    many services that help them, their children and grandchildren enjoy a better quality of life.

    If we had to cap rates, it would be highly likely that Council would be forced to stop some of these important services that our residents depend on and abandon future projects earmarked in the capital works program, such as traf c congestion measures along Caroline Springs Boulevard, the potential for an Aquatic Centre or the potential to duplicate Hume Drive.

    So, while at rst glance this policy may seem appealing to ratepayers, it would have long-term negative impacts for our community. My priority as a Councillor isnt for short-term gain but for a sustainable and liveable community long into the future.

    When you think about your day-to-day life, have you stopped to think about all the things that are provided by Council?     In fact, Melton City Council provides over 120 services and many Council buildings for its residents that make our community a better place to live.

    Earlier this year, Victorian Opposition Leader, Daniel Andrews, expressed the idea of capping rates for all Councils in Victoria if his party was elected at the November State election. A similar policy in NSW has had very negative impacts on councils but more importantly the residents. This Council does not want to see this happen here.

    Melton Primary School pupils are skipping their way to a healthier future and raising funds for an important cause. This years Jump Rope for Heart program was launched at the school last Friday, and it continues until September 12. Pupils will take part in physical activity sessions two lunchtimes a week. Co-ordinator Danny Roberts says the program will promote health and fitness at the school. We know physical health has many benefits for students and adults, including building muscle and strength, building confidence and leadership skills, and helping students learn and stay focused. It also helps them reduce risk of developing health complications in future. Money raised will go towards the Heart Foundation to help in the fight against heart disease and strokes.

    Husband and wife Charlie and Efi OShea opened the new laundrette last month.

    Accme has jumbo doona washers, dryers, a soap dispenser and change machine.

    The laundrette is painted bright green and is well lit, providing a welcoming feel.

    The laundrette is aimed at people with busy lifestyles who need to have their washing and drying done at a time that suits them, thats why its open 24 hours, Charlie says.

    Visitors to the laundrette will always feel safe day or night, with armed patrol guards surveilling the premises and TV security monitors.

    Customers wont be bored while waiting for a load to finish, with a games machine and TV available to keep everyone entertained.

    A coffee or hot chocolate from the coffee machine can take the chill off cold hands. The laundrette also has an ATM.
