Referí de varias revistas especializadas de Bioingeniería. Fue Editor Asociado (2001-2003) de Medical Engineering & Physics (Elsevier). Ha contribuído en las áreas de bioimpedancia, biomecánica ventricular, deconvolución numérica, educación y promoción de la ingeniería biomédica, fibrilación-defibrilación cardíaca, y microbiología de impedancia. Born in Buenos Aires 1932, he obtained the Bachelor degree from the National College of Buenos Aires (1950), and graduated as Telecommunications Engineer at the University of Buenos Aires (1956). He earned a Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, Texas, USA, 1969), where he also became Assistant Professor (1969–73). Professor of Bioengineering and Head of Laboratory (March 1972–April 2001; retired May 2001) at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT) and Career Investigator (Oct 1977–Sept 2000; retired Oct 2000) of the Consejo Nacional Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), Argentina. Currently, he holds a contract as Fellow Investigator of CONICET. Cofounder and first director (1980–7) of the Instituto Superior Investigaciones Biológicas (INSIBIO) and, later on, Vice-Director (Nov 1995-Dec 1999). Director of the Master of Bioengineering Program at the UNT (July 1996- June 2003). In 1973, he shared the Nightingale Prize of Bioengineering (IFMBE & BES); in 1980 the Houssay Prize of Biology (Sociedad Argentina Biología) and, in 1985, the Catalina B. de Barón Accesit Prize of Cardiology (CORDIC, Buenos Aires). In 1984, he was awarded the Golden Route Prize in Science (Sociedad Distribuidores Diarios, Buenos Aires). The IEEE/EMBS gave him, in Amsterdam, the 1996 Career Achievement Award. He is a Life Fellow Member of the IEEE (which he joined as a Student Member, 1954, when it was IRE). Emeritus Member of the American Physiological Society, member of the Institution of Physics and Engineering in Biology and Medicine (England), the Sociedad Científica Argentina and the Sociedad Argentina Bioingeniería. In 1989, he was inducted into the Argentine National Academy of Engineering, in 1990, into the Córdoba Academy of Medical Sciences, and in September 1997, into the International Academy for Medical and Biological Engineering, in Nice, France. The Secretaría de Ciencia y Técnica (SECYT) of Argentina awarded him the 2004 Bernardo Houssay Prize to the Trajectory in Science and Technology (Buenos Aires, Nov 4, 2004). Also, Felix Cernuschi Prize for Bioengineering 2005 awarded by the National Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciencies. He authored or coauthored over 90 scientific and technical papers and more than 30 teaching and/or general articles, produced 1 textbook (2004), was coauthor in other 2 (1986, 1996), and collaborated with chapters in 6 more; Max Valentinuzzi was also guest editor to 5 special issues of scientific journals. For different length periods, he lectured at several US, Mexican, Brazilian, Peruvian and Uruguay universities acting, also, in the editorial boards of Medical Progress through Technology (Holland, 1979–1994) and Medical Engineering & Physics (England, 1989; Associate Editor, 2001-3) and helping as referee to other journals. Besides, he was Latin American Representative to IFMBE/DCC (1988–1991) and also to IEEE/EMBS (1988–1991). Between May 1991 and Dec 1994, President to the Latin American Regional Council of Biomedical Engineering (CORAL). He has worked in the fields of bioimpedance, cardiovascular system, fibrillation-defibrillation, impedance microbiology, numerical deconvolution and biomedical engineering education. Max loves his students, children, animals and music (plays piano). He enjoys a simple outdoors life. Being is much better than having.

En aproximadamente 45 años, este investigador ha publicado en el rubro Investigación & Desarrollo 85 trabajos en

revistas indexadas, 32 en revistas no indexadas y presentó 88 comunicaciones a congresos. En docencia y puesta al día publicó 9 artículos, 3 libros y 5 capítulos en libros y fue editor huésped de 5 números especiales de revistas. Además, en el rubro divulgación científica publicó 25 artículos y presentó 13 comunicaciones o conferencias, estas últimas por invitación. Hizo 4 traducciones y publicó 26 artículos varios. Dirigió 27 proyectos de graduación de alumnos, asesoró una tesis de maestría en EEUU y dirigió o codirigió 9 tesis de doctorado. Está dirigiendo una décima (al 31/12/2007). Ha contribuído al desarrollo de la Ingeniería Biomédica en América Latina y en Argentina. In approximately 45 years, this investigator has published 85 papers in indexed journals, 32 in non-indexed journals and presented 88 communications to congresses, all classified as R&D. Besides, he produced 9 articles, 3 books and 5 chapters that can be considered as teaching and/or review products; he was also guest editor of 5 special issues of recognized journals. There were 25 general articles and 13 communications and/or conferences, the latter by invitation. He has 4 translations from English to Spanish and 26 miscelaneous papers. He supervised 27 final projects for undergraduate students, was consultant to a master degree thesis in the USA, and directed or codirected 9 doctoral dissertations. Currently, he is supervising another one. Dr. Valentinuzzi has contributed to the development of BME in Latin America and Argentina. The IEEE/EMBS gave him the 1996 Career Achievement Award (Amsterdam) and the IEEE promoted him to the maximum level of Fellow in 1999. He was the main speaker of the EMBS Cancún Conference in 2003 and recipient of the Bernardo Houssay Prize of Argentina in 2004. He is currently listed as IEEE/EMBS Distignuished Lecturer.
