Opa-Locka Executive Airport Tower to Remain OPEN

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advised us that the air traffic control tower at Opa-Locka Executive Airport will remain open despite being previous scheduled for closure. With the help of our local leaders and community, our voices were heard!

Message from Palm Springs North Civic Association

President

Dade County has been looking into the possibility of incorporation and/or annexation of all unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County. Recently, the Board of County Commissioners took a step forward in the process by passing a resolution back in November, 2012 to establish a Task Force Advisory Committee. The purpose of the Task Force will be to provide recommendations as to the implementation of incorporation and/or annexation of the remaining unincorporated areas to the County Commission for further consideration. Upon approval by the Board, the residents would then need to consider and/or vote for whichever option would be more beneficial for their community. For example, items to consider would be

Home Energy Assistance Program Now Available

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is assisting low-income

households with utility payments Low-income individuals can receive assistance with their utility costs through the Community Action and Human Services Department Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) beginning on Monday, April 1, 2013. To qualify, applicants must not exceed 150% of the U.S. Poverty Income Guidelines. Qualified applicants facing a crisis situation may be eligible to receive up to a $600 payment toward their outstanding electric or gas bills. Regular energy applications may receive between $150-$300 dollar payment applied to their utility bill. LIHEAP applications are available at Community Service Centers, Monday through Friday 8 AM-5 PM. Applications and a listing of Community Service Centers are available online at http://www.miamidade.gov/socialservices/housing-assistance-energy.asp. For additional information call (786) 469-4600. Head Start serves preschool children, while the Early Head Start serves pregnant women, infants and toddlers. The mission is to promote school preparation by

enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through educational, health, nutritional, social and other services. Free Tax Preparation Services

Miami-Dade County is offering Free Tax preparation services at select Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) Services Centers' until Tax Day, April 16th. Individuals may also file their taxes online by visiting www.myfreetaxes.com/cahsdtax.

Free Spay/Neuter Surgeries for Dog and Cats Miami-Dade County Animal Services

Department

Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department will be offering free spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats, Sunday on April 14th, 2013 at the South Clinic located at 10700 SW 211 Street, Miami, FL 33189. Registration will begin at 8:00am. Call 311 as soon as possible to schedule an appointment because space is limited.

Services will include sterilization, rabies vaccine (for pets over 4 months of age not currently vaccinated) and FVRPC (cats) or DHPP (dogs) vaccines. Microchip available for $10. Proof of residency in Miami-Dade County required. Cats must be 3 lbs. Feral kittens will be accepted as early as 8 weeks of age/2 lbs. Dogs must be 2 month of age or older. El Departamento de Servicios para Animales del Condado estará ofreciendo cirugías de esterilización / castración libres para perros y gatos, el domingo 14 de abril de 2013 en la Clínica del Sur ubicado en 10700 SW 211 Street, Miami, FL 33189. The Veteran's Committee of the Town of Miami Lakes is selling commemorative bricks to honor loved ones, or for any occasion. The bricks will be placed along the pathway in front of the Veteran's Memorial at the new Government Center. For more information, please contact the Town of Miami Lakes at 305.364.6100 . To purchase a brick, please fill out the attached form and return to Town Hall, 15150 NW 79th Court, Miami Lakes, FL 33016.
