Our approach to executive search is both hands-on and collaborative. We commit senior professionals to every search and serve as your first point of contact with prospective candidates. From the beginning of the search to hiring and on-boarding, we have a consultative ten-step process:

Our Unique Approach

Step 1—Understand the Situation:  Prior to defining the position and initiating the search, we will meet with the key stakeholders in the search to better understand the company, the search context, and the specifics of the role. Our experience has suggested that this information-gathering phase is the foundation of a successful search. Insight from these key stakeholders will help accelerate this process as we confirm and identify key elements of the role.

 

Step 2—Define the Position:  Drawing upon Step 1, our understanding of the specific requirements for the role will allow us to develop a Position Profile, which will serve both as the “road map” for the search and as a document that can be shared with the prospective candidates. This Position Profile will summarize the mission and culture of the organization, the position’s scope, and the desired competencies, style, and personal qualities for successful candidates.

Step 3—Identify the Potential Candidate Universe:  Guided by the Position Profile, we will identify potential candidates. Our research process, led by our dedicated Director of Research, includes a comprehensive review of our network of professionals as well as a proactive outreach to functional and industry sources and selected potential candidates. Our worldwide network of recruiting and consulting services is a key component of our approach to identifying the right candidate. Although much of the initial research and screening is done by our Director of Research and Principals, the Managing Directors will be heavily involved from the beginning of the search process and will personally conduct in-depth, in-person interviews and follow-up communication with the candidates.

 

Step 4—Evaluate Potential Candidates:   Our objective is to interview and critically evaluate the most promising professionals and introduce to your company candidates who have a history of success. We will communicate with you regularly throughout this process, sharing what we have learned via search status updates and potential candidates’ profiles. As is true in all stages of the effort, we will consult with you frequently regarding our progress.

Step 5—Present the Candidate:  We will provide a full Candidate Profile, including appraisal of fit, for every candidate we present. We will facilitate scheduling of interviews with prospective candidates and provide pre-briefing and debriefing with all parties.

Step 6—Facilitate Selection:  We will work with you to select the final candidates who are the best fit based upon the intelligence gained through preliminary reference checking and in-depth interviewing by our team and yours. This is the point at which we often serve as an advisor both to you and to the prospective candidate(s).

 

Step 7—Check References:  Once mutual interest is assured, we will conduct “360-degree” reference checks on your finalist(s), reaching out selectively to current and former superiors, subordinates, peers, and third parties. In addition, we will verify postsecondary degrees, relevant certifications, and licenses. Using these resources, we will provide a written Reference Report that details the fit to the Position Profile.

Step 8—Facilitate an Offer and Acceptance:  We will work with you to develop a mutually beneficial arrangement based upon the candidate’s compensation history. Our frequent communication with you and with the candidate will ensure that all parties are well-informed of the status of the offer and that negotiations are on track.

 

Step 9—Facilitate the Transition from Acceptance to Employment:  The transition period is our opportunity to make sure all parties are moving forward with the same end-goal in mind: a successful on-boarding and an enduring relationship. We will stay in close communication with all parties to facilitate a smooth and timely transition.

 

Step 10—Conclude the Search:  We will maintain communication with all those who have been involved in the search to ensure that they know how the search concluded and to foster a positive perception of your company and goodwill among those involved in the process.
