"You talk of a 56-inch chest. Probe me, then put me behind bars. I want to tell Modi ji and the RSS that I do not have the slightest of fear," a combative Congress Vice President told the Prime Minister, hitting back at recent allegations questioning his nationality. "Modi ji, it is your Government. You have the agencies. Get a probe done against me within 6 months and send me behind bars if you find something. Stop all this--the mud that you throw at me and my family through your cronies. You are not in opposition, you are in Government now," Gandhi said. Addressing a National Convention of the Youth Congress on the occasion of 98th birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, he said amidst cheers from the gathering that "there is not an iota of truth," in an appar- ent reference to the allegations levelled by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. Swamy had charged that Gandhi had claimed himself to be a British national in docu- ments before the company law authorities of UK. (PTI) 5 bovine smugglers held with 23 cattle Excelsior Correspondent RAJOURI, Nov 19: The police seized 23 bovine animals along with four vehicles and arrested five alleged smugglers in this connection in district Rajouri last night. Official sources said that a police party from Thannamandi under the supervision of SSP Rajouri Rajeshwar Singh during naka at Chhrung bridge near Thannamandi seized four vehi- cles loaded with 15 bovine ani- mals and arrested four persons in this connection last night. Tata Mobile vehicles seized are- JK- 11/ 6983, JK02BD/3503, JK- 11/0488 and JK02B/2533. They were on way to Srinagar via Mughal Road. The police seized vehicles and rescued 15 cattle. A case was registered in this con- nection. The arrested persons are iden- tified as, Iftkhar Hussain, Mohd Khaleel from Darhal; Shehzad Ahmed, son of Mohd Sharief, resident of Darhal; Sajjad Ahmed, son of Mohd Rashid, res- ident of Saidpora Shopian and Altaf Hussain, son of Mohd Hussain, resident of Darhal. Meanwhile, Budhal Police led by Insp Kuldeep Raj during naka at Naga Thub seized eight bovine animals and arrested one person in this connection. He has been identified as Abdul Majid, son of Mohd Hussain, resident of Sangri in Reasi. Youth held for 3 thefts Excelsior Correspondent MENDHAR, Nov 19: The police arrested a thief hailing from Gohlad area of Mendhar and solved three thefts exe- cuted by him recently. A police spokesman said that police party led by SHO Mendhar Anzir Mir acting on specific information rushed to the site and nabbed the alleged thief when he was selling stolen two goats. He has been identified as Parvez Ahmed, son of Manzoor Hussain, resident of Gohlad. He had stolen two goats of Iftikhar, one goat of Ramzan and Rs 10,000 cash from Akhtar Rasool few days back. The police was looking for him and he was nabbed today from Mendhar market. Kharha Baba of Khakha Naban Mandir passes away Excelsior Correspondent POONCH, Nov 19: Thousands of people from Poonch and adjoining areas today paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of Mahant (Kharha Baba) of the historic Khakha Naban Mandir here today. This Baba who always used to `stand' and never sat in last 20 years was most respected by the people of the area from all the communities. He had gone to Char Dham Yatra in a bus and passed away at Meerut yesterday. His body was brought here this morning by the Management Committee members of the Temple. A grand funeral proces- sion was taken out in the Poonch town today by the devotees and people from all the communities. Later, a ‘Samadhi' was raised in the temple complex and the mor- tal remains of the popularly known as `Kharha Baba' was laid to rest this afternoon. More than five thousand people attended his last rites. According to residents of the area earlier also an attempt of theft was made in the temple but this time the thieves suc- ceeded in decamping with gold- en ornaments and cash lying in the temple. The Vijaypur Police has reg- istered a case and started inves- tigation. But no arrest has been made in this regard so far. Man crushed by train Excelsior Correspondent SAMBA, Nov 19: A middle aged person was killed after he came under a train at Railway Crossing near Vijaypur today. He has been identified as Devi Dass, 50, son of Thoru Ram of Vijaypur, police said. Dass was crossing the railway track at Railway Crossing after the Kota Express which was on way from Jammu to Kota hit him. The Railway Police has reg- istered a case in this regard.
