Congratulations to Brady, Andrew and Isaac on

learning about getting ready for work over the
last few months and participated in a graduation
ceremony at SW TAFE yesterday. Andrew said he liked learning about making the
healthy meals. Isaac enjoyed meeting new people at the course. Brady said he
liked getting dressed up in nice clothes. Thank-you to the major sponsor the Port

Words on Wellbeing - Sue Cowie R U OK? www.ruok.org.au/
September 8th is the day we devote to asking this question of family, friends and colleagues. R U OK?” asked simply can be a way
of identifying when someone needs help. That is why we are also recognising R U OK Day. Asked in a meaningful way, it is a
simple but effective way of showing others we care.
We share common concerns: a child not sleeping or a change in eating habits; being teary or sad; lack of concentration or an
inability to complete work or tasks; withdrawing from usual enjoyable activities. So we all know how lovely it is when someone
asks about us; actually notices us and demonstrates they care. Our wellbeing relies not only on how we cope every day with life’s
battles but on how others help us cope. That simply means we all take responsibility for each other. When someone is having a
bad day, we support and help them. Try – R U OK?
Educators have often spoken of the ‘Significant Other’. This means that it only takes one person to make a difference in a life.
Our school values this with our Buddy system where peer leadership proves an effective way to connect with each other and model
social competencies. Our teachers also are continually making vital connections that encourage holistic education for all abilities;
a smile or a positive word can achieve measurable learning goals. This is inclusive education at its best; where a child’s wellbeing
encompasses not only best pedagogical practice but goals that also target their emotional intelligence

So say it. R U OK? Adults and children alike need to hear this message. My challenge is that it happens every day of the week.

LOOSE ENDS With Jens Altheimer
A story about friendship, loyalty and inventiveness
Dive into a theatrical adventure that feels like the magic box of a bygone trickster – perfect for makers, creators and story lovers. Journey to an eccentric place where gadgets are poetic, puppets are naughty, machines are untamed, and circus tricks pop up when you’re least expecting them. This is a world where music appears from lemons, carrots and a bunny’s bum, monsters go crazy, and birthday parties are ferociously celebrated. Loose Ends is the story of a man who thinks he can organise his life in boxes, and has a knack for getting into mischief. Can this tinkerer learn enough about real friendship to keep him out of trouble? This show makes inventions and machines fun and adds a quirky edge to puppetry.

Seeking donations
of Dog/Cat food,
kitty litter
or Blankets. Please leave at the office - Thank you Portland Secondary College students,
Nick and Coen, are conducting a food drive for RSPCA as part of their year 12 studies.
“At the moment there are 70 animals being cared for by the RSPCA Portland Branch. Collecting items is a
great thing to do for all the animals in the shelter. It will also help the staff at RSCPA care for and feed the
animals. There is a box in the administration area of the school for students, families and staff to donate
items such as dog/cat food, kitty litter and/or blankets. Thank you for your support and hopefully you can
make a kind donation” - Nick and Coen
