    Five Questions to Answer

    1. What is BECCS?

    2. What is the Scale of the Resource?

    3. What are the Prerequisites for Implementation?

    4. What is the Status of R&D, Demonstration?

    5. How can Access to C-Negative Energy be Accelerated?

    1. What is BECCS?

Bio-Energy with Carbon Capture and Storage

Same as fossil fuels, but with bioenergy

    Suitable for:

    Rationale

    Capture is most expensive part

    How does it work?

Making use of plants ability to capture and store CO2

    5. Accelerating access to BECCS

Most demonstrations are in Europe and North America

Most roll-out will be in Africa, South America and Asia

Feasibility study for hub in a developing Asian country

    Quotations on BECCS / NETs

Negative emissions techniques would be hugely beneficial if

we can get them to be effective, safe and economically

deployable. An interdisciplinary research effort into these

techniques is urgently needed, in large part to explore their

potential whole-of-system costs. Oxford University Website Princeton Environmental Institute, Princeton University

BECCS stands out as a viable, cost effective method to

    significantly reduce atmospheric CO2 concentrationsThis

report depicts the 16 first projects worldwide aiming to install

a BECCS processThe listed projects are mostly located in

Europe and North America, but the majority of future BECCS

systems are expected to be found in South America, Asia and

Africa. Global Status ofBECCS Projects 2010, GCCSI.
