Directed his preparation for an International APD study in India in Summer 2014 and for his preparation for his written and oral exams in Fall 2014. Worked with him on preparation on a journal manuscript, submitted May 2014 and the presentation of two researcher’s APD posters at a national and international meeting. Dr. Shaikh graduated in May 2015 and is currently working at the University of Hawaii.

● Doctoral Committee member for CSD Ph.D. student Dr. Leslie Weaver Johnson’s dissertation defense Feb 5, 2014. Dr. Leslie Weaver Johnson graduated May 2014 and currently works for the UNC Hospitals. She teaches two adjunct classes for our UNCG CSD SLP Masters program each year.

4. Congressional Earmark award (December, 2000): Grant proposal for congressional earmark money to fund the creation of the UNCG Tinnitus Center for Tinnitus Retraining therapy. Funds were obtained from the Human Resources and Services Administration for renovation of clinic space, creation of Tinnitus counseling room, and purchase of new scientific equipment. Mr. Howard Coble, US House of Representatives, supported project. $181,010


5. CTEP grant (April, 2000); Funding obtained for the purchase of Data Projector and Lap Top Computer to Enhance Teaching in Public Schools in Speech-Language Pathology Externship Sites and University Audiology Instruction. $1,800

7. Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro (February, 1999): Grant proposal submitted October 1998 to continue to support the publicity/travel needs of the “Learning to Hear Project.” Specifically, travel funds will be used to send Audiology clinic supervisors to a Tinnitus Retraining Therapy seminar. $5,600

● Appointed Interim Department Chair in July 2013: Responsible for leading The CSD Department in two external reviews in 2013 – 2014, one including the accreditation of the Master’s SLP program.

● IDEALL CSD: Responsible for administrative work in preparing Memo of Understanding (MOU) to General Administration for IDEALL CSD, a collaborative PhD education project with Western Carolina University. The UNCG CSD department is working to form a new collaborative partnership with WCU in distance doctoral education. This is a collaborative PhD program, sharing resources via distance technology, to reach potential CSD PhD students in Western Carolina. Worked with UNCG Legal Counsel’s office and UNCG Office of Assessment in getting IDEALL CSD approved. IDEALL CSD was launched in January 2016.

● CSD Differential Tuition Budget and Financial Aid Awards: Worked with CSD Office Administrator Patty Booker, HHS Graduate Associate Dean David Demo, Cashier’s Administrator Todd Mitchell, and UNCG Adam Steve Honeycutt in setting up DT accounts and budgets; also worked with Dave Demo and UNCG Financial Aid office in awarding Financial Aid awards to CSD SLP masters students. Revised and resubmitted CSD’s Differential Proposal for the CSD Master’s SLP program.

o Renovation of Clinic Space: Helped plan the renovation of clinical spaces used by the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center, including the renovation of two large group therapy rooms, creation of a Voice Clinic,


and renovation of two Audiology Clinic spaces and six individual therapy rooms on the Ferguson building 3rd floor.

● Council of Academic Programs (CAA) National Accreditation of our UNCG CSD SLP Program: Directed the formation of our CSD CAA Team, which prepared our report for the site visit for reaccreditation of our Master’s SLP program.

● Search for Phoenix APT Clinical Supervisor: Conducted summer search for new APT clinical SLP supervisor for contract with Phoenix Academy. Hired Emily Hamuka in October 2013.

● School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) external review of the CSD Department: Oversight of the external review process. Appointed a review team and helped with document preparation and planning for this external review.

● UNCG Speech and Hearing Center: Administrative work with the CSD Clinic Director and Clinical faculty in the operation of the UNCG CSD University Speech and Hearing Center, one of several health care clinics on campus. Work with Clinic Director Louise Raleigh, Audiology/Tinnitus Clinic Director Lisa Fox-Thomas, and CSD staff in monthly Clinical Affairs meetings and maintaining HIPAA privacy and security compliance.

● Formation of the CSD Executive Committee: Formed the CSD Executive Committee in August 2015 for shared faculty governance in the CSD Department. This committee helped revise undergraduate admission, continuation, and dismissal policies for the CSD undergraduate program.

● Expansion of Clinic Services: Worked with Clinic Director and Clinical faculty in the expansion of SLP clinical services:

o Re-Launch of the UNCG Voice Clinic

o Hosting Reading Connection, group therapy for adult foreign language- literacy patients

o Expanding Horsepower (Equine therapy) from a summer camp to an all-year round therapy service; UNCG is the only SLP Masters program in the nation with an Equine therapy program
