Registration InformationDATES: Please note the dates of each class. Registration should be completed at least five days priorto the first class meeting or by the stated deadline.

LATE REGISTRATION: Please contact Community Edu-cation to check on the possibility of late registration. Do notsimply show up at the class—it may be full or canceled. Latefees will apply to classes that have deadlines to order sup-plies, t-shirts, etc. Check class listings for late fee amount.

RESERVATIONS: Classes are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis with payment. Confirmation of registration is pro-vided via email from [email protected].

MINIMUM ENROLLMENT: All classes have a minimumenrollment. If we do not reach that minimum and have tocancel, you will be called.

EARLY REGISTRATION: With payment is encouraged. Ithelps ensure that classes will be held, your place is reserved,and instructors will have needed materials prepared.

PHONE CALLS: Phone calls do not reserve your place in aclass. Your registration is complete only when you submit aregistration form and payment via online/by mail/drop-off.

ATTENDEES: You do not need to be an Aitkin School Dis-trict resident to attend Community Education classes.

YOUR INPUT: Is valued. Please let us know how we canimprove our program offerings.

REFUNDS: There will be a 10% cancellation fee to any can-celled registration unless the class is canceled by CommunityEducation. Cancellations made after stated registration dead-lines or within 48 hours of the class, will not be refunded.There will be no refunds after a class begins.

The council meets quarterly to help identify, coordinate and evaluate the educational, recreational, social and cultural opportunities for district residents of all ages. Community Education’s MissionAitkin Community Education’s mission is to improve/enhance the quality of life of our residents of Independent School District #0001.

Community Education’s Goals• To identify the needs of the community with the help of theAdvisory Council, feedback from the Accent, and by con-ducting surveys

• To act upon the needs of the community • To work alongside or coordinate initiatives with otheragencies

• To provide support services like Early Childhood enrich-ment, Before and After school programming (Kids Club)after school study hall

• To assess programs for their effectiveness by completingyearly evaluations of our ongoing programs, completing an evaluation of specific programs and events after theevent has concluded

• To increase physical activity amongst our community withafter-school athletic programs for youth, evening andweekend programs for youth and adults

• To provide educational opportunities to people of all ages

Publication DatesThe Aitkin Community Education publication dates are: February 15, May 15, August 15 and October 15.

Copy deadlines are: January 15, April 15, July 15 and September 15.

The deadline is tentative and can be moved to the last busi-ness day of the previous month if the deadline ends on aweekend or holiday break.

What is Age to Age? It is part of the Northland Foundation’s Rural Aging Initiative where the goal is to create local intergenerationalprogramming. We hope to create relationships between theyouth and older adults in our community. A thank you to theNorthland Foundation for making these programs possible!

GRANDFRIEND PROGRAM A program that has been a partnership between AitkinCounty C.A.R.E. and Rippleside for 20 years, this initiativebrings together older adults and 3rd graders in a pen-pal scenario! Each 3rd grader is given the name and address of a“Grandfriend.” They meet at the beginning of the year at acake and ice cream social, then spend the school year writ-ing back and forth. The youth work on their handwritingand letter writing skills, while the older adults get the enjoy-ment of hearing about the lives of 3rd graders! This year weneed approximately 80 “Grandfriends” so that all of our 3rdgraders can participate!
