Introduction to projects

A decade ago (after 3 years of collaboration with Studio Bosi, Voghera, Italy) I established Nico Papalia Studio,

architecture practice based in Mornico Losana, (PV) Italy.

Since then I am working on a wide spectrum of projects including architecture, private interiors, retails, and products.

My involvement in the project is from concept to completion on site through all the technical and bureaucratic steps

that lead to the success of an architectural work. I coordinate the enterprises and trying to experiment with new

building techniques to improve the work and reduce time and costs of works execution.

Since 2007 I’m using only dry construction systems with low environmental impact: Aquapanel Knauf, wooden balloon

frame system, the system in X-lam wood. I had the opportunity to use this environmental friendly systems, expecially

Aquapanel Knauf, with some of my clients for whom I made some villas.

TO FOLLOW YOU WILL FIND A SELECTION OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT WORKS.

designed and hand-drawn, and then made by local craftsmen with

quality wood glass and iron.

the design looks back to the twenties and thirties, to the language of

Italian Liberty style, to the iron’s architecture. The guests were

amazed by an elevated rail tracks on which was blowing the little

model of an old train, scale 1: 22.5. Its location, very unusual,

seemed to mess with the roars and the splendors of the steam

engine. Today we would call it a narrative environment.

1998 – Teatro di Varese

Degree thesis - Faculty of Architecture - Politecnico di Milano

Awarded with degree prize and scholarship

sponsored by FAAR (FOUNDATION AUGUSTO RANCILIO ARCHITECT) 1997

edition - Milano.

Each type of concert room, depending on its configuration, "sounds"

like a musical instrument: the ideal configuration of the room is no

longer a given, but also become a variable. The concert room, semi-

arena shaped, the system of elevators and acoustic ceiling,

introduces a large number of variables that make this building truly a

flexible tool. The sound combines the functional flexibility.

2006 – 200.000 € HOUSE

NICO PAPALIA ARCHITECT

everywhere

Prototype building of 100 sqm to be built with iron frame and external

facing in metal sheet. This type of structure has the advantage of cut

costs for formwork, irons, castings, brick, insulation, plastering,

painting and be very fast to build while also reducing the cost of

managing the site.

2006 – CLIMBING HOUSE

NICO PAPALIA ARCHITECT

Villa in the hills, Casteggio (PV)

Building designed on land characterized by steep slopes, 27%. The

concept is that of a house that climbs along the slope due to a scale

that allows you to climb it and that simultaneously distributes the

rooms. This allows you to avoid expensive earthworks. Stairs

connecting external create paths between the terraced gardens.
