COMMODORE’S COMMENTS

With summer behind us, we resume membership meetings on October 18th at The Center Point Yacht Services club room (formerly Harborside Yacht Center), at 700 S. Water St. The meeting will feature the annual Chili Dump and Trivia Contest captained by Craig Heser and Tom McElwee. Grey Halstead will present the slate of candidates for board positions. We had a large turnout at the club picnic September 8th, held for the first time at Fox Brook Park in Brookfield. Many members so enjoyed the location that they asked we hold it there again next year. Thank you, Jim and Connie, for planning the picnic and reserving the park. Another recent event was the club gathering at Oktoberfest in Glendale on the 22nd. The Wagners with Sue’s Dad Rudy, Dorners, Happels, Schnagls, Scott Burke, and Mary Berg attended. Leo & Sue arrived at the park very early to secure a table but discovered that all tables in the main hall had been reserved. We made do with an outside table, except when we had to pick up our beers and run for cover because of a light rain shower. We all enjoyed the music, beer, food, and conversation. The fall Door County Land Cruise will be at the Landmark Resort in Egg Harbor the weekend of the 26th. Fourteen couples have made reservations. If you would like to join us, I believe rooms are still available. Call me for details. In the next couple weeks I will be sending an itinerary to those with reservations. Through the efforts of Daryl, Bonnie, and Liz, you received your Runabouter last month on September 1st, much earlier than usual. THANK YOU FROM MARY ANN I have received a lovely bouquet from all of my boat club friends wishing me a speedy recovery. I have been doing very well. In the beginning we had great comfort and help from our daughter. She came from her home in Boise, Idaho and stayed for over a week. I appreciate your concern and good wishes. Thank you so much to all of you.

Sincerely,

Mary Ann Goetzman

WIVES AND LOVERS DINGHY TRIP It is with regret that I am forced to cancel the fall dinghy trip. I drove to New London to look at the water depth on the Wolf River, and I was shocked to see how low the water is. Pontoon boats were sitting in the mud, floating docks were in the mud, and the water was 10 to 15 feet from the bottom of the launch ramps. While it is possible the water may rise, it is not probable and certainly will not be fun under the existing conditions.

SCUTTLEBUTT

Has anyone seen Denis Molloy lately? Seems he’s been missing in action. Could he possibly be in South America, enjoying the warm tropic breezes from the Andes Mountains and avoiding the political ads? Hmm! It is rumored we won’t be seeing him until next spring. It is said that Pat will be flying down on occasion to join him. If this is all true, Denis, we wish you a wonderful warm winter while we all suffer up here in the cold north.
