Introduction Daniel Sheflin previously worked at Honeywell

International, where he served as chief technology officer oversaw a 5,000-member product development team. Now retired, Daniel Sheflin is a bicycling hobbyist.

Here’s a look at three of the most common bicycling myths.

Bicycling is not more dangerous that other alternative transportation methods. Some may assert otherwise, however. While bicycling injuries tend to be more serious, walking and motorcycling both present a greater statistical chance of being in an accident.

Bicycling Myths While it’s true that helmets do protect cyclists

when they are involved in accidents, they don’t actually prevent those accidents from happening in the first place. Cities with dedicated bike lanes, report greater safety numbers for cyclists, and many of those cities do not have helmet laws.

Getting started doesn’t require an expensive, top-end bicycle. In fact, many cyclists begin with run-of-the mill bicycles purchased from big box retailers or yard sales. Breaking into bicycling doesn’t have to break the bank.
