Program: C/NOFS Results and Equatorial Dynamics: A Technical Interchange

Meeting Date(s): March 10-12, 2013 Location: Albuquerque, NM, USA Role: Member of the Scientific Organizing Committee (SCO) Description: The objective of this meeting was to address questions related to the

dynamics of the equatorial ionosphere, how it is driven from above by the solar wind and from below by the troposphere and mesosphere, how it varies as a function of altitude, latitude, longitude and solar activity. Results from the Communication / Navigation Outage Forecasting System (C/NOFS) satellite, as well as other ground and space instruments, were presented. Meeting discussions related to science questions that can specifically be addressed with C/NOFS during solar maximum and close to the time of reentry when its orbit circularizes. This meeting also addressed future programs, including the Space Situational Awareness Environmental Monitoring (SSAEM) mission planned for 2015 on COSMIC 2, upcoming CubeSat flights and other planned missions.

Date(s): Summer 2013 - Ongoing Activity: Science Without Borders Program Description: Together with Dr. Danieli Rodrigues (Department of Bioengineering), Dr.

Austin Cunningham (former Dean of Graduate Studies) and Dr. Rodolfo Hernandez (Office of International Education), we added the University of Texas at Dallas to the Brazilian Science Without Borders (SWB) Program. This was an exchange student program sponsored by the Brazilian government. A total of 21 Brazilian students participated in this program.

Role: We assisted Dr. Cunningham on evaluating undergraduate applications. We also communicated with Brazilian students interested in participating in the program.
