Local News Bison Treaty

History

1st treaty signed between them since the 1800’s when they made an agreement for hunting rights.

Bison were driven to near extinction in the late 19th century

Bison were a huge part of the culture of many tribes and first nations groups

The Treaty

Day long ceremony yesterday held at Montana’s Blackfeet Reservation

Signed by 11 tribes from Alberta and Montana

The long-term aim of Tuesday's ”Bison Treaty" is to allow the free flow of the animals across the international border and restore the bison's central role in the food, spirituality and economies of many American Indian tribes and First Nations

!TEXAS BORDER CRISIS!

Thousand of children “showing up” to USA

Sheltered in cramped warehouses

No adults, aged 6-16 mainly

Plan to build fences along border not economically sensible
