CALLING ALL FELLOWS Registrar Training Program Needs You!
As a Fellow of the College, you join a select group of doctors with high level of knowledge and experience in cosmetic medicine. As you know the College is calling for input into writing content for the Registrar Training Program. Several units are well under way, but we need more people like our Fellows to provide content on topics in which you excel in. You will make a significant difference. In order to gain the most material with the least effort we are first asking for anyone who has slides for presentations already made that they will give permission to use in the training program. We would be grateful for whatever time and effort each Fellow is able to provide. Those that are able and willing to be more involved will have the opportunity to write more comprehensive segments of lectures. As a contributor, the value of what you bring to our Registrar Training Program represents a significant endorsement of your expertise, which your patients and colleagues will strongly appreciate and value. Your State Representative is your contact person who is collating input, who in turn is liaising with the Education Committee to bring all the topics together. Details of your work will be published in the list of contributors within the RTP in recognition and attached to the section of the course content to which you have contributed!

Presidents 2019 End of Year Message
What an incredible year 2019 has been. Fellowship Examinations, Registrar Training Program, Workshops, Regulator and Government consultations, the ‘Get Real’ campaign, many published statements, it goes on and on. So now we look towards another new beginning in 2020. ACCM Conference 2020: 2019 marked the beginning of a new era of collaboration between the CPCA and our colleagues from
ACAM and ACCS (Faculty of Medicine) formally agreeing to produce a joint conference in October 2020. The previous MOU with
ASAPS having expired, there is no CPD requirement for Members to attend NSS 2020. The new conference ‘Australasian
Conference Cosmetic Medicine‘ (ACCM 2020) will have a completely new style of interactive content, hypotheticals, workshops
and innovative content relevant to the holistic aspects of day to day practice, including social media, legislative change
opportunities, how to keep ahead in ’the market place’ Australian Standards of Medical Education and medico-legal issues. The
logistics of the conference will be focused on eco-friendly delivery, minimal paper use, organic foods and recycling wherever
possible. The conference program will be launched early in 2020.
Continued Professional Development: The CPD section on the College website has been completely overhauled, courtesy of
tremendous work by Dr Paul Spano and our service providers AABA. But, as predicted last year, AHPRA has announced new CPD
requirements for all doctors. It will soon no longer be permitted to just provide copies of certificates documenting didactic events
and the like. Doctors will have to provide evidence of using audits that measure performance, a process that all Accredited
Healthcare facilities have been providing for many years. In 2020, the College will be assessing these requirements and during
the year will provide templates to assist Members and Fellows to help follow these processes.
Registrar Training Program: Correspondence has gone out this month to all Fellows from the College requesting slides of past
presentations. We are looking for anything of use. All contributions, even single slides no matter what topics you’ve presented
on, are needed so we can add these to the content already produced. So, don’t put this off, dig up those presentations and follow
the upload instructions provided in the correspondence. It’s that easy. All contributions will receive recognition within the
Registrar Training Program and CPD points abound!
Government & Regulatory News: There could be some interesting changes coming soon regarding the use of dermal fillers and
BTXA around the place in 2020. While I’m not holding my breath, at least Government is talking to us. There is a certain positive-
action air about the place presently. I’m seeing the apathy that previously dominated FB and the CPCA Messenger Group slowly
turning to ‘what can we do about what is happening’. Of course, things are actually happening, and patients are relating all sorts
of stories about their experiences and views on chain clinics and dodgy practices. From left field, I am floating the idea of enlisting
the help of all our Members and Fellows to promote a Reception Desk petition about the risks of patient safety posed by
unscrupulous and profiteering practices outside of the bona fide medical profession. I‘m looking for feedback on this once the
Board has considered the idea, after a draft of the wording has been approved.
CMA Best Practice Document: 2019 marks yet another milestone. In collaboration with other key stakeholders and emulating
the sentiments of the health workforce organisation Australian Ethical Healthcare Alliance, the document Best Practice Cosmetic
Medicine in Australia is now being widely distributed throughout the profession. These works are the result of stakeholder
consultation as a consensus that concentrates on patient safety and ethical practice, acting as an example of what is expected
of health practitioners practising cosmetic medicine.
CPCA in 2020: The College ‘s public profile is of paramount importance in 2020. The College profile is your profile. The public
presence is your key to being identified as a skilled, ethical and experienced Cosmetic Physician. How do you make that link
apparent to your potential and existing patients? Use the College’s promotional material** wherever you can, on social media,
within your practice, on your letterheads, on your patient information sheets. Contact the office for the official logos and
branding. Promote the College’s ‘Get Real’ campaign in all your advertising. And finally, ENGAGE with the College Instagram
#cosmeticphysianscollegeau leave comments, and follow. If you don’t know how, gather your staff (who will know for sure) and
get them on to it. But don’t leave it there. Put this topic on your regular Staff Meeting Agenda and audit the progress your staff
are making on this. The College profile is your profile and you can help elevate both.
Merry Christmas to you all, and I wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
Dr Michael Molton CPCA President ** Please note, only full and fellow members are permitted to promote their membership with the College.

As a collective the College claims the highest moral and ethical grounds. As a CPCA member, it is important to avoid being named on a website that appears to contravene TGA & AHPRA regulations for Advertising. Our responsibility, as an organisation is to aim to correct these issues wherever they are found. However, it is not uncommon for our members to be confused by the lengthy documents the TGA and AHPRA have published as guidelines and codes for advertising therapeutic goods and regulated health services.
In response, Csilla Novak and your CPCA Board, have collated and summarised the important information you need to know about advertising your cosmetic business legally and ethically. This document provides an overview of the key laws and regulations relating to cosmetic medicine practices, however, does not attempt to replace or overshadow the information sources provided by the official regulatory bodies. This document should be treated as an introduction to the topic, a convenient locator of links to official information and is provided as a member awareness service.
