Introduction
Sentences – Writing / Revising / Editing – Grade 1 – Set 7 of 9 is
the seventh set in a series of sentence writing lessons for students in Grade
1. There are 20 sentence revising and editing pages for students to read,
revise, and edit. Students will be correcting for capitalization, punctuation,
grammar, and spelling of sight words. Students can complete one page per
day. There are four weeks with five pages per week for each set. There will
be 9 sets in this series. They will correspond to the months of September
through May of first grade. Set one fits well with September. Set two will
fit with October and so on. This chart shows how the sets in this series will
fill out the school year.
Month Set Reading Level
September Set 1 4 - 5
October Set 2 6 - 7
November Set 3 8 – 9
December Set 4 10 – 11
January Set 5 12 – 13
February Set 6 14 – 15
March Set 7 16 - 17
April Set 8 18
May Set 9 18 - 20
Set 7 has sentences written at the end of the first grade level.
Sentences in the other sets in the Grade 1 series correspond to the reading
levels as noted in the chart above.
Each page consists of a set of directions, a picture, a sentence with
two errors, handwriting lines for the students to write the sentence
correctly, and boxes for the student to rewrite each word from their
correctly written sentence. These boxes can be cut up, mixed up, and then
rearranged into the sentence. These writing exercises help students develop
their skills through daily practice. The skills and concepts taught will be
reinforced and maintained through this daily practice. Each sentence sheet
can be done at school as part of a center, beginning-of-the-day practice,
partner work, or sent home as homework. An answer key is provided for both
teacher and students. Students can keep track of the sentences that they

have completed by coloring in the appropriate boxes on the “My Work Is
Finished! sheet.
My Sentences – Writing / Revising / Editing – Grade 1 – Teacher
Lessons includes sentence writing lessons that a teacher can conduct with
students. These teacher lessons can be used in conjunction with the
Sentences – Writing / Revising / Editing – Grade 1 – sets for students.
The teacher lessons packet includes materials that can be used with these
student sentence writing, revising, and editing resources. Refer to my
listings on the TeachersPayTeachers website for additional information.
A set of 20 pages with a picture but no sentence is included in these
student sets. This allows the students to write their own sentence or
sentences. Each of these pages included boxes for the student to rewrite
each word from their sentences. These boxes can be cut up, mixed up, and
then rearranged into the sentences.
There is also a set of 20 pages with a picture but not sentence that
does not have the cut-up boxes. These pages have more handwriting lines for
students to write expanded sentences that include adjectives and adverbs
to describe words in the sentences.
Students can use the “Student Sentence Writing Checklist” (included
in the Teacher Lessons packet) to check over each sentence and correct, if
necessary. There are two checklists. One is a bit easier than the other. The
students can also use a “Student Sentence Writing Rubric” (included in the
Teacher Lessons packet) to evaluate their own sentence writing or those of
other students. There are two rubrics to choose for the students. A
“Teacher Sentence Writing Rubric” (included in the Teacher Lessons packet)
is included for the teacher to use to evaluate student sentence writing.
A blank picture page with handwriting lines and blank cut up boxes is
included in each set. This allows the teacher to print as many of theses
pages as needed for students to draw their own picture and write their own
sentence or sentences to go with the picture.
A list of sight words is included in this series. These are basic grade 1
sight words. The sight words are included in the 20 sentences that need to

5
be revised, edited, and rewritten by the students. There is also a complete
list of the sight words that will be used in the entire series. The “Teacher
Sight Word List” shows all of the sight words for the entire series. It also
shows which of the sight words are included in this first set.
The numbers in parenthesis after each sentence in the “Student
Revising / Editing Sentences” section in the Table of Contents shows the
teacher which set, which week, and which day in that week. For example, the
numbers 7.1.1 tell the teacher that this is the seventh set, the first week,
and the first day of that week. Another example is 2.4.3. This means the
second set, the fourth week, and the third day of that week. These numbers
mean this anywhere they show up in the product.
“Sight Word Flashcards”, “Sight Word Practice Cards”, and a spelling
practice sheet, is included in the Teacher Lessons packet. Refer to my
listings on the TeachersPayTeachers website for additional information.
I hope you find these lessons and sentence writing materials effective
in helping your students become successful writers.
