Running parallel to the 2008 programme Daghdha will gather feedback, thoughts, ideas and personal responses to inform the review process. Daghdha will continue to present original and groundbreaking work, whilst engaging in an active and reflective dialogue with its audience, supporters and all those with a vested interest in Daghdha’s success. DAGHDHA: A NEW WORLD IN DANCE “Underlying our work over the last five years has been a deliberate, sometimes seemingly para- doxical effort, to bind, limit or darken our own awareness of what conventional notions of dance are and what a dance company is supposed to be doing. In an effort to break out of the mind-set that dance and a dance company is something ‘unto itself’, Daghdha has instead deployed a deliberate strategy of ‘not-knowing’, of free association, of receptivity, of cultivating points of view beyond our own interests and concerns. We have tried to refuse the territorializing tendency of many art and cultural institutions to form, to define, own and defend their identities, their ‘utter- ances’ as private property. Instead, Daghdha has been cultivating a process of re-invention and re-direction in regards to the role that ‘dance’ and ‘the dance company’ can play within society and the arts. The result of this process of leaving its safeguards has been that Daghdha Dance Company no longer understands dance and the notion of the dance company as an entity sepa- rate and distinct from other and wider fields of human activity and understanding. This awareness has resulted in the breaking open of a new and vital territory of understanding and engagement, one without limits, one with the potential to make links and find connections anywhere.” (Steve Valk – Dramaturge) Daghdha Dance Company is dedicated to developing, producing and presenting contemporary choreography and dance. From its home at John’s Square in Limerick, Daghdha aims to engage audiences nationally and internationally in a socially relevant programme that integrates research, professional development, repertoire and performance. Daghdha collaborates with other fields of inquiry and expression as it strives to develop and promote a choreography that engages with and contributes to contemporary ideas and social realities. A YEAR OF REVIEWIn 2008 Daghdha Dance Company conducts a thorough review of its developments over the last fi ve years and the out come will contribute to a new cultural model for the future of choreography and dance. Daghdha will continue to present original and groundbreaking work, whilst engaging in an active and refl ective dialogue with its audience, supporters and all those with a vested interest in Daghdha’s success.

DAGHDHA: A NEW WORLD IN DANCE“Underlying our work over the last fi ve years has been a deliberate, sometimes seemingly para-doxical effort, to bind, limit or darken our own awareness of what conventional notions of dance are and what a dance company is supposed to be doing.
