We are studying the Biblical principles for God
to supply our needs in this life.
This is not a quick fix.
Way of life
Over time God will
supply all of our
needs, as we live life
His Way.

We are going to talk about the real cost of debt.
It is more than almost anyone recognizes,
because it is a sneaking cost.

Car - $6,000 @ 10% for 5 yrs;
Mon pay = $127.48
$7,648.8 total

Interest adds up to be
a very hungry fox.
High interest rates.

Did you know that debt is one of the curses that
God placed on His people for disobedience.
After looking at these numbers you can see why.
Deut 28:43-45 The alien who lives among you will
rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink
lower and lower. He will lend to you, but you will
not lend to him. He will be the head, but you will
be the tail. All these curses will come upon you.

We have become conformed to this world, instead
of being transformed by the renewing of our mind,
And proving the good and acceptable and perfect
Will of God.
Many are under the curse of
debt, and it is eating up a large
portion of God's provision for
our needs.
Financial problems are long
term problems that won’t
have short term solutions.
8
On the other hand, ability to lend is a blessing
from the Lord.
Deut 28:12 The Lord shall open unto thee His good
treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in
his season, and to bless all the work of thy hand: and
thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not
borrow. Blessing for willing obedience

Deut 15:5-6 Only if thou carefully hearken unto
the Voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all
these Commandments which I command thee this
day. For the Lord thy God blesseth thee, as He
promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many
nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt
reign over many nations, but they shall not reign
over thee.
Do all.
10
So, in the sight of God, debt is a curse and the
ability to lend is a blessing.
Many Christians are choosing to live under the
curse of debt.
God wants His people to have all their needs met
and have some money left that will work for them;
Instead of their having to work like slaves for
all of their money.
11
Prov 22:7 The rich ruleth over
the poor, and the borrower is
servant to the lender.
I Cor 6:12 All things are lawful for me, but all
things are not expedient (profitable; advantageous): all
things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought
under the power of any.
12
But sometimes God has provided the means
and we are spending it on interest.
God only expects us to give or do that for
which He has provided the means.
13
Psalms 37:21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth
not again: but the righteous showeth mercy and
giveth.
This is the ultimate danger of the habit of debt.
It is so easy to get over-extended and actually be
unable to pay as we promised.
14
Our creditors don’t know or care about
our circumstances.
They just know we didn’t pay.
Proverbs 11:15 He that is surety for a stranger
shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is
sure.
Proverbs 17:18 A man void of understanding
striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence
of his friend.
Surety = security
15
The worst form of debt is surety.
Surety means to give or be security for a debt; or
to make a pledge for that debt.
In other words, There is not sufficient collateral to
pay if you can’t.
Almost all debt today involves surety.
Most mortgages give the lender the right to sell the
house if you do not pay as promised;
And if it does not bring what you owe,
you still owe the balance.
16
Proverbs 22:26-27 NIV Do
not be a man who strikes
hands in pledge or puts up
security for debts; if you
lack the means to pay, your
very bed will be snatched
from under you.
Very little or nothing
down. Four, five, or
more years to pay.
That car is never worth as much as you owe on it.
The difference is surety.
17
Prov 11:15 NIV He who puts up security for
another will surely suffer, but whosoever refuses
to strike hands in pledge is safe.
Don’t co-sign for someone else.
Surety is not the only part of debt that is unwise;
It is just the worst part of debt.
Debt is so easy to get into; so hard to get out of;
And has so many harmful consequences.
It has ended many friendships when the
borrower couldn’t pay.
18
Wouldn’t you agree that the course of wisdom is to
kill the foxes that get us into debt.
Wasteful habits, Envy, Lack of
Planning, Impatience, Lust
These little foxes will get you into debt and have
you in bondage all your life.
Kill them with your sword.
