The objective is to provide the training to the trainers in the production and processing of medicinal and aromatic plants. The complete package of production technology will be provided including propagation techniques, raising nursery, cultivation, plantation establishments, plant protection, essential oil distillation, extraction of aromatic isolates and crude extracts from herbal plants including practical demonstrations and overview of essential oil and phytochemical industry and also play a vital role in forward & back ward linkages and trade of medicinal plants. Access to our production fields, laboratory and interaction with the scientists will provide opportunities to the participants to learn and understand alternative crop production processing and quality aspects.

This is a broad based course module that covers all field production aspects of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs). Under this technology demonstration cum training course, the following key point will be proposed;

Identification and traditional knowledge of Medicinal plants.Development of Medicinal plants Nursery and their management.Soil fertility management & soil conservation.Agro practices of selected Medicinal and Aromatic plant (MAPs).Post harvest management MAPs. Value addition/semi processing of MAPs. Forward and back ward linkages of MAPs. Quality assurances, distillations & extraction of aromatic oils. Government Policies for Medicinal Plant Trade.Exposure visit of farmers fields/herbal garden/R&D institutions.Live demonstration of Preparation of Aloe vera juice, jel & face cream.

INTRODUCTIONThere has been a global interest in medicinal and aromatic (MAPs) based raw

materials for production of herbal drugs, pharmaceuticals, essential oils, dietary supplements, nutraceuticals, colours, dyes, perfumery & cosmetic products and aroma compounds. India has a vast potential for production of these plants due to wide range of agro climatic conditions. Systematic cultivation and on-site processing of MAPs by the grower's community can meet the ever growing demand of this particular sector. Knowledge base information and capacity building on complete production system of these plant species are necessary to enhance the production to meet the growing demand and development of micro enterprises. It can be a turning point for diversification of farming systems integrating MAPs in crop production. Therefore, a technology demonstration cum training programme has been designed for human resource development in plant prorogation, cultivation, plantation establishment, utilization, processing and quality control of products based on MAPs.

The present technology demonstration cum Training focuses on these aspects and speakers from both the academic as well the industry will be addressing and sharing their knowledge in the training programme.

The technology demonstration cum Training will benefit the progressive farmers, Pharmaceutical companies, traders, and Government agencies involved in promotion of medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation
