Treetops Times January 2015 It will be alright in the end. If it’s not alright, it’s not yet the end.Talking Head Mr Smith Welcome to our new look Treetops Times. It had been in its former format since February 2003 so I think it’s fair to say it was due a “makeover”. This is part of our endeavour to improve in all areas of communication. By the time you read this, our new website should have been launched. As you will hopefully see it has been designed to facilitate easy access to all the information you may require. If it doesn’t, please let us know and we will do our best to amend it accordingly. As many of our families, friends, governors and other stakeholders will know, at out last OFSTED inspection in November 2014, we were judged to be outstanding in every area. We want to improve on this. We realise that communication is an area where we can improve. The launch of the new website and the “makeover “ for Treetops Times are steps one and two in a range of strategies we wish to put in place to help move the school forward. I know we do not have the monopoly on good ideas. If you have suggestions on how we can improve further, please let me know. Sports Hall Let Down As most friends and parents will know, we were really hopeful that the school would very soon be getting its long awaited Sports Hall, something that was originally planned and promised back in 2006! We were due to benefit from what is called Section 106 funding as a result of Thurrock Council giving planning permission for a new housing project to be developed on the old Aveley Fire Brigade Sports Ground. Unfortunately for us, this local decision was challenged by our local MP, Jackie Doyle-Price and has subsequently been reversed by the Secretary of State. In the interest of fairness, I have to say that Jackie Doyle-Price is totally in support of the school getting its much deserved Sports Hall and has pledged to work with us to achieve this goal. We have a few ideas of how we can try to move forward but anyone out there with ideas (or money), please do not hesitate to contact us. Mr Smith Appeal for clothing If anyone has items of clothing that your children will have outgrown, or thinking of getting rid of, that we can use for costumes for the School’s Production of “We Will Rock You” this summer. We need Denim shirts, jackets, jeans, waistcoats, shorts or skirts. leatherlook jackets, coats, waistcoats. Plain T Shirts (any colour, but no patterns or logos). Items should be sent in with pupils to Miss Bennett or Mrs The children at Treetops School have been awarded £171.00 for taking part in Beat the Street walking game in the Summer term. The children have decided to spend the money on playground toys and games.

“It will be alright in the end. If it’s not alright, it’s not yet the end.”

Talking Head

Mr Smith

Welcome to our new look Treetops Times.

Sports Hall Let Down

As most friends and parents will know, we were really hopeful that the school would very soon be getting its long awaited Sports Hall, something that was originally planned and promised back in 2006!

A story by Aimee Barker-Hughes 8Vm

Apps

Once upon a time there lived a beautiful princess named Lily. She lived in a beautiful pink palace where everything inside was pink. But, best of all, she loved to ride on her horse named peach.

Her mum and dad the king and Queen, thought about their daughter. “Princess Lily you are a princess not a horse rider”, said her father. “Dear, we are worried about you”, said her mother.

“But why?” said Lily. “Because all the time you are late for doing princess things”, said her mum.

“Tomorrow we are going to sell peach to a horse breaker”, said her father. “No father! Peach is my friend!” sobbed princess Lily”. “Not anymore!” said the king in a gruff voice. “I wish I was never a princess” she said running away crying.

“Oh dear what have you done”? Said the Queen. “I’m doing what is right” said the king. “But our daughter will runaway”, said the Queen in a low voice.

The Queen was right, Princess Lily was running away into the forbidden forest! “We can never go back”, said Princess Lily to peach.

In the forbidden forest they did not know about the cave that had something in it with red eyes. In the forbidden forest princess Lily and Peach kept on and on further into the scary wood.

We can't deny that apps can be highly engaging for our children. They can also be a great opportunity to learn. Why not try downloading 'My Playhome'. This digital dolls house is an interactive family home which you can also use to develop a range of areas. Develop attention and listening skills by encouraging your child to listen to the sounds or follow your instructions. You can introduce vocabulary by exploring items, actions and people, or develop expressive language by encouraging your child to give you the instructions. Books, whether on a tablet/iPad or in paper form, are also a great way of developing language and having fun.
