There are currently 84,226 Canadians in the Blue Dot Movement. neil Young donated $100,000 to the Blue Dot Move- ment on Monday evening during his concert in Vancouver. (neil Young’s per- sonal environmental website is: goearth.org A local group was formed earlier this year, find them at Blue Dot Movement- Merritt/Nicola Valley on facebook. The Leap Manifesto The Leap Manifesto calls for a Canada remade as "a country powered entirely by renewable energy, woven together by ac- cessible public transit, in which the op- portunities of this transition are designed to eliminate racial and gender inequality." The Manifesto's authors — scientists, artists, and activists (naomi Klein, David suzuki, Leonard Cohen, Donald suther- land, ellen Page, Bruce Cockburn, stephen Lewis and 27,017 other signato- ries) — have a simple program for get- ting there: "an end to fossil-fuel subsidies. Financial transaction taxes. In- creased resource royalties. higher in- come taxes on corporations and wealthy people. A progressive carbon tax. Cuts to military spending." And it starts with ho- nouring the primacy and land-claims of Canada's First nations. It's a vision for a country whose suc- cessive governments have transformed it from a beacon of good governance, em- pathy and peacekeeping into a world- leading polluter, where selfishness is elevated to virtue and science-denial is the official doctrine. leapmanifesto.org Vote Nation Meanwhile, comedian & social com- mentator Rick Mercer has been instru- mental in launching votenation.ca he says that the youth vote could be the game-changer in the election out- come. According to his sources of every political stripe, "they're freaking out. no one knows what's going to happen (in the election). speech writers usually have to write two speeches for leaders. we win or we lose. They're going to have to write six or seven." All the more reason for voter engagement, Mercer said.
