Dear Oak Class, Here we are on Thursday! Your LAST Thursday of Year 1! Mad :O – Love Mr N x Thursday 16 th July 2020 Handwriting Colouring Do some colouring this morning. Practice counting in your 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Can you make them physical? Do a dance move every time you move? (Just like the penguins do in our music lessons) Flashback 4 Day 4 is below. Can you get all four? Starter Before you move on to looking at capacity – I’d like you to have a go at comparing mass, there is a challenge that asks you to identify the heaviest item, but all of the scales look the same… How might you solve this? Clue – it’s all about the cubes! Count them to reveal the answer. Capacity Ask your child what the words below mean. Full, empty, almost full, almost empty. What could they recall? What do they know? Practical task: Give your child 4 different cups/containers, anything you’ve got available that can store water. This might be easier outside! Can your child fill them so one of them is full, another is empty, another is almost full and another is almost empty? It would be interesting to know the order in which they do this, whether they started with the fullest down to the emptiest or the opposite way round. Have a look at this question together… Can you order the cups in the correct places?

Dear Oak Class,

Here we are on Thursday! Your LAST Thursday of Year 1! Mad :O – Love Mr N x

Thursday 16th July 2020

Handwriting Colouring

Do some colouring this morning. I thought I’d put a number 2 for you.

Capacity –

practical lesson

Magic 5 is below. Our ‘Number of the Day’ is 18 today. Have a look at this question together…

Can you order the cups in the correct places?

Always, Sometimes or Never. Look at the following two statements below. What does your child think using one of the following words?

A: Sometimes, Never Practical: For this lesson, you’re going to need to find (if possible) some different containers (ideally not too big or this will be a very long task). This could be anything from a large glass, to a jug, to a lunchbox, etc. Using a different object (plastic cup or an empty playdoh pot or even a spoon if you’re feeling mean) How many of them will fill up one of the containers? Do this practically by using water and counting aloud. How many would then fill two? (Encourage to use doubling skills) Repeat with each different container. You can always have a go at changing the object you’re using to fill the container with to see if the results change at all too.

Real and Alien words

It’s been a little while, but today I have put some different phonics words at the bottom of your work. Can you remember to apply the correct strategies at sounding out the different words? Keep practising the skill.

Dough Disco

Around now we would normally do some dough disco! Why don’t you teach mum or dad how to do it? Choose whichever funky song you like! These are some of our moves.

Sphere Sausage Tiger Milk-shake Squeeze from hand to hand Round the world Through the legs Squash – up, down, behind the head Flat pancake – ABC Flower Hedgehog Granny shark Make a rose

English Correct the

Story writing

Below is your sentence of the day. What do you think is wrong with this one? If you used yesterday to finish writing your boxes for your plan, then TODAY is the day of writing. This is the LAST one of Year 1 (That’s big, anyway) so let’s try and make this as amazing as you possibly can, but let’s also see just what YOU can do as this is what I will be seeing when you come back in September. As I mentioned yesterday, the best and easiest way to get through this is by chunking. Write a couple of boxes per day. Box 3 – which is normally the ‘oh no, what am I going to do?’ box should be the biggest piece of writing as that’s normally where all the action goes so gradually add more detail. See below my writing and take on what my plan is to give your brain some thought if you would like to. If not, carry on and impress me with your skills! I can’t wait to see them.

Reading

Rising Stars again, a couple of pages will be great, or your own book at home Remember, if you’ve finished your collection – just let me know and I’ll send the next challenge.

Science Weather

report

This is ‘technically’ your last Science lesson of Oak Class. As we are getting closer and closer to the summer holidays, it will be a really good chance to rest, unwind and prepare yourself for the journey of Year 2. Usually (I say usually) in the summer break we are lucky to have some nice weather and sunshine. Now, I know ALL of you are just brilliant at doing

what you need to do to keep yourselves safe in the sun… but, there are also some people in the world who aren’t quite as good as you and need some reminding! This afternoon, I would like you to create a poster for how to keep safe in the sun! Starter: Discuss with someone near you what you might need to have when you are in the sun. This can be anything from…

Clothes Accessories Hydration Skincare, etc.

Once you’ve come up with a few – create your own poster. The title can be whatever you would like it to be. The poster can look however you would like it to look! The key thing is to include what keeps you safe in the sun. Can you help teach anyone these rules before we go out on our summer break?
