INTRODUCTION

Greater Shepparton is a vibrant, diverse community less than two hours north of Melbourne in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, the food bowl of Australia.

As a growing regional centre with a vibrant cultural mix of people, our community comprises 65,593 residents living within 60+ localities. However Shepparton does service a much larger population of approximately 250,000 people as it is the main service centre in north east Victoria.

Greater Shepparton is recognised as Australia’s regional sporting capital, with facilities that attract a broad range of national and international sporting events, including basketball, BMX, soccer, netball and even beach volley ball.

As a sporting mecca, the likes of Shepparton Sports City, Aquamoves and Deakin Reserve are shining examples of why Greater Shepparton has claimed the title of regional Australia’s sporting capital.

DEAKIN RESERVE

Deakin Reserve is Greater Shepparton’s premier sportsground facility centrally located on the corner of Harold, Skene and Nixon Streets in Shepparton catering primarily for Australian Rules Football, cricket, netball and a number of major community festivals and events.

Deakin Reserve land was reserved by then government as a recreation reserve in 1877, and then named in 1949 in honour of Alfred Deakin.

The Reserve has an estimated spectator capacity of 10,000 people.

The Reserve is used most weekends of the year on Saturdays for Goulburn Valley League(GVL) Football, A Grade cricket, junior football and Auskick which will provide huge exposure to the prospective sponsor.

Tenant clubs Shepparton United FC & Shepparton Bears FC often host other GVL clubs from towns such as Mansfield, Euroa, Echuca, Benalla, Rochester, Seymour and Kyabram which will also provide ongoing publicity to a wide catchment.

Deakin Reserve has an Advisory Committee (previously a Committee of Management) which is made up of community members and 2 Councillors. The Advisory Committee plays a key role supporting Council to plan, develop and promote the Reserve.

Greater Shepparton City Council (GSCC) provides direct management and operations of Deakin Reserve, including maintenance, development, bookings and promotion.

Achievements over the past 20 years reflect the successful collaborative approach between the Council, the Advisory Committee and user groups.The primary users of Deakin Reserve are:

• Shepparton Football Netball Club

• Shepparton United Football Netball Club

• Shepparton Cricket Association

• Central Park/St Brendan’s Cricket Club

• Girl Guides Association of Victoria

Other Major Users of the Reserve include:

• Goulburn Valley Football League

• Victorian Country Football League

• Shepparton Junior Cricket Association

• Shepparton Junior Football Association

• Notre Dame Secondary College.

More recently Deakin Reserve hosted AFL clubs, Richmond and Melbourne, as part of the 2019 JLT Community Pre-season Series.

FACILITY USE

Deakin has a heavy schedule of usage concentrated around the Australian Rules Football and Netball season from March to October each year, and cricket from October to April.

Each year Deakin plays hosts to the Preliminary and Grand Final days for the Goulburn Valley Football League which showcases the venue as Shepparton’s premier Australian Rules Football facility. The Reserve also supports sports training, regional levels of football, large cricket events and cricket grand finals. The playing arena caters for more games of football and cricket than any other venue in the Goulburn Valley.

Deakin is now a regular venue for AFL pre-season matches having hosted five past matches over recent years.

The Deakin Reserve Future Directions Plan and Landscape Master Plan which are now adopted by Council, outline the infrastructure improvements that should be prioritised in planning for the future of the Reserve with the upgrade and renewal of the Digital Scoreboard being one of those priorities.

PROPOSAL

GSCC in conjunction with the Deakin Reserve Advisory Committee and users are pleased to invite your Expression of Interest for naming rights to a new larger digital scoreboard with the intention for video capability included.

GSCC, the Committee and the user groups all have a vision to increase the size and quality to a larger scoreboard that is commensurate to a five Star facility, and also to accommodate the calibre of major events held at the Reserve.

FULL NAMING RIGHTS PACKAGE

Full Naming Rights OpportunityTwo permanent signs above and below digital scoreboard with sponsor branding for the period of sponsorship agreement to be negotiated but limited to a maximum of 10 years.

Full digital screen display advertisement included in each use of the digital scoreboard, permanently set for the period of the sponsorship to be negotiated but limited to a maximum of 10 years.

These ads can be updated as required by the sponsor to support any specific campaigns and/or messaging.
