hoped for. He had found his style, creating images that would elicit a reaction. As his family grew, and his two sons were born, so did his passion for photography and it soon became his career. As time passed he wanted to step out of his normal photography style and try something new. He began experimenting with exposure and exploring light and a passion for infrared photography was born. This quickly became a favorite style because it pushed him to blend art and science. It is exceptionally technical and presents many challenges that force him to think outside the box on what he needs to achieve to capture a scene or convey a mood. As he started exploring and solving technical problems with his photos the solutions led to some very creative and dramatic images. Using this technique, he has captured many Oklahoma City cityscapes, architectural buildings and travel landscapes. Jason graduated with a Journalism degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, he lives in Oklahoma City with his wife and children. He owns Grand Life Originals Photography with his father, Ron.

Since we are headed to the Zoo this month, I thought I’d share a few tips for wildlifer photos that I found in PictureCorrect posted: 01 Sep 2016 by Andrew Goodall 1. GET TO THE SUBJECT’S EYE LEVEL. Wildlife photos are most effective if they create an intimate connection between the subject and the viewer. The best way to do this is to take your photo at the subject’s eye level. This way, your wildlife photo can create the illusion of sharing a moment inside the world of the subject, rather than from the outside looking in.

If, for example, your subject is low to the ground (like a lizard, frog, or even a pet), crouch or lie flat, getting as low as possible so you can take your photo at the subject’s eye level.

3. IF THE BACKGROUND DOESN’T HELP, GET RID OF IT. Many wildlife photos are spoiled because the background is cluttered, distracting, ugly, or just plain inappropriate. For example, seagulls on a beach can be quite beautiful, but seagulls at the local rubbish tip is a different matter. Also, wildlife photos look far less natural if you can tell they were taken in a zoo. Apply this principle: “Anything that does not make my photo better makes it worse.” This does not mean you can’t take a good wildlife photo at the zoo, at the tip, or anywhere else for that matter. You just need to manage it. If your background is spoiling your shot, zoom right in on the subject to eliminate as much of the background as possible. By zooming in, you will also reduce the depth of field to a minimum, so any background that does appear in your photo will be out of focus and less distracting.

Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera The Gilcrease Museum at 1400 N Gilcrease Museum Rd., Tulsa, OK has an exhibit named “Behind the Camera”. The exhibit opened Feb 17, 2018 and will close June 10, 2018. The Gilcrease describes it as “This landmark exhibition sheds new light on Norman Rockwell’s art and artistry. Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera is the first exhibition to explore in depth Rockwell’s richly detailed study photographs, created by the artist as references for his iconic paintings. Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera is organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum and author and guest curator Ron Schick. The exhibition reveals a rarely seen yet fundamental aspect of Rockwell’s creative process and unveils a significant new body of Rockwell imagery in an unexpected medium.”.

The exhibit has contact sheets and photos showing the process Rockwell went thru to make the final painting. They are many more well know paintings with photos to show the behind the scene process. See More at https://www.nrm.org/2009/10/norman-rockwell-behind-the-camera-4/
