1. MANAGING TIME FOR BETTER RESULT

If you have thought or said one or more of the above, then you may have to

consider better managing your time.

There are only 24 hours in your day, just the same as everybody

else. The good news is that there is enough times for the things you

want, but only if it’s used, and used to your advantage. Time

management is the managing of your time so that time is used to

your advantage and it gives you a chance to spend your most

valuable resource in the way you choose.

The benefit of using a planner

To make a PMT calendar: use wall or desk calendar for marking the major

PMT exams and due dates. Moreover, a daily list should be made each day

either when you wake up in the morning or each night before you go to bed.

The list be kept short, about five or six items, both

academic and personal. The list should also be

prioritized and the items and the items should be

small specific goals such as read one chapter of

physics or do all objective MCQ’s related to

previously done chapter. You must learn to use

your schedules every day and learn to say “no” so

that you are on schedule.

Tips for making your schedules

Time wasters

If you were to monitor your time for a day you would be sure to find at least

one, or maybe even more, time waster. A time waster is something that occurs

in the day that is not necessary to your day, and if it did not occur, you from

accomplishing goals. You need to monitor how much time you spend sleeping,

eating, studying, watching television, talking on the phone, running errands,

exercising, etc. The two time wasters are watching television and talking on the

phone. Time wasters need to be recognized and then one needs to figure out

why it occurs and if the situation can be remedied.

Competition is tough, let’s make a plan

WISDOM WORDS FROM TOPPERS

Student should do what they love to do, study with interest and passion and take time out

for refreshment and should not restrict themselves in timeframes.

Ms Swathi Priyanka MBBS

Madras Medical College MMC)

Curie Foundation – 2016 NEET Batch

The preparation for competitive exam as to get start or write after class 10th because two

year is definitely required for the preparations, if you are a fresher. The main focus

should be on the concept clarity and developing an approach to solve questions. Do as

many MCQs as possible in physics and chemistry because that really clarifies your

concept and doubt’s. Be thorough with the theory in biology. Don’t go after to many

books. Make NCRET your score books and get one or two their reference book. It’s the

quality of study that matter and not a quantity.

2. HOW TO STUDY EFFECTIVELY?

Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance

There are varieties of study system available, but all are

organized in basically the same way and are designed to

accomplish the same ends. The system which we are going

illustrate you is called SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read,

Recite, and Review).

This is neither the time nor the place for an easy on learning

or memory, but the key to any study system is simply this:

YOU REMEMBER MORE, WHEN YOU ARE ACTIVELY INVOLVED

AND UNDERSTAND THE CONTENT.

The SQ3R method is designed to keep you involved and increase

understanding. Remember don’t skip any step.

Step 1 – Survey

Before you begin reading, take just few minutes for a preliminary survey of the

chapter or section of your assignment. The goal of this step is simply to get on

overall picture of the nature of the material and how it’s presented. If you are

not accustomed to doing this, you will be amazed at how clear many materials

become, even before you start reading. Some authors make this step easy by

providing chapter outlines, descriptive headings, key sentences, or chapter

summaries. If so, read through these as your first step. The outlines, headings

and sentences will show you how the material is organized and the summaries

will tell you what the author considers to be most important in the chapter. If

you understand this first, it will be much easier to go back and fill in the details.

Even if your authors don’t make it easy- don’t skip this step. Make your own

survey by reading the table of contents, or if necessary, simply quickly

scanning the entire chapter to get a rough idea of what is all about.

Step 2 – Question

After completing your survey, formulae question about than increases material.

Again, some authors provide questions either at the beginning or at the end of

each chapter. If so, read them and be prepared to answer them after reading the

Curie Foundation for Medical Science Phone: - 8939385490, 9941020168,

044- 45525242 Web: www.curiefoundation.com

material. If questions are not provided, make up your own. If the topic is photo

thesis some of your question might be: “What is photo thesis?” “How its

proceeds?” “Who discovered it?” “What factors affect it”? Etc. As you grow

more skilled in the art of questioning, you may find more and more appearing

in examination!

Step 3 – Read

Now and only now are you ready to begin reading your assignment. As you

read, try to answer the questions that you formulated in the previous step.

Answering the question gives you reading purpose and direction and increases

your attention and concentration. There is now a reason for reading this

passage and the material makes more sense!

Step 4 – Recite

This step means exactly what it says. After reading a section, actually recite or

restate the important ideas from it preferably aloud. If you are in a public place

and don’t want to be talking yourself, and then put down the book silently your

recitation, word by word. If you can’t put your new –found knowledge into

your own words, don’t really understand it!

DON’T ALLOW YOURSELF TO CHEAT ON THIS STEP. If you can’t

restate the important points, go back and re-read that section until you can.

At first, you may want to do this for each paragraph – then as you can better at

it, use a sub-topic section, then the whole section, eventually may be whole

chapter, but don’t stop until you can put the material into your own words.

Research has demonstrated that for most effective learning , at least one half of

your study time should be spend on questioning and reciting . These step

require your active participation. You can’t be daydreaming while you are

reciting what you have learned!

Step 5 – Review

Curie Foundation for Medical Science Phone: - 8939385490, 9941020168,

044- 45525242 Web: www.curiefoundation.com

This is not just glancing over the material

again. But a later repeats of the question and

recite steps. Come back to chapter the next

day – or next week and see how much of it

you can restate in your own words. How

much do you really remember? Now is the

time to fill in the week spots.

This is another vital step. If you spend one hour today studying, by next month

you will be fortunate to retain 15–20% of the material. But, if you spend 30

minutes today , then review for 15 minutes tomorrow , 10 minutes next week

and 5 minutes next month. You may retain 80–90% of what you next learned

with the same one hour of total effort! (The exact amount retained will vary

considerably depending on the type of material, how meaningful it is for you,

etc., but the differences are dramatic based on; proper review.)

A final word

A systematic plan of study gives the best return on your time investment.

Rather than grabbing chunks of time here and there for studying, plan some

time for study and for review.

WISDOM WORDS FROM TOPPERS

The secret of my success is practising previous years question papers from

different medical entrance exams. The pattern being similar and question often

being repeated, gives a good practice.

Ms Suraya Fatima MBBS

Thiruvannamalai Medical College (TMC) Curie Foundation – 2017 NEET Batch

The essential components are smart, skilful and repetitive study with proper

dedication and concentration consistently. And most importantly, consider

NCERT as the godfather book. After this, maximum practise of question from

books like MTG is essentially required.

3. HOW TO MASTER THE MUTIPLE CHOICE EXAM

Often students anticipate their first multiple choice exam to be simply a

matter of recognising true statements. However, experience with these exams

shows students that they are often asked to do more than just recognise textbook

material. Multiple choice questions, they are often asked to do more than just

recognise next book material.

Multiple choice questions, they learn, required fine distinction correct and nearly

correct statements. They learn that these distinctions are not only of recognition,

but are distinctions that involve the thinking for synthesis, Analysis, and

application. These higher – order thinking question, sometimes make a content

of the questions unrecognisable. Besides not being fully prepared for these type

of thinking question, student often reading the question carelessly. Therefore, it

is to the student’s advantages to learn about the thinking required to answer

multiple choice of question and to learn how to read the question carefully.

Preparing/study for multiple choice exams

1. Learn how to recognize the various levels of learning that are tested in

multiple choice questioning;

2. Learn how to use new strategies for learning, remember, and thinking;

3. Join or form a study group to practice making and answering multiple choice

question of various levels. Study old exams: Examine each question to

determine. The level or type of thinking between incorrect and correct

alternatives.

044- 45525242 Web: www.curiefoundation.com

4. When studying the material consider groups of facts or groups of idea that are

similar in meaning. While learning each groups, pay special attention to the

differences among facts and ideas within each group. It may be effective to think

of each fact or idea in terms of what each means or includes and what each does

not mean or does not include. For a concept, consider what is necessary or

sufficient to include. How do two similar concepts differ? Why is that difference

important?

Following-up after your exam

Study your market and returned exam in order to learn from your successes and

mistakes, and to improve your performance in the next NEET. This will pay dividends

in future NEET’S. Also some of the question asked in the previous exam can be asked

again in the similar or slightly modified form.

1) Examine each question you answered correctly. Remember how you know that the

information was important when you studied. How did you study?

Curie Foundation for Medical Science Phone: - 8939385490, 9941020168,

044- 45525242 Web: www.curiefoundation.com

2) Examine each question you did incorrectly in order to understand the distinction

between the correct alternative and the incorrect alternatives. Ask yourself why the

correct answer is correct and why the other alternatives are incorrect.

Do’s for answer multiple choice questions

1. If the question is “conceptual”, i.e., if the answer it seeks is a statement. Begin by

covering the alternatives with the ruler or piece of paper. Then, carefully read and

understand the stem of the question before looking at the alternatives. Circle or

underline key words in the stem, paying special attention to qualifying words such as

“always,” “major,” “increase”, etc.

2. Use your knowledge of headlines to think about where in your, text ,lecture notes,

lab, etc. That question is drawn from. Recall few silence points about the information.

If necessary, jot down any relevant facts you need to process the alternatives. This does

not have to make much time but this recall is an essential step!

3. Predict an answer, if possible.

4. Uncovered all of the alternatives and check the formats of the question. Is only one

of the alternatives be correct?

5. Read each alternative carefully for

understanding-NOT JUST FOR

RECOGNITION. Again, pay careful

attention to qualifying words. Keeping the

stem of the question in mind, respond to

each alternative with a yes, no, or

maybe/not sure.

6. If you know the answer, carefully mark

the correct answer on the answer sheet.

7. If you do not know the answer, re-

check the stem of the question. Narrow

your choices, by eliminating any alternative that you know is incorrect. If two options

still looking equally appealing, compare each to the stem of the question, making sure

that the one you eventually choose answer what is asked if u still not sure, make an

educated guess (if there is no plenty for wrong answer).

8. If you were unable to make a choice and need to spent more time with the question,

or you answered the question but are not at all sure that u made the correct choice, put a

big question mark beside that question, and move onto the next. Avoid getting bogged

down on one question part of the way through the exam. It is much better to move on

and finish all of those questions that you can answer and then to come back later to

process the problematic questions.

9. If necessary, when looking over the questions again, change and answer if you can

logically justify the change.

Curie Foundation for Medical Science Phone: - 8939385490, 9941020168,

044- 45525242 Web: www.curiefoundation.com

If the question is the problem that requires calculations 1. Think about what procedure you need to follow the produce a solution. At

this point, with some types of question, it might be possible to make a rough

estimate of the scale of possible answer you are seeking.

2. Solve the problem. Be tidy with your calculations; many errors are made

through untidy writing.

3. Compare your answer to the options given if you’re satisfied; fill in the

answer on the answer sheet.

4. If the answer that you have calculated, is not one of given option, check your

procedure again, making any necessary changes, and recalculate your answer. 5. If you still do not arrive at one of the given options, put a big question mark by that

question, and go on to the next. When you get to the end of the exam, go back to any

questions that you did not answer the first time through.

Don’t for answering multiple choice questions 1. Don’t select an alternative just because you remember learning the

information in the course; it may be a “ true” statement in its own right, but you

have to make sure that it is the “correct” answer to the question.

2. Don’t pick an answer just because it seems to make sense. You are

answering from your knowledge of the course content, not just from your

knowledge and logic.

3. Don’t dismiss an alternative because it seems to obvious and simple an

answer. If you are well prepared for the exam, some of the question will appear

very straight forward to you.

4. Don’t be wowed by fancy terms in the question, i.e., don’t say to yourself,

“that sound impressive, so it must be the right answer!”

5. Don’t pick “c” every time you are unsure of the answer. You could end up

picking “c” far too many times.

Read the directions carefully

Know whether you must mark the one best correct answer or all correct answer

Know if you are penalized for guessing; find out if any incorrect answer will cost you more

points than a blank answer

Read the stem of the question(The question itself as opposed to its options) all the way

through, then read each possible answer all the way through

Use these options themselves to provide you with hints about things you need to know

If you are uncertain if the correct answer, cross out the options you know are definitely

wrong, then mark the question so that you can reconsidered it at the end of the exam;

Circle all negative words and 100%word’s within the question stem and option 100% words

are those that don’t allow for exception, like “all”

“All of the above” answers are often correct. If you know two or three of options are correct,

“all of the above” is a strong possibility

If you’re not sure about a number answer, loss out the high and low and consider the middle

range numbers

Curie Foundation for Medical Science Phone: - 8939385490, 9941020168,

044- 45525242 Web: www.curiefoundation.com

6. Don’t pick your answer based on a pattern of response, i.e., don’t say to

yourself, “ This can’t be another “be” answer “be” answer as we have just had

three in a row”.

WISDOM WORDS FROM TOPPERS

4. TEN TIPS to DRIVE OUT NEET/JEE PHOBIA

1. Location, location, location,… If you’re serious about getting work done, find a place that is relatively free of

distractions. Establish guidelines with roommates for quite times or use the

libraries, study rooms, or empty classrooms.

2. Make It a Habit: Work Every Day Avoid all-night cram sessions in which you (unsuccessfully) try to

understand and retain large amounts of information. Spend time on

your studies each day, and you can stay on top of your courses and still have

time for fun. Use small blocks of time-you’ll be amazed what you can get done

between study sessions.

3. Help Exists! Seek It Out and Improve your Grades Whether you’re an ‘A’ student or ‘D’ students, you can strengthen your

learning skills. Whenever a doubt crops up get it cleared. Never hesitate to ask

for help from your teachers/parents.

4. Write It Down Remember important dates. It’s up to remember due dates for spending PMT

applications and test dates. A wall calendar of important dates is also a good

idea.

There was no fixed number of hours I used to study for. I just did everything as

much it was required and I found different requirements each day. I kept cool

attitude during study. I didn’t run after solving loads of books

5. Get Energized-Eat, Exercise, Sleep Not understanding? Trouble remembering? Comprehension and memory are

affected by stress and figure. When you’re hungry, tense, or tired your brain

can’t function at its full potential. It’s especially crucial to eat well, exercise,

and get adequate sleep during exam periods.

6. Be a Keener: Go to class prepared and take good notes Don’t fall into the habit of missing class. Someone else’s notes or not going to

be as good as having gone to the lecture yourself. In class, listen for emphasis

and examples. Take a through set of notes; you will be a thankful at test time.

7. Lectures and text books; what’s the BIG picture?

Many unsuccessful students see a course as “a lot of stuffs to memorize.”

School/college learning requires understanding how pieces of information fit

together to form a “BIG picture.” Use course outlines, tables of content,

headings and subheadings to organize the information in each of your courses.

Routinely ask yourself, “what’s the purpose of this deal?” And “does it make

sense?”

8. Do something (anything!) To remember key information Capture your understanding of course material in an active way. Generate

examples, create mnemonics, make summary notes, identify key words,

highlighting text books or had margins notes. Be creative and interested and

you will certainly do well at test time. Before a test, make sure that you can

recall important information from memory. Self-test by recalling information

without looking at notes or text books and by doing practice exams if available.

9. Be test smart Don’t lose marks because of test-writing errors such as miss reading a question

or running out of time. Also, carefully read instructions, budget time to marks,

and do less difficult questions first to build confidence.

10. Get a mentor

Curie Foundation for Medical Science Phone: - 8939385490, 9941020168,

044- 45525242 Web: www.curiefoundation.com

And finally have a mentor-someone you know who has succeeded in PMT’s. It

can even be your father or brother. Idolize your mentor and keep asking him

for advices. Run to him when you have a problem. He can act as a single

source of motivation and problem solver of you.

5. TEN TRAPS OF STUDYING

1.”I Don’t Know Where To Begin” Take Control Make a list of all the things you have to do. Break your workload down into

manageable chunks. Prioritize! Schedule your time realistically. Don’t skip

classes near exam –you may miss a review session. Use that hour in between

classes to review notes. Interrupt study time with planned study breaks. Begin

studying early, with an hour or two per day, and slowly build as the exam

approaches.

2. “I’ve got So Much to Study…And So Little Time” Preview Survey your syllabus, reading material, and notes. Identify the most important

topics emphasized, and areas still not understood. Previewing saves time,

especially with non-fiction reading, by helping you organize and focus in on

the main topics. But remember, previewing is not an effective substitute for

reading.

3. “This Stuff Is So Dry, I Can’t Even Stay Awake Reading It”

Attack! Get actively involved

with the test as you read. Ask

yourself,” What is important to remember about this section? “Take notes or

underline key concepts. Discuss the material with others in your class. Study

together. Stay together. Stay on the offensive, especially with material that you

Curie Foundation for Medical Science Phone: - 8939385490, 9941020168,

044- 45525242 Web: www.curiefoundation.com

don’t find interesting, rather than reading passively and missing important

points.

4. “I Read It. I Understand It. But I Just Can’t Get It To Sink In” Elaborate .We remembers the best things that are most meaningful to us. As

you are reading, try to elaborate upon new information with your own

examples. Some techniques include:

5. “I Guess I Understand It” Test yourself. Make up questions about key sections in notes or reading.

Keep in mind what the professor has stressed in the course. Examine the

relationships between concepts and sections. Often, simply by changing

section headings you can generate many effective questions.

6. “There’s too much to remember” Organize. Information is recalled better if it is represented in an organized

framework that will make ret rived more systematic. There are many

techniques that can help you organize new information, including:

Curie Foundation for Medical Science Phone: - 8939385490, 9941020168,

044- 45525242 Web: www.curiefoundation.com

o r g a n i z e a n d i n t e r r e l a t e d m a t e r i a l .

7.”I Knew It A Minute Ago” Review. After reading a section, try to recall the information contained in it.

Try answering the questions you made for that section. If you cannot recall

enough,

Re-read portions you had trouble remembering. The more time you spend

studying, the more you tend to recall. Even after you spend studying, the more

you tend to recall. Even after the point where information can be perfectly

recalled, further study makes the material less likely to be forgotten entirely.

8. “But I Like To Study in Bed” Context. Recall is better when study context (physical, location, as well as

mental, emotional, and physical state) are similar to the test context. The

greater the similarity between the study setting and the test setting, the greater

the like hood that material studied will be recalled during the test.

9. “Cramming Before a Test Helps Keep It Fresh In My Mind” Spacing. Start studying now. Keep studying as you go along. Begin with an

hour or two a day about one week before the exam, and then increase study

time as the exam approaches. Recall increases as study time gets spread out

over time.

10. “I’m Gonna Stay up All Night till Get This” Avoid Mental Exhaustion. Take short breaks often when studying. Before a

test, have a rested mind. When you take a study break, and just before you go

to sleep at night, don’t think about academics. Relax and unwind, mentally and

physically. Otherwise, your break won’t refresh you and you’ll find yourself

lying awake at night. It’s more important than ever to take care of yourself

before an exam! Eat well, sleep, and get enough exercise.
