2.0 INTENT OF SPECIFICATION

2.1 This specification is intended to cover the design, engineering, manufacture, shop

fabrication, assembly, pre-assembly, tests and inspection at manufacturer’s works, packing and shipment, erection and commissioning of EOT Crane to M/s. Delhi MSW Solutions Limited, New Delhi.

2.2 The equipment and services furnished shall meet all the requirement of this specification,

data sheets etc. In case of any conflict / contradiction among various parts of the specification and data sheets, the same shall be referred to the engineer for clarification whose decision shall be final and binding.

2.3 It is not the intent to specify completely herein all aspects of design and construction of

equipment. Nevertheless, the equipment shall conform in all respects to high standards of engineering, design and workmanship and shall be capable of performing in continuous commercial operation in a manner acceptable to the owner who will interpret the meaning of the specification, drawings and shall have right to reject or accept any work or material which in their assessment is not complete to meet the requirements of this specification and / or applicable national and / or international standards mentioned elsewhere in the specification.

2.4 If any provision of this specification departs from the bidder's usual construction

sufficiently to materially increase cost of equipment without (in Bidder's opinion) providing a corresponding increase in quality or if the bidder considers that their usual construction would provide better quality, the bidder shall call this to the attention of the owner by submitting an alternative bid. However, in any case, a base bid shall be submitted based on the equipment and services as specified.

2.5 Whenever material or item is specified or described by the name of a particular brand,

manufacturer or trademark, the specific item shall be understood as establishing type, function and quality desired. Other manufacturer's products may also be considered provided sufficient information is furnished so as to enable the owner to determine that the products are equivalent to those named.

3.0 SCOPE OF SUPPLY AND SERVICES The following shall be the scope of supply and services for the EOT crane and auxiliaries for the project:- Design, engineering, manufacture, procurement, quality control, shop cleaning, calibration, testing, painting, transportation, shipment to site, erection and commissioning, and performance testing of One (1) No. EOT Crane at power house for maintenance purpose. 3.1 Supply 3.1.1 EOT crane main girder, main & auxiliary hoists, gear boxes, end carriages, CT and LT

wheels, ropes and drums, supports, etc. 3.1.2 Crane runway rails for long travel & cross travel (90 lbs/yd and 60 lbs/yd minimum). 3.1.3 Rail Fixing material on the PURCHASER’S Gantry. 3.1.4 DSL (GI conductor with PVC colour insulated) with current collector system & double

earthing arrangement. 3.1.5 Push button station with lamps, Current collectors/insulators and fixtures for the crane

runway length. 3.1.6 Festooned flexible trailing cable with Coburn track and trolley with fixtures for cross

travel motion. 3.1.7 All drive motors for normal operating speeds and creep speeds. 3.1.8 All interconnection wiring and cabling 3.1.9 Brakes as required for the various motions 3.1.10 End stops with fixing materials 3.1.11 Platforms and ladders as required for approaching the drive motors, gear boxes, etc., on

5.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

5.1 Scope 5.1.1 This specification covers the general requirement of design, performance and

construction of Electric Overhead Travelling Crane. 5.2 Codes and Standards 5.2.1 The crane in its entirety shall comply with all currently applicable statutes, regulations

and safety codes relating to the design, construction and operation of cranes in the locality where the crane will be installed. Nothing in the specification shall be construed to relieve the SUPPLIER of this responsibility. The cranes supplied shall comply with the latest applicable Indian and/or British Standards. Other National standards are acceptable if they are established to be equal or superior to the listed standards.

5.3 Design Requirement 5.3.1 The crane shall be electrically operated, bridge type and shall be designed and equipped

for indoor operation complete with all accessories, ready for erection and placing in service for the desired duty.

5.4 Design Requirement - Structural 5.4.1 The crane bridge shall consist of bridge girders each one carrying a rail on which a

wheeled trolley is to run. The bridge trucks and trolley frames shall be fabricated from structural steel. Access walkways with safe hand railing are required along the full span length on either side of the bridge girders.

5.4.2 Structural work in bridges and carriage and trolley frames and in the gantries shall be of

welded construction. Relevant standards shall be used for the adoption of appropriate quality of electrodes, submerged arc welding, pre-heating and heat treatment. All welds shall be radio-graphically tested and test certificate shall be submitted to the PURCHASER/CONSULTANT.

5.5 Materials and Workmanship 5.5.1 Steel supplied by the SUPPLIER shall be of tested quality conforming to IS:2062 or

ASTM A36 except that plates that have to be welded such as for plate girders etc., and those more than 20 mm thick shall conform to IS:2062 or BS:4360. Test certificates for the steel supplied by the SUPPLIER shall be furnished.

5.5.2 The bridge shall be designed to carry safely the loads specified in IS:807 or BS:2573.

5.6 Trucks and Trolley Frames 5.6.1 Bridge and trolley trucks shall be of cast steel or fabricated structural steel sections.

Wheel trucks of cast or welded construction shall be stress relieved as per accepted standards.

5.6.2 Mountings shall be designed to facilitate easy removal of the wheels, bearings and

journals for quick and easy maintenance. Wheel or wheel end carriage mountings shall be complete with safety pads to prevent accidental drop of more than 2.5 cm. Also jack pads shall be provided on the trolley and bridge wheel mounting structural frames for the removal of wheels.

5.6.3 Wheel base and structural frame of the wheel mounting of the end carriages shall be

designed so as to ensure that the crane remains square and prevents skewness. 5.6.4 Cast steel trucks or structural framework carrying mechanical and electrical driving

equipment shall be provided with stiffening plates, riveted or welded and machined for proper alignment of the drive equipment.

5.6.5 Spring buffers shall be provided on the trolley and bridge structural frames at suitable

places to absorb the shock of impact without transferring to the structural frame. 5.7 Walkways and Ladders 5.7.1 Walkways shall be atleast 500 mm clear inside width with a non-skid 6 mm thick non-

skid steel plate surface and 6 mm thick toe plates projecting 75 mm above the floor. Walkways shall be of rigid construction and designed to sustain a distributed load of not less than 300 kg/sq.m.

5.7.2 Handrails shall be of steel pipe of flush welded construction, ground smooth using 32

mm nominal bore light type pipe, provided with double rail, top rail about 1 metre from platform walkways level and posts spaced not more than 1.75 metres apart.

5.7.3 Ladders shall be at least 450 mm clear width with 20 mm rungs spaced 300 mm apart and

shall be equipped with safety cages when the ladder is more than 6.5 metre high. 5.7.4 Walkways and ladders shall be provided as follows: 5.7.4.1 Access walkway with hand railing on both sides of bridge girders for the full span length

for inspection and repairs for bridge drive and current collectors. 5.7.4.2 One ladder for access from the crane girder walkway to track girder walkways provided

by the SUPPLIER over each end carriage.

5.7.4.3 The walkways shall be provided in such a way that the sagging portion of the trailing cables does not rub with the platform to avoid damage to the cables on the crane. 5.8 Stops and Sweeps 5.8.1 Bridge and trolley stops shall be provided as follows: 5.8.1.1 Steel rail stops to prevent rails from creeping and trolley from running off the bridge shall

be abutted against ends of rails and welded to the girders. 5.8.1.2 Spring buffers on crane bridge girder and trolley shall be provided. Bridge and trolley

stops to match the wheel radius shall be provided before the buffer stops. 5.8.1.3 Rail sweeps shall be provided at the ends of the end carriages as well as for the bridge

drive ends. 5.9 Guards 5.9.1 All exposed couplings, shaft gears, wheels, pinions and chain drives, etc. shall be safely

encased and guarded completely to prevent any hazard to persons working around. 5.9.2 The sheaves of hook blocks fitted with two sheaves or more shall be guarded to prevent

trapping of hand between a sheave and the in-running rope. 5.10 Design Requirement - Mechanical 5.10.1 Brakes 5.10.1.1 Electro-hydraulic thrustor brakes shall be provided for main hoist, auxiliary hoist, cross

travel and long travel motions. 5.10.1.2 Brakes shall be provided on the high speed side of the gear reducer. It can also be

located on the input shaft/extension of input shaft of gear reducer. 5.10.1.3 The design holding torque for brakes shall be as indicated in data sheet. 5.10.1.4 All brakes shall have weatherproof enclosures, even door indoor cranes. 5.10.1.5 Coupling halves shall not be used as brake drums. 5.11 Wheels and Rails 5.11.1 Bridge and trolley track wheels shall be of forged steel and shall be double flanged with

cylindrical 'straight' tread and shall have hardness of the steel not less than 250 HB. Quality of steel used for the wheels shall not contain more than 0.060 percent of sulphur or phosphorus.

5.11.2 The wheel diameter and rail sizes shall be to meet the requirement of wheel loading

suitable for the duty class of the crane. 5.11.3 Bridge and trolley track wheel bearings shall be antifriction roller bearings with cartridge

'L' type mounting, unless otherwise specified. 5.12 Hooks 5.12.1 Hooks shall be solid forged heat treated alloy or carbon steel suitable for the duty service.

They shall have swivels and operate on ball or roller thrust bearings with hardened races. Locks to prevent hooks from swivelling shall be furnished. The lifting hooks shall comply with the requirement of BS:2903/BS:3017 or IS: 5749/IS:3815 and if required, shall have a safety latch to prevent rope coming off the hook.

5.13 Hoist Rope 5.13.1 Hoist ropes shall be extra flexible, improved plough steel rope with well lubricated hemp

core and having six strands of 36/37 wires per strand with an ultimate tensile strength of 160/180 kg/sq.mm of right hand ordinary (RHO) lay construction. The rope shall be fastened to the drum with an attachment having strength equal to that of the rope. The rope fastening at the swinging end shall be self-aligned and prevent rope coming off its reeving. Rope shall be of sufficient length so that two full laps shall remain on the drum at extreme low position of the hook. Reverse bends or cross bends and bird caging are to be avoided. The breaking loads for the main and auxiliary hoist ropes shall conform to mechanism class of the crane service and shall be as per IS:2266 or BS:302.

5.14 Drums 5.14.1 Rope drums shall be grooved and shall be either cast iron Gr.25 or above or cast steel of

class-1 or welded steel conforming to IS:3177 or BS:466. The ratio of diameters of drum to rope and lead angle of rope shall also be as per IS:3177 or BS:466.

5.15 Sheaves 5.15.1 Rope sheaves shall be of cast steel of class-1 or fabricated steel conforming to IS:3177 or

BS:466. Sheaves shall be equipped with antifriction type bearings. Sheaves shall be fully guarded so that the rope cannot come off.

5.15.2 Equalising sheave if provided shall have diameter as per IS:3177 or BS:466. 5.16 Gears 5.16.1 Gears shall be cut from solid cast or forged steel blanks or shall be of stress relieved

welded steel construction. Pinions shall be of forged carbon or heat treated alloy steel. Strength, quality of steel, heat treatment, face, pitch of teeth and design shall conform to

BS:436, BS:545 and BS:721. Split gears shall not be used. Gears and pinions shall be pressed on and keyed to shafts. All pinions and gears are to be totally enclosed type up to last stage of reduction in all motions and shall be carried in fabricated steel gear cases which must be dust proof and firmly sealed to prevent oil leakages and shall be oil bath lubricated. The gear boxes shall have covers split horizontally and arranged so that top half can be removed for inspection. They shall be fitted with bolted type machined inspection covers and with cast steel / fabricated cartridge housings for carrying roller bearings. Dip sticks or indicator shall be provided for indicating the oil level. Guards shall be strong enough to retain the whole gear or any part that might otherwise fall. No overhanging gears shall be used. Drain plugs shall be provided on all gear cases. Lifting lugs shall be provided for handling purposes.

5.17 Bearings 5.17.1 All antifriction bearings shall be of approved type or make which are interchangeable

with corresponding sizes of other make bearings. Bearings shall have a minimum life expectancy of 5000 hours and may be ball, roller, or removable bronze bushing type except that motor bearings shall be of the ball or roller type. Babbitted bearings shall be permitted for bridge and trolley drive shaft bearings only. Bearing housings shall be split or so designed as to permit easy removal of the shaft. Bearings shall be designed to exclude dirt and to prevent leakage of oil or grease. Drip pans shall be provided to accept accidental leakages and drippings.

5.18 Shafts and Couplings 5.18.1 Shafts and axles shall be of forged steel and shall have ample strength and rigidity and

adequate bearing surfaces. They shall wherever necessary be furnished straight. If shouldered, shall be provided with fillets of ample radius or be tapered to avoid loss of strength.

5.18.2 All couplings shall be of steel. 5.19 Keys, Key ways, Splines and Serrations 5.19.1 Keys and keyways shall be of acceptable standards. Splines and serrations shall be

involute or straight sided form. Straight sided splines and serrations shall comply to BS:2059. Allowance shall be made for keys and splines in proportioning the shaft.

5.20 Lubrication Crane lubrication shall be as outlined below: 5.20.1 Individual lubrication shall be provided for the trolley and the end carriages. 5.20.2 All other antifriction bearings for bridge and trolley track wheels, gear boxes and idle

sheave, bottom sheaves on boom shall be lubricated manually by hand operated grease

5.21 Capacity Plate 5.21.1 A capacity plate showing year of manufacture and rated capacity of each hoist shall be

placed on each side of the crane girder in such a manner as to be easily legible from the ground or floor.

5.22 Design Requirement - Electrical 5.22.1 All accessory and auxiliary electrical equipment including drive motors, electrically

operated brakes, controllers, resistors, conductors, insulators, current collectors, access platforms, protective devices, operating devices, cables, conduits, etc. necessary for the safe and satisfactory operation and maintenance of the crane shall be included in the SUPPLIER's scope of supply. Electrical equipment shall be adequately rated to permit simultaneous operation of any combination of motions of the crane for its duty service. PURCHASER shall arrange the supply from the system of 415 V +/-10%, 3 phase, 3 wire, 50 +/-5% Hz and 50 KA for 1 second.

5.23 Control Supply 5.23.1 All electrical equipment/systems shall be suitable for operation for supply systems as

described in specification. 5.24 Motors 5.24.1 All motors shall be squirrel cage type with AC variable frequency drives, suitable for

operation on a 415 V+/-10%, 3 phase, 50+/- 5% Hz, AC system. The motors shall be selected for min 150 starts in an hour, with a CDF of 40%.

5.24.2 If motors with synchronous speed above 1000 RPM are selected for any of the crane

duties, this shall be subject to the approval of PURCHASER/CONSULTANT. 5.24.3 Motors shall conform to 'crane duty' class (S4 duty), as per relevant standards and be

suitable for duty cycle and the control system of the crane, as stipulated in data sheet. 5.24.4 Motor winding insulation shall be Class 'F' with the temperature rise restricted to Class

'B'. 5.24.5 Motor couplings shall be flexible type. 5.24.6 Thrustor brake shall be operated by totally enclosed squirrel cage induction motors

suitable for operation on 415 V, 3 phase, 50 Hz AC system. 5.24.6 Motors controlled by VFD shall be provided with the following additional requirements:

sized to operate satisfactorily under lowest speed conditions and shall be provided with thermistors for windings.

c. The SUPPLIER shall submit detailed calculations for checking adequacy of the

motor selected under extreme speed conditions, furnishing the selection chart of the motor manufacturer for VFD application.

d. Motors shall be capable of even running with lower rated speed with temperature

rise not exceeding the specified value during the loaded condition. e. Motor shall be adequately sized for starting with bypass starter, in the event of

VFD failure. 5.25 Solenoids 5.25.1 Coils for solenoid operated brake shall be suitable for the specified operation. 5.25.2 All solenoids shall be provided with class-E or better insulation. 5.26 Controls 5.26.1 The crane motors and control circuit components for the long and cross travel motions of

the crane shall be suitable for reversing plugging control. Electrical brakes provided for long and cross travel motions shall operate when the power is off.

5.26.2 Speed control of various motors shall be achieved by adjusting the resistances in the rotor

circuit of the drive motors or adjusting the speed reference in the ACVF drives. Resistors / ACVF drives shall be suitable for speed control duty cycle and inching operation, as required.

5.27 Controllers 5.27.1 Controllers for crane motors shall comprise reversing type magnetic contactors. 5.27.2 Controllers shall have at least 5 uniformly proportioned steps of control, as applicable. 5.27.3 Independent controllers shall be provided to control each crane motion. Also each main

and creep drives shall have independent controllers. 5.27.4 Controller contact shall have ample current capacity for the duty cycle, and type and

number of auxiliary contacts for required electrical interlocks.

5.32.1 All Electrical panel should be provided with RAL 7032 gray painting. The panel sheet

thickness should be minimum 2.0 mm thickness. 5.33 The control panel shall essentially house the following: 5.33.1 A suitable sensing device for each drive motor for stopping the drive motor at zero speed

during plugging, as applicable for cabin operated cranes. 5.33.2 Contactors to control the thrustor brakes for cross travel and hoist motors. 5.33.3 Three pole reversing contactors mechanically interlocked for each main as well as creep

motion. 5.33.4 Magnetic reversing type contactor controllers as follows: 5.33.4.1 Three pole magnetic reversing contacts mechanically interlocked, accelerating

contactors and suitable timer relays for each controller. 5.33.4.2 Three pole contactors required for control of the lowering motion of hoisting.

5.34 Protection 5.34.1 Operation of the overload relays for any of the motors shall operate the main supply

contactor to cut off power supply to all the motors. 5.34.2 Under-voltage interlock shall be provided to operate the main supply contactor and open

the main contactor contacts and its holding contact. 5.34.3 'Start' push button of the main supply shall be wired in series with the 'off' position

contacts of all the controllers, thus requiring that all controller circuits are in 'off' position before the main supply contactor can be switched on.

5.35 Limit Switches Automatic reset type of limit switches shall be provided to prevent over travel for each of

the following motions: 5.35.1 For 'up' and 'down' motions of the main hook and the auxiliary hook. 5.35.2 Long travel motion. 5.35.3 Cross travel motion. 5.36 Safety Switches 5.36.1 Four non-fusible air break isolating switches of adequate rating (not less than 32 amps)

shall be fitted at the four corners of the crane so as to be accessible while standing on the crane platform. These shall be wired up in series with the emergency stop to open the main power contactors. As this requirement is applicable for the cabin operated cranes, for the pendant operated cranes suitable emergency stop button on the pendant shall be provided.

5.37 ACVF Drives and Controls 5.37.1 The drives shall be suitable for 50 Deg.C ambient and voltage / frequency variations of +

10% and + 5%. The drives shall be properly selected for the crane duty of the driven equipment. The ampere rating of the drive shall be higher than full load current of selected motor for the crane at ambient temperature. The manufacturer shall collect necessary details on the application and submit detailed selection basis to substantiate the selection. The manufacturer shall also submit their recommendation / special feature for the motors. The drives shall be of IGBT based with necessary filters / chokes to compensate for reflected wave phenomenon if required and shall be properly selected for the cable distance, to suit site requirement. The SUPPLIER shall furnish details / calculations for selection of the drives for the crane duty and its applications.

5.37.2 All the drives shall be individually provided with suitably sized double break

disconnecting switch / change-over switch, semi-conductor fuses and contactors / bi-metallic overload relays for bypass starters and fuse monitor relay. Wherever bypass arrangement is envisaged, the main drive module and bypass starter module shall be arranged in physically segregated compartmentalised sections. The panels shall house thermistor control relays, for processing the thermistor signals for the feeders wherever thermistors are envisaged for the motors.

It shall be possible to adjust the speed setting reference either from the control panel or

local mode. - Motor Underload - Drive Over temperature - Short Circuit - Single phasing prevention 5.38 Cables and Conduits 5.38.1 All wiring shall be furnished and shall be installed in rigid galvanized steel conduit with

threaded type fittings, galvanized outlet and pull boxes. Pull boxes shall be located at frequent intervals to allow cable or conductors to be pulled without abrasion or injury. Conduits shall form a continuous system and shall be rigidly supported and clamped within the structure of the crane. The entire conduit system shall be installed so that any moisture will be drained away from terminal boxes and electric devices. Power wiring and control wiring shall be kept in separate conduits. Flexible conduits shall be used, as required.

5.38.2 Wiring of all equipment and control devices located on the trolley bridge for the cabin

shall be completed in the shop and wires shall be terminated on terminal blocks housed in a junction box. Conductors, if of the open wire construction, shall be cut to length and insulators shall be attached and everything shall be assembled and packed for shipment. The cable and wires shall be 650V/1100V grade PVC insulated and PVC sheathed aluminium conductors for power wiring and with stranded copper conductors for control circuit wiring.

5.38.3 Wiring adjacent to resistors and control panel wiring shall be of stranded 650V grade;

flame, heat and moisture resistant insulation suitable for operation at high temperature. 5.38.4 Wires for motor primary and secondary circuits shall have adequate current carrying

capacities to carry maximum plugging current of the motors for the duty service of the crane and wire properly connected to withstand vibrations. No splices shall be made in any wiring on the panel or in conduit. All insulation and all clearances to ground shall be designed so that the live parts will withstand a high potential test of not less than 2500 V at 50 Hz for one minute.

5.38.5 Conductor areas for main power circuits shall be selected taking into consideration

simultaneous operation of the main hoist and bridge motors.

5.39 Safety Earthing 5.39.1 Crane structures, motor frames and metal cases of all electrical equipment including

metal conduit and cable guards shall be effectively earthed complying with relevant IS Standards and Electricity Rules.

5.39.2 All motors, brakes, limit switches, panels, drum controllers, resistor unit sets shall be

provided with two studs for earthing. 5.39.3 A separate long travel conductor rail shall be fitted on the runway gantry girder in the

same plant as the three main power rails to serve as the earth bus. The earth bus will be solidly bound to effective earthing stations at two independent points by the PURCHASER.

5.39.4 A separate collector shoe identical to the main power collector shoes shall be provided to

engage with the runway earth conductor rail. Duplicate earthing circuits shall be tapped and taken round the bridge platform and cabin from this earth collector shoe.

5.39.5 An additional earth collector shall be provided to engage with the cross travel earthing

rail located below all other rails. 5.39.6 All electrical equipment on the bridge and cabin shall be solidly bonded to the bridge

earth circuit. Similarly all electrical equipment in the trolley shall be solidly bonded to the earthing circuit tapped from the cross travel earth collector.

5.39.7 The SUPPLIER shall ensure the adequacy of conductivity of collector gear components

and bonding. 5.40 Control Schematic & Wiring Diagrams Copies of 'as-built' control connection diagrams shall be furnished and one set of these

shall be fitted inside the control cabinet for ready reference of the operating staff. Detailed explanatory functional write-ups control schemes shall also be furnished.

5.41 Painting 5.41.1 All surfaces exposed to atmosphere / to be painted must be degreased and shall be

thoroughly cleaned by wire brush and given one coat of red oxide zinc chromate primer (as per IS 2074) and one coat of epoxy based zinc phosphate primer. The dry film thickness of each primer coat shall be minimum 25 microns.

5.41.2 The surface shall be fully dried and given two coats of anti corrosive synthetic enamel

based finish paint (as per IS 2932, Color – as approved by the PURCHASER/CONSULTANT).
