Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Mar 9: Dr Haseeb Drabu, Minister for Finance, Labour and Employment today launched J&K Bank's Family Protection Savings Account, here at SKICC, in the presence of JKB Chairman Parvez Ahmed and others. CEO Designate PnbMetlife Ashish K Srivastava. Director Bancassurance PnbMetlife Sameer Bhansal, J&K Bank Executive Presidents, Senior Presidents, Presidents, Vice Presidents and other officers besides executives from PnbMetlife were also present on the occasion. Drabu also unveiled the Debit Card specially customized for the product, which has been designed in collaboration with PnbMetlife. Comprehensively covering the risk of living too short, the product protects the financial cover of the family of the customer in case of demise against small premium and pro- vides assured monthly income to sustain the families for a certain period of time. "J&K Bank needs to move ahead of financial inclusion, which it has been doing com- mendably well, and create a com- prehensive framework for deep- ening of financial services within the state. And the bank's Family Protection Savings Account can be a good beginning in this regard as it's quite a good liability side product," Drabu said at the launching ceremony. Pointing out that most of the stock of our savings is physical, mostly either in the form of land or in gold, the Finance Minister and renowned economist said that if we can convert 10 percent of this stock into savings that will be a huge thing for State economy whereby J&K Bank can gather these deposits and put them to some productive use. Correcting the perception about low CD Ratio of banks in the State, he said that it was more about the avenues to lend in the State than the reluctance to lend by the banks. Urging the management of bank to think and devise innova- tive ways to leverage the bank's tremendous emotional equity and immense presence across the State to its maximum, he said, "I feel very comforted by the Chairman J&K Bank's keen sense of responsibility towards the emotional equity and trust people of State repose in the bank." "It is the moral, ethical and professional duty of every mem- ber of the J&K Bank to respect it and create further value for all the stakeholders. And I believe that under the leadership of Parvez Ahmed you shall be successful in doing that", he added. On the occasion, Dr Drabu along with Parvez Ahmed and Ashish K Srivastava presented mementos to officers of J&K Bank and PnbMetlife who were involved in the productization and customization process of the product. Earlier, Chairman and CEO, Parvez Ahmed, in his speech, called the occasion eventful for the partnership between J&K Bank and Metlife who had recently com- pleted 15 successful years of togetherness. Emphasizing to the people at both sides of the partnership, Parvez said that as Chairman of the Bank, his only focus was to derive maximum benefits from this partnership for the customers of his Bank who were unconditional in reposing their faith and trust on this indigenous bank. During the meeting, they dis- cussed emerging political and socio economic developments in the State. The Chief Minister informed the visiting envoy of her Government's keenness to initiate political process alongwith aggressive developmental governance in the State. She said it is her firm belief that good governance and political dialogue together can get the State out of the difficulties it is presently facing. The Chief Minister said opening of more routes, particularly the tradi- tional ones, across the LoC would ensure more people to people contact and economic activity on the two sides. She said the opening of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poon- ch-Rawalakote roads to traffic and trade has enhanced the stakes of local people on the two sides in peace and good relations and the tempo has to be maintained with the opening of more such routes. On the Indo-Pak relations, Mehbooba Mufti stressed on taking forward the vision of former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, adding the similarities and common- alities on the two sides need to be focused and considered rather than the differences. She hoped the pres- ent Government at the Centre would carry forward this mission. The Deputy High Commis-sion- er appreciated the vision of the Chief Minister for the State. Challan produced against SI in bribery case Vigilance arrests Naib Tehsildar in disproportionate assets case Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Mar 9: The Vigila- nce Organization, Jammu has arrested Sher Singh, then Naib Tehsildar Katra, for accumulat- ing huge assets, disproportion- ate to his known sources of income. He was arrested in case FIR No.11/2014 P/S VOJ U/S 5(1) (e) r/w section 5 (2) J&K PC Act Svt 2006 registered in P/S VOJ. Brief facts of the case are that the accused Sher Singh, dur- ing his posting as Naib Tehsildar, Katra, accumulated huge moveable and immoveable assets worth lakhs during the period of his postings as Patwari-Girdawar and Naib Tehsildar. The assets include two houses, one at Reasi and the other at Katra, two shops at Katra, four storeys under con- struction building at Rehari and several kanals of land at differ- ent places. The accused has also invested huge amounts in the banks and has made donations and other expenditures in crores. The assets acquired by the accused Naib Tehsildar are dis- proportionate to his known sources of income. During investigation, the accused failed to give proper accountability of the assets moveable and immoveable held in his name and in the name of his family members. He was not revealing the real facts from the source of money from which he has raised such huge assets. In order to ascertain the ground reality for raising such huge assets by the accused, he has been arrested for sustained ques- tioning by the investigating agency, said a spokesman of the Vigilance Organization, adding that investigation of the case was going on. Meanwhile, Vigilance Orga- nization today produced chargesheet against Sub Inspector Krishan Lal Raina, then posted as I/C PP Lamberi, Nowshera, district Rajouri, who was caught accepting bribe. The chargesheet in case FIR No. 28/2010 of 2010 at P/S VOJ, for probing into the allegations of corruption charges regarding demand and acceptance of bribe of Rs 20,000/ by SI Krishan Lal Raina from complainant namely Mahesh Singh of Rajouri, was produced in the Anti-corruption Court Rajouri. During the course of investi- gation, the allegations were proved against the accused SI and sanction for his prosecution was also accorded by the Government on 08-03-2017. Court grants 15 days judicial remand of Kewal Sharma Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Mar 9: Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu Sanjeev Gupta today granted 15 days judicial remand of Kewal Sharma, the then PRO to former Deputy Chief Minister, who has been booked in disproportionate assets case. After going through the remand application as well as the CD file, the court observed, “the prayer of the IO seems to be genuine in the light of allega- tions against the accused”. Accordingly, accused was remanded to judicial custody for a period of 15 days with the direction that he shall be pro- duced in the competent court after the expiry of remand peri- od. “In case any medical assis- tance is required by the accused the same shall be provided to him”, the court said.
