level 6 on the former eight-level NQF)

• A former Further Diploma in Education, which follows a former professional teaching qualification

• Recognition of prior learning (RPL) – ACE (SML)

• Complete ICT training

• Have access to a computer, as well as to internet and sign a declaration stating this

• Enquire about the possibility of receiving financial support

BEd Hons (EMLP)

• A bachelor’s degree and a teacher’s diploma/Postgraduate Certificate in Education (e.g. BA + PGCE)

• A four-year composite degree in Education (e.g. BEd, BAEd)

• A holder of another M+4 teacher’s diploma (i.e. former HED) - first complete a new Advanced Diploma at Level 7

• Complete ICT training

From Hybrid to E-learning mode of Instruction

▪ Three (3) x 1-day online sessions:

• 1 day ClickUP training prior to start of block (compulsory to complete registration)

• 1 day content orientation at start of block

• 1 day review session towards end of block to review learnings

▪ Continuous communication through ClickUP, E-mail and bulk sms

▪ Weekly online activities with e-tutor support

▪ E-library resources (approximately 2,5 hours/week x 10 weeks/module)

Study costs

• Cost of the full programme is levied upon registration

• The amount can be paid in instalments

• Students from Southern African Development

Community (SADC) countries are charged the same

study fees as South African students

• Study fees for international students from other countries

are available on request

• PG students automatically qualify for the UP bursary once

accepted for admission

• The bursary becomes repayable if you do not fulfil the

conditions stated in the agreement form or if you

terminate studies or discontinue for whatever reason.

• More internal and external funding opportunities are

available once registered and they are acquired by merits
