About Us…
EMFASIS is the brainchild of a team of Greek citizens living overseas, who work hand in hand with social experts and volunteers based in Athens, Greece, providing a humanitarian response to Greece’s dire needs during one of its deepest socio-economic crisis in history.

EMFASIS was founded to address the holistic needs of all vulnerable and socially excluded groups in need of social, psychological, family support in the wider area of Athens. EMFASIS uses the principles of Social Street Working as its main way of approach and identification of such groups. It also offers advisory support whilst devising a full care program for each case. EMFASIS supports any individual in need irrespective of age or race and is committed to: a non-judgmental approach and anti-discriminatory practices respect for discretion and confidentiality adapting constantly acting effectively and efficiently without being bogged down to
bureaucracy and excessive planning
About Us…
Social Street Work is an internationally recognized form of social support. Its main purpose is to support and protect vulnerable social groups of people and to empower them to protect themselves. Social street workers focus on children and young adults as well as on adults and the elderly who face extremely challenging life conditions and suffer from various types of exclusion. Social Street Workers work constantly on establishing a trustworthy relationship with all target groups, encouraging them to break their silence, so that they can have access to ongoing support. Social street workers approach marginalized social groups in a non-judgmental way and they work hand-in-hand with their target group in order for them to regain their self-esteem, their faith in their abilities and consequently reintegrate into the society. Social Street Workers become the primary and ultimate connection between the socially excluded from one side, and the social support structures from the other, when everything else has failed. EMFASIS Social Street Work operates at a neighborhood level, or in areas where it has been identified that there are vulnerable “pockets” of population.

Street work team Our Street work team consists of social workers, sociologists, psychologists, mental health consultants and street workers with practical experience Social services team The social services team consists of social workers, sociologists, psychologists, career specialists and legal advisors, who, when deemed necessary, work alongside existing social structures with access to a larger network of primary care providers

Special projects / campaigns team The special projects/ campaign team consists of social scientists and operates in direct collaboration with the fundraising department in order to co-ordinate the planning and implementation of any project from its design stage all the way to its completion. Volunteer team Our volunteers are the cornerstone for fulfilling our mission and achieving our goals. Through their inspiring commitment and through their dedication to the vision of our organization, they offer invaluable assistance and support so that we can continue with our daily presence in the streets of every neighborhood, offering dignity and hope.

Our financial resources
EMFASIS is a non-profit organization relying entirely on private and individual funding. Emfasis does not receive any funding from governmental or public entities, nor is integrated in any financial or investment funding package that burdens the Greek or European taxpayer. The only way to implement its mission is to have the real support of those who believe in its vision.

The Special projects are being designed to address the needs as expressed directly by the people in a street situation, coupled with the the feedback offered by the street workers, who have daily contact with them. As a result, we pioneer projects that have a direct positive impact on human needs such as: Emfasis on Health: For those who don’t have health insurance
(proven to be under the poverty line/homeless) the cards offer free medical examinations and a medical evaluation at a private medical facility with no queues and immediate service
“Changing the Past – Dental Restoration” for people, who are in the stage of social re-integration, such as former prohibited substance users, former homeless, socially excluded with a proven record of re-integration process
Humanitarian Initiatives: Ensuring food supplies & clothing, survival kits, personal hygiene items, household hygiene items, nursery and school supplies including creative toys for children, families, elderly, homeless and needy people
Be the Miracle – Pedro Arrupe: Through creative expression & development activities, we provide psychological support to children, who receive additional tuition and educational support in the center.
Printed maps and index with the services/benefits offered by various social entities:(Multi-clinics, Day Care Centers, Soup Kitchens, Rehabilitation Programs) as well as benefits for free services (such as education and entertainment through free performances)

Temporary housing for people who were evicted Events for enhancing the public awareness regarding homelessness in
Greece. Events take place both in Greece and overseas. The completion of each program is followed by a detailed report that analyzes financial data, indicating the degree of success and effectiveness.
