4. UL 869 —Standards for ServiceEquipment.
5. Federal Specification W-C 375B— Circuit Breakers.
6. Federal Specification W-CP115b —Panel PowerDistribution Type 1, Class 2.
QualificationsA. The manufacturer of the load-
center shall be the manufacturerof the circuit breaker within theloadcenter.
B. For the equipment specifiedherein, the manufacturer shallbe ISO 9000 certified.
C. The manufacturer of this equip-ment shall have produced similarelectrical equipment for a mini-mum period of seven (7) years.
ManufacturersA. Cutler-Hammer.
RatingsA. Loadcenters shall be rated for
120/240V AC and shall have shortcircuit ratings as shown on thedrawings or as herein scheduled, but not less than 10,000 amperesRMS symmetrical.
B. Circuit breakers shall be a mini-mum of 125 ampere frame. Circuitbreakers 15 through 125 amperestrip size shall take up the samepole spacing.
C. Loadcenters shall be labeled witha UL short circuit rating. Whenseries combination ratings areapplied with integral or remoteupstream devices, a label shallbe provided. Series combinationratings shall cover all trip ratingsof installed frames. It shall statethe conditions of the UL seriesratings including:
1. Size and type of upstreamdevice.
2. Branch devices that can beused.
3. UL series short circuit rating.
ConstructionA. All interiors, with the exception of
the branch circuit breakers, shallbe completely factory assembledwith main breakers, main lugs, orno main device.
B. Interiors shall be designed so thatcircuit breakers can be replacedwithout disturbing adjacent unitsand without removing the mainbus connectors and shall bedesigned so that circuits may bechanged without machining, drilling, or tapping.
C. Physical means shall be providedto prevent the installation of moreovercurrent devices than thatnumber for which the enclosurewas designed, rated, andapproved. Half-size breakers shallhave a UL listed rejection tab overthe line terminals. Loadcenterinteriors must have notched stabsto accept these rejection tab classCTL breakers, if required andapproved.
BusA. Bus bars for the main and cross
connectors shall be [tin-platedaluminum] [copper] in accordancewith Underwriters Laboratoriesstandards. Busing shall be bracedthroughout to conform to industrystandard practice governing shortcircuit stresses in loadcenters.
Note: Note to spec writer — select one(copper available in limited ratings).
B. Neutral busing shall have a suit-able lug for each outgoing feederrequiring a neutral connection ofsame ampacity as branch.
Wiring/TerminationA. All wire connectors and terminals
shall be of the anti-turn solderlesstype and shall be suitable forcopper or aluminum wire of thesizes indicated. All connectorsmust meet the "Requirements forWire Connectors and SolderingLugs" as stated in UL 486B.
B. All loadcenters where markedshall be suitable for use with 60°Cor75°C rated wire.
Circuit BreakersA. Circuit breakers shall be molded
case type. Circuit breakers shallhave four-rivet construction (GFIType — 5 rivets). Multipole circuitbreakers shall be of a stack poledesign to provide electrical phaseisolation.
B. Each pole of the circuit breakerwill provide inverse time delayoverload and instantaneous shortcircuit protection by means ofboth thermal and magneticsensors.
C. The circuit breaker calibration shallnot be affected by environmentalchanges in relative humidity. Thethermal bimetal element shall bewelded to the steel frame and cali-bration shall be set independentof the molded case by computercontrolled equipment.
D. All circuit breakers shall be oper-ated by a toggle-type handle andmultipole circuit breakers shallhave an internal common tripmechanism. The circuit breakersshall incorporate trip mechanismsthat are mechanically trip-free fromthe handle. The handle positionshall provide visual trip indication.
E. Contacts shall be of non-weldingsilver alloy.
F. All circuit breakers shall have thetrip rating inscribed on the handleon each circuit breaker pole. Also, unique color-coded cases thatindicate the UL listed 10 kA or 22kA interrupting ratings. Breakersshall be able to be used as mainor branch disconnect devices.
