April is an important month in the Social

Justice arena. On the 6th we remembered

the incredible accomplishments of Martin

Luther King, Jr. as we also mourned his

death.

April 12 is Holocaust Remembrance Day and

it seems incredible that a large percentage

of Millennial and the younger folks have no

idea about the concentration camps that

stole so many lives during WWII.

15th-Mother Nature=Human Nature

Are we, as Unitarian Universalists, on a shared

path to harmony?

As a perfect overture to Earth Day celebrations

in our neighborhood, let's take a closer look at

the nature of our relationship with beauty, the

Feminine, and Mother Earth through insight

and song. We do this by honoring the

interdependent web connecting us to one

another and the Earth in very workable ways.

Director of Livespan Religious Education,

Kathy Kinkaid, will be in the pulpit.

22nd – Life Liberty and the Pursuit of

Happiness

Are we pursuing the right things? What

truly makes us happy? Are we searching

for happiness in the wrong direction?

Tracy Tanwar returns to the pulpit

29th - Attitude of Gratitude

“The idea for this service has been

brewing in my mind for quite a while. It is

a synthesis of my life experience, books

I’ve read (specifically The Secret, by

Rhonda Byrne, the Seth Speaks series by

Jane Roberts, and various texts I had to

read for my favorite college class, Physics

and Buddhism) and simple observation of

the world.”

Rev. Larry Brumfield will present the

service.

Indivisible Oak Cliff meets monthly

at UUCOC From the website:

Indivisible Oak Cliff is a nonpartisan group, based in Oak

Cliff, Texas. We started in January 2017, after the

Inauguration, the Women’s March, and the release of the

Indivisible Guide.

Our mission is supporting the values of inclusiveness,

the freedoms codified in the Constitution, respect for

human rights and dignity, and the peace and well-being

of future generations; and opposing government actions

and officials who disregard these values.

We founded the group with passion but limited

knowledge, so it took some months to get our footing, but

following the interests of our members, we are now

focused on voter registration and education. (More at

IndivisibleOakCliff.org)

NOTE: Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a

resident of OakCliff to attend.

There were 28 Kids in attendance who engaged in the discussion during Kid Church, ran an egg-stuffing production line with little to no hitches, waited patiently, made new friends and seemed to really have a great time. This was one of my most FAVORITE Sundays!

About Our Members

First Tuesday Film Festival

Co-sponsored by the Dallas Peace & Justice

Center

Every month, at 7:00pm on the first Tuesday, The

Unitarian Universalist Church of Oak Cliff screens a film

focusing on an important social justice issue. We

promise you'll come away inspired and ready to hit the

road in your own quest for a better world.

The best way to make a difference in the world is to

first learn how others have done so. Is there a film

you'd love to see to inspire you? Perhaps you have that

one movie that just recharges you before a social

justice battle. If so, please share with us and we'll see

about putting it on our list of films to show at the

UUCOC First Tuesday Social Justice Film Festival.

Various Church Stuff

Editorial Continued

If we are to teach our children to

become aware of social justice

issues, we must make them aware

of the historical events that created

a need for it.

We want our children to grow up to

be good people, to care for others

and serve the greater community;

but, do we tell them why? Do we

provide the base upon which to

build a better life? For, if we fail to

teach them about the past, surely

they are doomed to repeat the

same mistakes in the future.

Teach the children well. Give them

to tools to move forward with the

determination that what lies behind

is not necessarily what lies ahead.

DID YOU KNOW?

Putting a coffee filter inside

a cast iron skillet when it’s

not in use will help prevent

rusting.

Put a tablespoon of baking

soda inside a coffee filter,

tie it with twine and it will

keep your refrigerator odor

free!

Use a doubled up coffee

filter to clean your windows

and there’ll be no lint.

Use a coffee filter to hold

your nuts, bolts and screws

project.

From PBS:

Political empowerment for Latinos in the United States has

always faced adverse circumstances. From poll taxes and

gerrymandering to outright intimidation, Latinos have been

kept from the ballot box in both local and national elections

throughout history. A Mexican-American butcher’s son from

San Antonio, Texas, Willie Velasquez questioned the lack of

Latino representation in his city’s government, propelling him

into a lifelong battle to gain political equality for Latinos.
