Viking Cruises offers both river cruises and ocean cruises through two product lines, Viking River Cruises and Viking Ocean Cruises.

Viking River Cruises expanded into the American market in 2000. Through rapid expansion, the purchase of KD River Cruise Lines, and unprecedented new builds, the river cruise division grew to be the world’s largest river cruise line. It currently offers a fleet of 59 river cruises along the rivers of Europe, Russia, Egypt, China and Southeast Asia.

In May 2013, the company announced the launch of a new small-ship ocean cruising division, Viking Ocean Cruises, which began with the maiden season of Viking Star in spring of 2015, featuring Baltic and Mediterranean itineraries.

In April 2016, Viking Star was joined by an equally elegant ship, Viking Sea, and in early 2017, the Viking Sky will join the fleet – all three ships host 930 guests each and three additional sister ships are on order. Iceland’s Magical Northern LightsKim Gambino

Iceland is a refreshingly unconventional destination. Icelandic nature is unspoiled, exotic and mystical with its spouting geysers, active volcanoes, tumbling waterfalls, towering mountains and sparkling iceberg-filled lagoons. Geologically speaking, Iceland is the world’s youngest country and is still growing.

Your 7-day Collette adventure begins in the capital city of Reykjavik where you will first explore the city and later sail into the darkness of Faxafloi, known in English as Faxa Bay, in search of aurora borealis – or northern lights – one of nature’s wonders. When revealed, you will be dazzled by the flickering display of light bursting with color that unfolds before your eyes dancing across the night sky during the winter months. It’s been called the most spectacular show on earth, and you can see it live in Iceland.

You will continue to travel the incredible Golden Circle, a route that encompasses many of Iceland’s most renowned natural wonders and venture on to the beautiful Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s most famous and picturesque waterfalls with a walkway behind it.

Driving along the scenic south shore you will visit the Eyjafjallajokull Volcano and learn about the dramatic 2010 explosion of the

infamous volcano that brought European flights to a halt.

You will visit the Blue Lagoon and take a dip in the pleasantly warm, mineral-rich water of the geothermal pool located in the middle of a dramatic lava field before ending your adventure back in Reykjavik.

Travel dates are January – March 2017 and October 2017 – March 2018. Prices start at $1,999. For a detailed itinerary, please call Warwick Travel and speak with one of our travel professionals.

St. Patrick’s Week in IrelandDee King

March 11-18, 2017

Saint Patrick’s Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick’s Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide. It is also a day of celebrations with parades, “wearing of the green,” music and songs, Irish food and drink with activities for all.

Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, or course, in Ireland.

Plan now to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day festivities in Ireland on this scenic fun-filled tour. Your journey begins with your arrival in Dublin and continuing to Galway with a panoramic sightseeing tour of Galway City. Continuing on to the majestic Cliffs of Moher, you will stop at a sheep farm for sheep shearing and watching the sheep dogs maneuver their flock before ending the day in Killarney.

Your journey takes you along the Kerry coast to the Dingle Peninsula, which offers magnificent coastal scenery. On to Tipperary where you will view the historic Rock of Cashel and visit the Irish National Stud Farm to view the newborn foals.

Arriving back in Dublin on St. Patrick’s Day, you will make your way to the parade route where you have the opportunity to view the festivities.

Priced from $1459, this is a continued Celtic Tours Favorite!

There are countless reasons why Alaska, known as the “Last Frontier,” is one of the world’s most popular destinations. It is America’s great wilderness frontier, boasting the nation’s largest forest, the Tongass National Forest. There are more than 20 native languages spoken among Alaska’s tribes, and Native Alaskans compose 20 percent of the population.

Alaska is the largest state (in area) of the United States, admitted into the union as the 49th state in 1959. It lies at the extreme northwest of North America. And its size is only rivaled by the variety of attractions it offers. Temperatures in Alaska during the summer range from 60 to 80 degrees. Nighttime and early mornings are cooler, from the 40s to 50s. Late August and September departures could encounter cooler temperatures and slightly fewer hours of sunlight as fall arrives early at these latitudes.

Alaska offers its best either by sea or land. Set sail on the journey of a lifetime on a multi-day Alaskan cruise. This elegant and relaxing travel option is among the most preferred for travelers to Alaska, especially for their first trip. Cruise ships offer convenience, a wide range of services and the ultimate in relaxation. Cruisers unpack once and visit multiple communities and national parks without moving bags or dealing with logistics.

Alaskan cruises tend to feature week-long itineraries from Seattle (round trip) or Vancouver to one of the Southcentral Alaska ports—Whittier or Seward. Guests are treated to a scenic rail journey north to Anchorage, where they either fly home or continue landbased tours, referred to as an Alaskan Cruisetour package. The trips are also offered in reverse, starting in Alaska and ending in Vancouver.

Alaskan cruise passengers are offered a range of tour options while visiting quaint frontier towns—from rail excursions to zip-line tours to wildlife viewing or sport fishing. Many ships visit marine wonderlands including Glacier Bay National Park and Prince William Sound, where guests watch

glaciers “calve” into the ocean in dramatic geologic displays. Opportunities are available to view thundering glaciers and stunning wilderness with naturalists and cultural heritage guides.

An adventure isn’t bound by borders. Explore the soaring peaks, verdant valleys and roaring rivers of Alaska and The Canadian Rockies. Rail travel is a highlight, carrying visitors through some of Alaska’s most picturesque scenery while traveling the original route of the Alaska Railroad. A favorite is visiting Denali National Park and Denali, America’s tallest mountain. Many small ship tours will incorporate wildlife viewing and adventure packages, such as fishing trips or kayak tours for those looking for a more active excursion.

Extending one’s vacation to see sites not viewed from one’s ship—either before or after the cruise—allows more time for creating additional, indelible Alaska memories. Anchorage features dozens of parks and many miles of paved bike paths. Warmed by maritime climate, one can spend the day fishing, hiking and photographing glaciers as well as dining at a four-star restaurant.

Whenever and wherever traveling in “the Great Land,” clothing is a primary consideration. Emphasis should be based on comfort because the dress code is informal and casual. A layered technique is extremely good in Alaska. Travel in Alaska is a worthy endeavor of its own. Whether circling Denali in a bush plane or watching miles of untouched tundra roll by from the window of a train, the mode of transportation can vary. In fact, the best itineraries include a mix of travel modes.

The spectacular of Alaska has something to offer every traveler!

The Viking Rhine Getaway river cruise just might have been the best trip we have ever taken…every detail was worked out in advance and Viking even had personnel at the airport at 4:30am to help us navigate unfamiliar languages and desks! The food was spectacular, we made new friends and we loved the included morning tours and free afternoons. I describe it as even better than the PBS commercials :)

Thank you Kim Gambino for all you did to make it so successful and well planned. We retired teachers love a good, detailed itinerary!

Our Windstar cruise purchased from Linda Waynick of Warwick Travel was the best vacation we’ve ever taken! On our first visit to their office, we shared our likes and dislikes about destinations, city size, crowds, and traveling in general; when we returned a few days later, Linda offered four possible vacations to achieve the perfect trip - complete with brochures.

We can’t say enough about Linda’s professionalism and Windstar! The cruise exceeded our expectations and we plan to take another one with them.

Laura, our group made it to Scotland and back safe and sound! We had a delightful time!! Did you know there are more sheep in Scotland than people? The train rides were fabulous! Also, our tours in Edinburgh and Glasgow were FABULOUS! The company you used was very accommodating and knowledgeable! The 2 tour guides were great! I would highly recommend them to anyone!

The weather was fine, a bit rainy and cloudy, and we did see sun, but it’s Scotland! I’d rather have their weather then the hot and muggy we have here in the summer! The Bosville Hotel on Skye was super, especially the employees! Mary’s and my trip to Liverpool was definitely a BIG HIT FOR US! If you know anyone who wants to go to Liverpool for the Beatles, without a doubt I would recommend the Beatles Ultimate Package, it was so worth it! The Hard Day’s Night Hotel was excellent all around!

Thank you Laura Ellis for all you did for us!! Now we need to decide where we go for our next adventure!

Our Tribute to Eileen W. Foulkes, CTC

On Friday, April 29, 2016, our beloved friend and former co-worker, Eileen W. Foulkes, Certified Travel Counselor, was laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Virginia Beach, VA.

Eileen was born in Bluefield, VA, on December 11, 1922, to Earnest and Gladys Williams. She graduated from Graham High School and Bluefield Junior College in Bluefield, VA.

She spent over 50 years in the travel industry. From 1955 to 1962, she worked for AAA Travel in Norfolk. She later opened Peninsula Travel Service in downtown Newport News in 1962 and managed that agency for 20 years. In 1982, she came to work for Warwick Travel Service, where for

6 years she was co-owner with Paul Ward.

Eileen was a faithful travel counselor with Warwick Travel for 25 years. She commuted from Virginia Beach to Newport News for 45 years doing the job she loved so much. She walked through the door every morning – always with a pleasant greeting and a smile on her face.

Eileen loved to be challenged by her clients and they loved working with her. She would always say with a twinkle in her eye, “I love telling my clients where to go.” One of her greatest travel experiences was flying on the Concord. She retired from Warwick Travel in December 2007.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles J Williams, Sr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Anne Williams of Williamsburg and her nephew, Charles J Williams Jr of Virginia Beach.

Eileen was greatly admired by her co-workers who affectionately considered her the “Queen of Travel.” She was an “icon” in the business and will be remembered by her co-workers and clients as someone who was always there for them in good times or bad times. She devoted her life to her family and to travel. She was the best!

Eileen, we miss you – Gerry, Nancy, Susan, Linda, Kim, Sharon, Laura, Morag, Janis, Dee and Amy.
