From here we will follow the courseundertaken by Engineering Solutions, an innovativebusiness dedicated to “custom-made” technological solu-tions applied to luxury homes and business sites.In the salotto - workroom as well as technological show-room, once a long-time craftsman’s workshop and todaythe brand-new seat of the company - we meet engineerAndrea De Martino, founder and deus ex machina of ESwho tells us about his philosophy, his creativity and mostimportantly the distinctive elements that have made hima winner in approx. fifteen years’ of doing business.“I immediately wanted to create a team composed of highlyqualified persons who have worked with me for many yearsand on whom I have invested a great deal in terms of train-ing courses and certifications and I continuously encouragethem to study and develop solutions and innovative tech-nologies to use in our projects. In addition, having an inter-national outlook that gave me the opportunity to differenti-ate clients was the right choice, especially in recent years withthe crisis in the markets, as it enabled me to take a stand andinsist on unusual projects that in our country come up and,unfortunately, are continuously blocked or postponed. Sincethe early years of my business, the ES staff was fortunate tohave Dr. Michela Mariani who, with her legal and linguis-tic "know how", has contributed a great deal to giving ESthe international outlook that today boasts numerous pro-jects for foreign clients, each of which is monitored with thesame passion, realized with personalized solutions withextremely innovative and highly technological aspects butwith a craftsman’s care and skill through the philosophy of“made to order”.

Siamo nel cuore di Roma, a pochi passi da Castel S.Angelo, nel rione storico e pulsante dei maestri artigiani.Da qui proseguiamo il racconto del cammino intrapresodalla Engineering Solutions, un’innovativa azienda disoluzioni tecnologiche custom applicate al mondo resi-denziale e commerciale di lusso.Nel salotto - studio di progettazione nonché showroom tec-nologico, un tempo antica bottega artigiana, ed oggi nuo-vissima sede dell’azienda - incontriamo l’ingegner AndreaDe Martino, fondatore e deus ex machina della ES che ciracconta la sua filosofia, la sua creatività e soprattutto glielementi distintivi che lo hanno reso vincente in circaquindici anni di attività.“Ho puntato sin da subito a creare un team d’eccellenza for-mato da personale altamente qualificato che lavora con meda tanti anni sul quale investo molto in termini di corsi diaggiornamento, certificazioni e sprono continuamente aduna continua ricerca di soluzioni e tecnologie innovative dautilizzare nei nostri progetti. Tale esperienza tecnico artigiana mi è stata tramandata damio padre Vittorio che fin dalla mia adolescenza mi ha per-messo di crescere in un laboratorio tecnico dove tutto venivastudiato e riparato piuttosto che gettato via come purtropposi fa oggi”.L’azienda opera ormai da anni in tre macro aree: home,yacht & building - ribadisce l’ing. Ci può evidenziare dei progetti Corporate realizzati direcente?Nell’ambito dei progetti di Smart Building di respirointernazionale posso citarvi l’ultima ambiziosa realizza-zione per il Pontificial North American College alle pen-dici del Gianicolo - importante Centro congressuale e diformazione clericale all’interno dello Stato Città delVaticano - in cui abbiamo ideato e realizzato un’architet-tura di produzione e postproduzione di contenutiaudio/video. Qui oltre a sale di videoconferenza interatti-ve abbiamo dato vita ad un vero e proprio canale tema-tico nel quale le lezioni impartite dai vari docenti, vengo-no riprese e condivise in streaming in alta definizione, iltutto gestibile e controllabile da semplici Ipad. Ed è pro-prio attraverso questi dispositivi mobili, senza l’utilizzo dipersonale tecnico, che si controlla una vera redazionetelevisiva Stand Alone in grado di produrre, postprodurreed archiviare in un server multimediale file audio e videoaccessibili alla visione e allo studio dei futuri sacerdotiamericani.


This “technological craft” experience was handed down tome by my father Vittorio; ever since I was a teenager he letme grow up in a technical workshop in which everything wasstudied and repaired rather than thrown away as unfortu-nately is the case today.’’For the past three years the company operates in three macroareas: home, yacht and buildings - confirms Mr. DeMartino - and each context has developed prestigious pro-jects that have earned numerous domestic and internationalrecognition.

Can you tell us about some of the recent corporate pro-jects?In the context of Smart Building international projects Ican cite the latest ambitious project for the PontificialNorth American College at the foot of the Gianicolo - animportant convention and clerical training center with-in Vatican City - in which we created and realized a pro-duction and post-production architecture for audio/videocontents. Here, in addition to interactive videoconfer-ence rooms, we installed a proper special-interest channelin which lessons given by the various docents are filmedand shared in high definition streaming, all handled andcontrolled by simple Ipads. And through these mobiledevices, without the need for technical personnel, a realstand alone television station is controlled, able to pro-duce, post-produce and file in a multimedia server audioand video files accessible for viewing and for studying byfuture American priests.To remain in the corporate sector, among the more recentprojects, I can recall the important technological center,

call center and data center real-ized for the main seat of one ofthe most important Italianinsurance agencies of the well-known Gruppo AssicurativoUnipol: a crucial hub for thestrategic and operating man-agement of tens of thousandsof the group’s clients. Officeautomation systems and tech-nical lighting scenarios alter-nate based on the different usesof the multi-purpose rooms,which can be transformedfrom operating open spaces tobusiness training rooms withspecific characteristics. Withour approach it became a tech-nologically advanced seat indi-cated as an important case his-tory by the Unipol executivesthemselves.

And what approach does Engineering Solutions takewith respect to residences?We are able to instill two mindsets in our projects : we arestrategic and winning in modern contexts, as in the caseof an unusual penthouse “Smart House” recently realizedin the Parioli neighborhood with minimalist, essentialand contemporary designs amplified by our technologicalsolutions. At the same time also in the case of the impres-sive renovation of a luxurious historical residence of morethan 500 square meters near Piazza di Spagna, in whichthe classical style, the warmth given off by the wood inte-riors and the boiseries was enriched and integrated withour high tech solutions skillfully and harmoniously con-cealed in the principal’s architectural preferences.


Sempre in ambito corporate, fra i progetti recenti, possoannoverare anche l’importante polo tecnologico, call cen-ter e data center, realizzato per la sede direzionale di unadelle agenzie generali italiane più importanti del notoGruppo Assicurativo Unipol: un nodo nevralgico per lagestione strategica ed operativa delle decine di migliaia diclienti del gruppo. Soluzioni di Office Automation e sce-nari illuminotecnici si alternano in base alla diversa desti-nazione d’uso degli ambienti polifunzionali i quali si tra-sformano da open space operativi in aule di formazionecommerciale con specifiche caratteristiche. Con il nostroapproccio è divenuta una sede tecnologicamente avanza-ta indicata come case history di rilievo dalla stessa diri-genza Unipol.

E in ambito residenziale quale l’approccio di EngineeringSolutions?Riusciamo a far coesistere due anime con i nostri proget-ti: siamo strategici e vincenti in contesti moderni, comenel caso di un inedita Smart House superattico recente-mente realizzato ai Parioli, a Roma, con atmosfere mini-maliste, essenziali e contemporanee amplificate dallenostre scelte tecnologiche. Allo stesso modo anche nelcaso di un’imponente ristrutturazione di una lussuosadimora storica di oltre 500 mq nei pressi di Piazza diSpagna, in cui lo stile classico, il calore del legno e delleboiseries si è arricchito ed integrato con le nostre soluzio-ni HiTech sempre armoniosamente celate nelle sceltearchitettoniche della committenza.Last but not least, Engineering Solutions è nota ancheper i suoi progetti di Smart Yacht, ci spiega di cosa sitratta?Certo, abbiamo realizzato numerosi progetti in tal senso,da un antico rimorchiatore della marina militare inglesedegli anni 70 reso navetta di lusso, a prestigiosi megayacht 50 mt, portando a bordo la Yacht Automation, ossial’automazione integrata dei sistemi (comunemente chia-mata domotica) attraverso la gestione intelligente dei varidispositivi di bordo, dalla rete dati strutturata alla gestio-ne dei sistemi di sicurezza, di entertainment audio/videoalle motorizzazioni nonché alla gestione intelligente dicomplessi scenari illuminotecnici.

Last but not least, Engineering Solutionsis also noted for its ‘Smart Yacht’ project -can you tell us what this entails?Of course, we’ve undertaken numerousprojects in this sector, from an old EnglishNavy tug from the 1970’s converted into aluxurious shuttle, to a prestigious 50 metermega yacht bringing Automation on boardthe yacht, that is the integrated automa-tion of the systems (commonly calledhome automation) through the intelligentmanagement of the various devicesonboard, from the structured data networkto the management of security systems,audio/ video a entertainment to motoriza-tion as well as the intelligent managementof complex lighting scenarios.The importance of utilizing an integrated“smart” structure enables the principal andthe architectural firm that collaborateswith the principal to give the right signifi-cance to the terms “optimization” and“effectiveness of resources” where today wecan speak of optimization of technologicaldevices; optimization of areas to be sacri-ficed for the so-called technical areas; ener-

gy effectiveness by being able to employ instant manage-ment systems for energy peaks; optimization of realiza-tion timeframes inasmuch as all the projects proceed asintegrated parts of the whole; and last but not least effec-tiveness in terms of maintenance management over time.This aspect in fact enables us to constantly monitor, froma remote position, the status of each system in the resi-dence, the building or the boat, if possible acting toresolve the problem comfortably from our chair withouthaving to deal with technical personnel costs sent specif-ically on site. All of this for the benefit of our client andwith respect for the environment; the use of technologyshould always aim towards these objectives.In this context we have recently delivered a 43 metermega yacht from the well-known shipyard Isa Yacht(International Shipyard Ancona) to a ship-owner in Nice,for whom we worked closely with an architectural firmfrom Paris.And for the near future, where will we see your compa-ny being involved?To give you a peek, right now we’re delivering an integrat-ed management system for entertainment audio and videoand yacht automation for a 50 meter mega yacht in aSpanish boatyard, whose ship-owner resides in Dubai. Inaddition, we’ve presented our system of yacht manage-ment to one of the most, if not the most important Italianshipyards, of which we are proud in Italy and abroad, for

L’importanza di utilizzare tale struttura integrata definitaappunto Smart, permette al committente ed allo studio diarchitettura incaricato, di dare il giusto significato ai ter-mini ottimizzazione ed efficientamento delle risorse laddovesi può oggi parlare di: ottimizzazione nella scelta deidispositivi tecnologici; ottimizzazione degli ambienti dasacrificare per i c.d. vani tecnici; efficentamento energeti-co potendo impiegare sistemi di gestione istantanea deicarichi elettrici; ottimizzazione dei tempi di realizzazione,in quanto tutte le progettazioni procedono integrate traloro; non ultimo, efficentamento in termini di gestionedella manutenzione remota. Tale aspetto infatti ci permet-te di monitorare costantemente e da remoto, lo stato diogni sistema della residenza, del building o della imbarca-zione, agendo se possibile per la risoluzione del problemacomodamente dalla nostra sede senza far affrontare costidi personale tecnico inviato appositamente a bordo. Iltutto in un’ottica di beneficio per il nostro cliente e rispet-to dell’ambiente, obiettivi verso i quali sempre più l’im-piego della tecnologia dovrebbe mirare.In tale ambito abbiamo da poco consegnato un Mega Yacht di 43mt del noto cantiere Isa Yacht (International Shipiyard Ancona) adun armatore di Nizza, per il quale abbiamo collaborato a strettocontatto con lo studio di architettura di Parigi.E per il più prossimo futuro, dove vedremo impegnata la suasocietà?Concedendovi qualche anticipazione stiamo consegnando in que-ste ore il progetto integrato di gestione dei sistemi diEntertainment audio video & Yacht automation per un mega yachtdi 50mt di un cantiere spagnolo, il cui armatore risiede a Dubai.Abbiamo inoltre presentato il nostro sistema di YachtManagement ad uno dei più importanti, se non il più importan-te, cantiere navale italiano, di cui ci fregiamo in Italia ed all’estero,per il quale stiamo anche sviluppando un progetto multimediale direaltà aumentata per un mega yacht in costruzione. Il progetto ètop secret, possiamo solamenteanticipare che dovrà essere persinorealizzato un ambiente di bordointerattivo ad altissima definizionein cui l’armatore vivrà una vera epropria esperienza immersiva nellaquale al suo passaggio tutto pren-derà vita trasformandosi in unasimulazione realistica di paesaggitridimensionali appartenenti aipropri sogni. Sicuramente un pro-getto ambizioso che assieme a tantialtri continua a rinnovare l’amoreche nutro per questo mestiere chesvolgo con passione e con quellacreatività che mi permettono direndere reali molti desideri fanta-siosi dei miei clienti più esigenti.

The project is top secret, wecan only say that in all probability a high defini-tion area will be created on board in which theowner will live a real immersion experience inwhich everything will come to life as he passes by,transforming itself in a realistic simulation ofthree-dimensional landscapes part of his dreams.No doubt an ambitious project which togetherwith the many others continues to renew the lovethat I feel for this business that I dedicate somuch passion to and with that creativity thatenables me to make many of my most demand-ing clients fantastic dreams become real.
