KEYNOTE PRESENTATION

Brent Charlie Ultra Late Life; Managing for Optimum Decommissioning

This presentation discusses the benefits of early plug and lubricate (P&L) of shut-in wells for Brent Charlie as part of our journey into Ultra late life. The team quickly realised there were many activities that could be streamlined or removed from the work scope with the driver changing from ensuring a well is fit for production; to ensuring a well is fit for decommissioning. Work focused around looking at applying a fit for purpose approach i.e. surface integrity test (SIT) requirements, to manage risk around long term shut in wells in preparation for plug and abandonment (P&A) with the rig. P&L work ahead of work with the rig not only removed integrity risks around long term shut in wells but it also provided an opportunity to maximise tail end production. Balancing the use of the wireline crew between P&L and production optimisation has resulted in production gains that have effectively paid for the P&L work.Danial Leybourne, Senior Production Technologist/Brent Decommissioning, SHELL

AGENDA WORKSHOPPreparing for Cessation of Production Masterclass

This unique workshop will help Oil & Gas companies prepare for Cessation of Production by learning from Lalit Bhamare’s experience of positioning a North Sea E&P company for COP:

• Review the regulatory hurdles surrounding the announcement of COP and how you can prepare effectively through good communication with the regulator and solid planning

• Address the challenges around a company’s economic viability to begin decommissioning and how this needs to be proved as part of the COP application process

• Ensure that you focus on achieving maximum economic recovery from your assets before turning the taps off

Lalit Bhamare is currently working on the Dunlin Decommissioning Project but previously worked for the production enhancement team to identify opportunities to boost production. He started work with the decommissioning team for COP and approvals and gained cross discipline experience from both production and subsurface which helped him contribute to the COP process and further to the decommissioning project.

Lalit graduated from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen with an MSc in Petroleum Production Engineering. He completed his Master’s thesis with Fairfield Energy on the feasibility of alternate optimization plans for mature fields in the Northern North Sea.
