Records of the Mull and Morvern Agricultural Society. The

earliest programme dates from 1886 and is thought to be the

There is also an account of a show being held in 1846 (details of

Material pertaining to archaeological sites and excavations.

Mull has great archaeological riches and the Museum

celebrates this in a variety of exhibitions from the Mesolithic

through to the early historic period. Iron age forts abound on

Mull and there are crannogs and castles (ruined or otherwise)

of the medieval period and later. A photographic record of

standing stones compiled by Dr Bill Clegg is available in the

exhibition and the archaeologist’s report by Jo Wright on the

Baliscate stones is in the Museum library I-H.1 and 2. Standing

stones at Ardnacross and Glengorm have also been the subject

of excavation. Much of the material pertaining to the

excavation of an early Christian chapel at Baliscate may be

    found in ARCHAEOLOGY 02 and a publication “Baliscate . . .

2010-2014” describes this community project. A brief general

guide to Mull’s archaeology is “Mull: Monuments and History”

situated at the side of Loch Cuin (Loch A' Chumhainn) just

beyond a footbridge that leads to Creit Dubh. The cemetry is

thought to have been separate from any village or church as it

was for victims of a contagious disease

(cholera/typhoid/smallpox). It is also the site of a previous saw

pit, probably connected with boat building (as suggested in the

adjacent to the site and any archaelogical content/context has

    been lost.

subsequently to Alexander Crawford who added Tobermory,

the former British Fisheries lands which he purchased from

David Nairne of Drumkilbo in 1845. In 1856 the estate was sold

to Farquhar Campbell and in 1873 it was acquired by Bryce Allan

left leaving the estate to his son Alexander, who enlarged and
