LibraryThis term we will be reading the books nominated forthe Children’s Book Council Awards in the EarlyChildhood category. Our book today is called ‘No!Never!’ by Libby Hathorn and Lisa Hathorn-Jarman.Look at the cover of the book and discuss with agrown-up what you notice and what you think the storymight be about.

Under the title it says ‘A Cautionary Tale’. If someonecautions you, it means they warn or tell you to be careful. Discuss with a grown-upwho you think might need to be careful in the story and why.

Choose an imaginative book you have at home and read it aloud for 20 minutes, toa parent, sibling, pet or toy. Make sure you read with a clear voice, at a pace that isnot too fast, and with expression.

Write down five words that you don’t know the meaning of or that you think arevery interesting. Use a dictionary, google or ask someone to find out the meaningof the words. Write down the words and their meanings in your booklet.

Draw a picture of a character in your book. Write 3 sentences to describe yourcharacter. This could be about how your character looks, feels or acts.

WritingCreate your own word wall by brainstorming words you can include in anadvertisement to engage the audience. For example:Fun, Smart, Number 1, Exclusive. (Worksheet is inyour booklet)(A word wall is a list of words that can displayedaround your room)Watch the advertisement about ‘Coco Pops’.

Use the ‘Advertising Analysis Template’ to analyse the ad. Remember the purposeof an advertisement. Did it convince you to buy the product?

Middle 11:30-11:55 Zoom session with your classBring a piece of paper and pencil/pen. You will be doing a spelling test and this iswhere you will find out your spelling words that will be needed in the next activity.

SpellingThis week our spelling sound is “ar” like a pirate says! Say the sound out loud tentimes. There are two main ways we spell this sound:- ar (like in star)- a (like in glass)There are other ways to spell this sound too:- ear (like in heart)- al (like in half)

- au (like in laugh)- er (like in sergeant)

1. Use a book that you have at home and find words with the “ar” SOUND. Say theword out loud to make sure you can hear the “ar” sound. Then write the wordsdown in the stars in your booklet, grouping them with other words with the samespelling pattern.

2. Write each word from your spelling list in its own sentence in your booklet.

This term we are starting a new subject calledGeography. This is where we study the worldaround us. Today we are looking at naturalfeatures.

● What is a natural feature? Think aboutthings that are present in nature and arenot made by humans.

Look out your window, or if possible, go outside.Use the ‘Natural Features mind map’ page of your booklet and write down anythingyou saw outside that you think is a natural feature.Changes I can see:

1. Use the worksheet in your booklet. Look at the pictures in the table.2. Decide whether they are natural, managed or constructed.3. Predict whether they would change on their own in one week.
