Parking There is limited parking at Royal Yacht Club of Victoria. During the regatta it will be open to club members, competitors and race officials. There is additional parking in surrounding streets, including paid and free locations. Launching and Retrieving – Support Boats Any support boats can be launched at Warmies Boat Ramp, which is free to use.

Arrival and Departure – Optimists, Trailers and Containers Access for Optimist, trailer and container storage drop off at RYCV is via Nelson Place. Please proceed in a clockwise direction and unload as quickly and safely as possible. Please follow the directions of staff and traffic management volunteers at all times.

Designated Storage Areas During the regatta, Optimists, support boats and trailers must stay in their designated areas. Please see the below inserts along with the site map for details.

Registration & Measurement

To ensure a relaxed registration & measurement process at the event, we've prepared the following checklist so that you can arrive confident that you have everything covered:

• You must be a current paid up member of your State Optimist Association to be eligible to compete. If you are not a current member contact your State Association

• You must have a current insurance certificate for your boat, including cover not less than AUD$5,000,000 (recommend AUD$10,000,000) for any accident

• Sail measurement certificate to be shown at registration for Open and Intermediate fleets

• Boat Registration and Measurement book

• All boats must have an WS/ISAF plaque that matches the plaque number in your measurement book

• Note down serial numbers for mast, sprit, boom, rudder, dagger board, in your measurement book. You will need these to complete the Safety & Equipment Inspection form for Measurement (If your equipment doesn’t have a serial number, write the year and sail number on the equipment as a serial number)

• A buoyant tow-rope of not less than 5mm diameter, and not less than 8 metres long, securely fastened to the mast thwart or mast step

• A suitable lifejacket properly fitted and adjusted, with a whistle attached – Bring this to measurement as we need to see it

• Mast able to be securely fastened to the hull (either tied & or mast- clamp)

• At least 1 bailer min. capacity of 1 litre, securely tied to the hull

• One paddle, securely tied to the hull

• Buoyancy bags (3) in good condition and able to maintain inflation

• The centreboard must be able to be securely attached to the hull

• Two toe straps securely attached to the hull

• The strop on the boom must be tightened so that the gap between the boom and the strop is no more than 10 cm

• The rudder must be able to be securely attached to the hull

• Class approved clip on mainsheet / strop

• Your sail number and boat name (as registered) on Stern of boat above water line – letters minimum of 50mm high x 8mm thick

• Write your sail number on everything including your beach trolley and wheels

Registration & Measurement (cont.)

Registration and measurement will take place in the Seaworks Shed, which will be accessible via the gate next to the regatta office. Teams racing measurement will take place on Wednesday 1st January, followed by Open and Intermediate on Thursday 2nd January and Green Fleet on Friday 3rd January.

Medical and First Aid Services Kathy Yu, is the Chief Medical Officer for the Australian Sailing Team and has offered her services for the regatta. She will be onsite for medical consultations during the following times:

entertainment. 3 course dinner in the dining room General admission tickets (BYO picnic or purchase snacks from the bar)

Traffic management will be in place in the area from 7pm on 31 December. Full road closures will be implemented between North Road at Douglas Parade and Nelson Place to Thompson Street. Road closures will be operational by 8.30pm on New Year’s Eve and will remain closed until 1.30am. Patrons and visitors who are parked within the road closure zone before 8.30pm will be permitted to leave by vehicle at any time during the closure period, but will not be able to return by vehicle until after the closure period. Signage will be in place, and Victoria Police will enforce the changed traffic conditions. Traffic controls will also be in place in streets which exit onto The Strand and Nelson Place. Parking regulations will be enforced.

Sunday 5 January All Day Stage 3 of the Bay Cycling Classic is taking place in Williamstown today, with

staggered starts from 1100 until 1400. There will be lots of people in town for this exciting event, so be sure to soak up the atmosphere if you’re not on the water. Tuesday 7 January Today is our lay day! There is so much to see and do around Hobsons Bay, Melbourne and surrounds. Check out some of our recommendations below or go exploring! Come back to the club for dinner tonight from 1700 – 2100. We’re having Mexican! Less than 30 minutes away Williamstown and Surrounds Explore the wonderful world of science at Scienceworks Museum. You can also check out the planetarium and lightning room while you’re here. Kids under 16 are free to the Scienceworks Museum. Ever been on board a minesweeper? Check out the HMAS Castlemaine right next door on Gem Pier. Feel like sailing on something a little bigger than an Optimist? The Enterprize tall ship offers a variety of options. Interested in maritime history? Visit the Seaworks Discovery Centre next door. Up for something super special? Head up in the Melbourne Seaplane, based on the waterfront of Commonwealth Reserve and discover the skyline of Melbourne and witness Port Phillip from above. Still stuck for ideas? Visit the Hobsons Bay Information Centre, located in Commonwealth Reserve.

Werribee Werribee Open Range Zoo is just 35 minutes down the road from RYCV. Discover African and Australian Wildlife and even go on a safari through the Savannah! Right next door you’ll find Werribee Park and Mansion. Pack a picnic and take a stroll around the gorgeous gardens, ornamental lake and the Victorian era mansion. If you want to treat yourself, you can also drop into the Lancemore Mansion Hotel and dine in their restaurant or indulge in a spa treatment. Melbourne’s closest winery, Shadowfax, is the perfect place for a long lunch, complete with cellar door, Italian inspired restaurant and unique architecture Melbourne Melbourne Zoo brings the best of all of the wildlife worlds together right in the heart of Melbourne. It’s just half an hour from RYCV and can also be accessed by public transport. The National Gallery of Victoria has a fantastic collection of permanent works, as well as visiting exhibitions. Make sure you check out the stained-glass roof. Discover the laneways and arcades, a treasure trove of cafes and quirky shops. Discover life under the water at Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium you can even buy bundle tickets for the aquarium and Legoland! The District Docklands has lots on offer to keep everyone entertained. Think ice skating, arcade games, mini golf, an immersive and interactive gallery and getting a great view of the city and the bay from the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel. There is also a Hoyts cinema and heaps of dining options. St Kilda Jump on the St Kilda Ferry and head to the other side of the bay. Check out Acland St for shopping and cafes or head to Luna Park for a fun packed day out. As the sun sets, head out towards the St Kilda breakwater to watch the penguins come home. Get there early to get a good spot. This is a hugely popular attraction. Earthcare St Kilda volunteers will be on hand to answer all your questions and to ensure the penguins remain safe. Please no flash photography. 1+ Hours Away Bellarine Peninsula and Geelong Just an hour from the CBD, Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula is perfect for a short trip without too much driving. You can even catch the train! There is heaps to do, including checking out the seaside, food and wine trails and even Adventure Park Geelong, a fantastic theme park complete with waterslides. Perfect for summer! Ballarat This gorgeous historic town, less than 90 minutes from Melbourne, was made famous by the gold rush. Healesville Sanctuary is located in the Yarra Valley, just under 2 hours from Williamstown. Visiting this zoo, you will have the opportunity to explore a bushland haven for Australian Wildlife. The keepers’ talks are sensational and not to be missed. As part of the Zoos Victoria network, this attraction is free for kids aged 15 and under.
