Hello Kenny Families, It is hard to believe that tomorrow is March 1. The days are getting longer and warmer. That also means the Foundation March Magic event is only a couple of weeks away. I can’t wait and I hope to see you there! Kenny received our budget allocation on Friday. There was a significant mistake on our Special Education allocation, so I shared the budget with the staff on Monday once the mistake was fixed. We will have to make some cuts to tie out our budget. When pushing all of our current programming forward, we are short $120K. At the end of today’s newsletter, you will see a spreadsheet that shows our current programming pushed forward with the 2018-19 salary costs. You will also find two other documents; one showing the updated budget allocation and the other showing enrollment estimates for Fall. One of the biggest issues is that we were funded for 2.4 fourth grade teachers and 2.7 fifth grade teachers. With Specialist time, that means we would need to fund a 1.0 teaching position. At the Site Council meeting next Tues-day, I will present several scenarios to tie out the budget. Babies, babies, babies! As we move into planning for next year, I have other exciting news. Colleen Schinneer, who is pregnant is going to take a one year leave of absence next year to be at home with her children. Christine Broder is going to do a job share with Annie Sparks. Annie is currently at Pratt School teaching first grade. It will be great to have her energy and enthusiasm at Kenny School! I hope the children in that classroom will be able to keep up. Laurie Hanzal is also retiring at the end of the year after 35 years of service in Minneapolis Public Schools, the last 28 years at Kenny. It is going to be a great spring. The PTO has many great upcoming activities. The PTO needs a number of coordinators for events. Please consider taking on one of those positions. So many of our events at Kenny happen because of volunteers, and we do not want to lose any of them. As always, thanks for helping make Kenny the amazing community school it is. Bill Gibbs, Principal

Kenny School Read-A-Thon
Weeks 1, 2, and 3 Tally: 282,176 total minutes read
Important Updates!
WEDNESDAY is the last day to read!
Congratulations to all the students for their hard work! Did they meet the school wide goal of
one million minutes? Did we meet our fundraiser goal of $5,000 to furnish all classrooms with
magnetic whiteboards? It is time to get down to the business of finding out!
Every student must take these steps between now and March 2:
• Turn in your Weekly Reading Logs. Even if you missed a week or two turn them in to have your
minutes count toward the school goal and for extra chances to win prizes!
• Using the envelope provided in the Read-a-Thon packet, return your child’s sponsorship
form, along with any money collected. Checks should be made out to Kenny Foundation.
Turn this into the student's classroom teacher by Friday, March 2. You may also choose to
submit payment using the Kenny Foundation’s PayPal account at kennyreads.com.
READ….READ...READ!
March Magic is right around the corner!
Don’t forget to send your March Magic RSVP back to school with your kiddo or buy tickets online through our website: www.kennymarchmagic.org (There is a
small administrative fee for online purchases).
**The price for tickets goes up this week on March 1st!**
As we finalize our Great Gatherings and raffle information, we will put all of the
updates on the Kenny March Magic website. Check often to plan what parties
you will sign up for and for more information on all of our raffle offerings!
Hope you can join us!
Register your child with the 2018,
10u-11u Millers traveling baseball
program.
They will learn the game of baseball,
develop good sportsmanship and ap-
preciate the importance of teamwork
all while making memories to last a
lifetime!

A Note From the PTO… Hello Kenny families! There are still plenty of ways to get involved at Kenny School! Take a
look at the list below to see where you can lend a hand.
Reach out to Dylan Thompson with questions or if interested:
STUDENT DROP OFF: Please be courteous of other drivers and use caution when pulling away from the curb! Children will be admitted to the building at 7:50am. The staff is respectfully requesting students be dropped off at the front door in the morning.
• Teachers need to be able to greet and assist chil-dren.
• Children have morning work assignments that need to be completed before the morning meeting that starts at 8:10am.
Thank you for your help with this as it allows us to give your children our undivided attention for greetings and assistance with morning work and routines.
All adults entering the building must sign in at the office.
TRANSPORTATION: Send Information to School when: 1. You have an address or daycare change. 2. If you are picking up your child and they usually ride a bus, they must be signed out in the office even with advanced notice. 3. Your student is using a different bus stop. 4. Your student is going home with another student. (Note: We need notification from BOTH families). Information will be sent home when: 1. Your student has been added to a bus route. 2. The bus stop for your student has had a change in
location. 3. The IN bus stop for your student has had a cumulative
time change of five minutes or more.
Changes can become effective any day of the week so
watch for the effective dates on the notices sent home
with your student.
From the Office
ATTENDANCE:
Call the Attendance line (612-668-3346) when your student will be absent.
Doctors or dentists notes should be brought into school when the student returns to the building. Your help with
this is appreciated.
BUS PASSES: Bus passes are REQUIRED to board a bus that
is normally not a student's assigned bus. We request notes be turned into the office as early in the day as possible.
We need notes from both sets of parents/guardians i.e. the parent/guardian of the student taking a different bus or using a different stop and the parent/guardian of the student they are traveling with.
The note should include:
• Student's FIRST and LAST NAME
• FULL name of student they are riding with
• Date of request
• Signature of parent or guardian
A bus pass may not be able to be honored if we have not
received two permission forms or if the bus requested is full.
