HarmoniaIn Italia: A Renaissance ChristmasThursday, December 24 at 9pm

In the 16th century, the splendor of the Renaissance blossomed across Italy as a new Holy Roman Empire stretched its wings from the Urals to the Atlantic. This holiday edition of Harmonia brings you music from the Venetian world of Giovanni Bassano and Gioseffo Zarlino, then moves westward to the Milan of Franchinus Gaffurius, and south to the Naples of Diego Ortiz. Music of the Nordic Venetian Michael Praetorius provides a glorious grand finale. The concert is directed by Dr. Dana Marsh and Wendy Gillespie of the Historical Performance Institute of the IU Jacobs School of Music, with some of America’s most outstanding young voices and players.

Best of the Arts Desk 2015Sunday, December 27 at 6pm

On this special program, WFIU Arts Desk reporters retrace their footsteps across Indiana to bring you the year’s highlights. They visit a farmhouse in Brown County where the Indiana Museum of Modern Art once hung its shingle. They learn why it took more than half a century for a seven-time base-ball All-Star to get a gravestone. And they ring in the New Year with a story about the discovery of a valuable set of long-forgotten handbells in a Columbus church basement. Throughout the hour, reporters stop to reflect on their subjects and share how the stories came together. Yaël Ksander hosts.

Rejoin the Crawley family for its final season of intimately interlaced stories centered on the English country estate.

Season 6 opens in 1925 with a series of crises reflecting the momentous changes that are transforming society. Women’s rights have given Lady Mary and Lady Edith new positions of responsibility: Mary runs the estate, and Edith manages the magazine she inherited from Michael Gregson. Meanwhile, Tom Branson has left for Boston, and newlyweds Lady Rose and Atticus Aldridge are trying their luck in Jazz Age New York. Anna Bates faces a murder charge, though many still suspect her husband. And for the rest of the servants, big doubts hang over their jobs. Will great houses and the fortunes that support them soon be gone?
