Girls On The Run Library Bake Sale Saturday, December 17 from 1:00-4:00PM in the main lobby by the Circulation Desk. “Girls on the Run” is a physical activity-based positive youth development program that inspires 3rd - 8th grade girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. December 8 and 9 — Café Society - Set in the 1930s, a young Bronx native moves to Hollywood where he falls in love with the secretary of his powerful uncle, an agent to the stars. After returning to New York, he is swept up in the vibrant world of high society nightclub life.

January 12 and 13 — Captain Fantastic - Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, isolated from society, a devoted father dedicates his life to transforming his six young children into extraordinary adults. But when a tragedy strikes the family, they are forced to leave this self-created paradise and begin a journey into the outside world that challenges his idea of what it means to be a parent and brings into question everything he’s taught them.

January 26 and 27 — Florence Foster Jenkins - A New York socialite dreams of becoming a great opera singer. February 23 and 24 — The Light Between Oceans - A lighthouse keeper living off the coast of Australia with his wife, suddenly spot a baby in an adrift rowboat. They rescue and raise the child as their own.

World War I - 100th Anniversary Film Series* Wednesday, February 1 at 1:30PMWings (1927), in which two young men fall in love with the same girl. After the US enters WWI, both join the Air Corps and become aces. They remain friends, but the relation to the girl threatens their friendship. This will be the second of a series to commemorate American films about World War I—produced between 1921-1933. Starring Clara Bow, Charles Rogers, Richard Arlen.

tweak a recipe until it tastes just right!

FEBRUARY 2017Cathryn Mezzo – a resident of Mineola, she is the writer and illustrator of children’s picture book, “I’m

not afraid of…” and will be displaying the paper collage illustrations from the book. In a world driven

“Born to Read” Early Literacy ProgramThe Mineola Library is proud to be a part of a nationwide initiative that promotes early literacy. “Born to Read” was created to reach out to new parents and their babies to support the sharing of books together. Mineola families with babies born anytime in the year 2015 or 2016 are invited to visit the Children’s Desk to receive the “Born to Read” welcome gift!

1,000 Books B4 Kindergarten ChallengeChildren birth to entering kindergarten - Continuous sign upThe “1,000 Books B4 Kindergarten” challenge is a library pro-gram encouraging all families to read at least 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten. Free logs are available at the Children’s desk. When you reach a reading milestone, bring in your log to collect a prize!

500 Books B4 Middle School ChallengeChildren in kindergarten to entering 5th gradeContinuous sign upCan you read 500 books before you enter middle school? Take the challenge and get a prize for every 100 books you read, up to 500 books! Logs are available at the Children’s Desk. Every time you reach a 100-book reading milestone, bring in your log to collect a prize!

Adopt-a-Shelf VolunteersGr. 6-12Open registrationDo you like to keep books neat and organized? Then use your skills to help keep the children’s books in order on the shelves by becoming a volunteer! Applications are available at the Children’s Desk. Volunteer/community credit will be given.
