Consumers Oil Company of Maryville was incorporated on July 25, 1928 by a group of area farmers. This cooperative was formed under the Capper-Volstead Act of 1922 to assist the area producers to better market their produce. Consumers Oil Company also returns a portion of their profits each year to over 500 of its members/owners. Consumers Oil Company now serves both rural and urban patrons with a variety of products. From feed for rabbits, chick-ens, horses, show animals and to Beef and pork producers, it has a wide variety of products. The Purina Brand feeds offer

a well known brand that is well trusted in the industry. Any specialty feed is also available with advance notice. To accom-modate the producers needs, they also have a feed mill which customizes rations to fit that producers personal need. Along with the variety of feed products, they also have propane which is used to heat houses and dry corn in the fall. They deliver refined fuel products, both gas and diesel, to the farm or on a construction project. The unmanned fueling station accepts credit cards and is a convenience for people wanting to get fueled fast and effectively. Consumers Oil Company is also a member of CHS Inc. a supply cooperative featuring CENEX Fuels. The TBA shop (Tires, Batteries and Accessories) provides a large selection of products for all of the customers’ needs. From large farm tires to the car and truck tires they continue to service anyone that has a need. They also have on the road and farm service for times when the need arises.

Agronomy is a big part of the business at Consumers. From variable rate fertilizer application to seeding rates the agron-omy department is always up to date with the latest technology. They have an automated load out facility that saves time and is efficient. Grain handling is also important as they are also a member of AGP Inc in St Joseph. Soybeans are delivered to Maryville or St Joseph and processed into salad oil, soybean meal, and bio-diesel. Corn is marketed to ethanol plants, food processors, or to feed mills. Harold Spire is the General Manager at Consumers Oil Company. Harold started with Farmland Industries in 1989 selling feed for Consumers Oil. Harold became employed by Consumers Oil in 1991 as the feed and grain manager. He was the branch manager at the Savannah location until Consumers sold the branch to United Cooperative at Plattsburgh, MO. Harold became the General Manager at Consumers Oil Company in 1999 and the COOP has grown from 13 million dollar in

sales to over 40 million dollars in sales in 2015 returning profits back to its member/owners. Consumers Oil Company has

17 full time employees and utilizes many NWMSU students for part time and seasonal help.

Want to attract New Customers?

“Thank you to all of the sponsoring businesses. The New Resident Program was a

great way for us to learn about all that Maryville has to offer. We really appreciated the coupons and valuable information about the Sponsoring businesses and we will

continue to support those businesses before others because of their support for this program”. — New Resident Packet Receiver

“Please thank all the sponsors for their welcome. It is great to be in a town with such great team spirit and community pride”. — New Resident Packet Receiver

What is the New Resident Program?

The New Resident program has three separate purposes:

to welcome new residents;

present them with important information regarding Maryville

and promote sponsoring businesses

All with no cost to new residents.

How do you get involved and benefit from sponsoring this program?

Sponsors will have their business name, address, and phone number placed on an Exclusive Ready

Reference Guide which is included in each packet. As new residents realize their needs for products

and/or services; they can refer to this list and choose to support businesses that went the “extra mile”

in welcoming them to Maryville. ADDITIONALLY, sponsors will receive timely contact information of

those new residents receiving packets which allows sponsors the opportunity to do a follow-up contact

should they choose to do so.

The fee is two dollars per packet payable to the Chamber. Billing is done quarterly. For a family of 2 or

more, only one packet will be given out. We average approximately 30-40 new residents/year.

Questions Asked:

What is considered a New Resident? New Residents must be moving from outside the area to within a

five-mile radius of Maryville city limits. Traditional university students are ineligible due to similar pro-

grams offered students through Northwest.

How does this benefit a new resident? New residents are made to feel welcomed and informed regarding

their new home. They receive information regarding Maryville as well as the sponsor packet. Sponsoring

businesses and organizations may provide a discount coupon, small token and/or business brochure as a

means of introducing their business. Sponsors may change items in the packet as desired with no addi-

tional cost.

If you are interested in becoming a New Resident Sponsor, please fill out application and return to Sandi

Von Behren at [email protected] or call 660-582-8643 for more information.
