Learning News Positive Behaviour recognition (Positive Behaviour Support Program) At assembly this week we had a large number of students who received recognition for 50 and 100 positive rewards, please see page 6 & 7 for their names and photos. Well done everyone on your outstanding efforts. Individual positives will continue to be recognised at each assembly. Our PBS approach continues to make a positive impact on the learning environment at Romsey Primary. This year we have reduced the number of pink slips by almost 2/3 s, this time last year we had 287 and now we only have 102. TOOT ,TOOT ,TOOT everyone. Let’s keep that downward trend happening. 3 Way Conferences and Reports- You can book your time now. There are no classes on this day. Just a reminder that our 3 Way Conferences are next week, 27th June. It is a pupil free day but we ask that your child attends the conference with you, it is important that the children have a strong voice in their learning. School should not be done to them, they need to know that they have responsibility in their own learning journey alongside their family and school. Our conferences are part of their learning program and we will be marking student attendance at the conferences. The conferences are 15 mins long. If you require a longer appointment with your child’s teacher please contact the teacher prior to the conferences to arrange this. Families who do not make appointments will be contacted by the school. Please go into the portal to book your time asap. https://sentral.romseyps.vic.edu.au/portal/login Reports will be released via the Sentral Parent Portal on Tuesday 25 June. Please contact the office if you require help getting onto the portal or if you cannot remember your password. If families do not have the facilities to print reports please contact the office for support. On the conference day Mrs Nicholls and I will be based in the Library, we ask parents and caregivers to drop in and provide us with feedback on the reports as we are constantly wanting to improve them to meet your needs. We would also like those families who indicated in the survey that they wanted more feedback back during the term on student progress to drop in and talk with us about their needs. We are also available on this day to talk with you about anything else you wish to discuss. Year 3/4 Camp The campers are having a wonderful time at Anglesea. Please see photos on the front page. They are expected to return before the end of the school day. We will inform parents via Updated if the bus is running late. We ask that parents do not call the office but make sure that they are on the Updated App for the latest information. Cybersafety On Tuesday 30th July we will be running a cybersafety session for all parents at 6:30pm in the Library. We encourage

all families to attend this important session it will run by Jason Azzopardi, Youth Resource and Proactive Operative

Officer for the Victorian Police.

School Matters Comedy Night Line Up Announced –Save the date. We are excited to announce that Dave Hughes and Geraldine Hickey will be the comedians at our Comedy Night this

CCC and we have decided to decrease them to 3 CCC per half year. Please let us know if you have any thoughts on

this change.

half. 13th Sep P – 2 Athletics 17th Oct Gr ¾ Hands on Science incursion Boys development night, date TBA in Term 3 School council discussed the school devised survey. 29 responses were received (not our highest participation rate) that is 13% of our families. The survey will be modified when it is sent out in Term 4 as we gather data for the school review in early 2020. Addressing Parent Survey topics raised: Playground: We are aware that the Playground has taken a while to get underway but this is not due to the school but to the compliance processes that have to be followed when undertaking a large project. We were very lucky to have received this money after we submitted an extensive application to the Inclusive School’s Fund. This grant has saved us fundraising the whole amount of $180,000. At our current fundraising rate we would have taken a few more years to raise enough money. We raised $15,000 in the first year. We believe the playground works will start in Term 4 and will hopefully, weather permitting be ready at the start of 2020. We hope this provides further clarity on this matter. Over the coming weeks I will address other topics raised via the survey. Please feel free to come and

discuss any of these matters at any time with me.

From 5/6DM In 5/6 DM we are learning how to research historical events and create our own historical narrative writing pieces. This week we are moving on from our introductions and are focusing on the body of our stories. Here are some work samples:

My Diary Sunday the 15 of April

I have been running away from this giant t-rex for about 1 hour

and I could feel myself dozing off, I had to hide, I was so terrified

as I know a T-rex is a carnivore and by the looks of that t-rex’s

face, it was ravenous. So, I went to hide behind a volcano and I

slowly fell asleep without the T-rex harming me.

Diary Recount

1st of September 1939 I am a 13 year old girl, I am short, and tanned I have a friend named Anna. She has short brown hair and loves horses. My dad died in World War 1 when I was 3 along with Anna whose parents died from a bomb. My mama is very nice, but gets scared easily, and lastly my baby brother Max, he is red haired and has blue eyes, and pale skin.

Tuesday 11th April 1896

Today is the last day on the ship. Tomorrow I will be home and see my family and friends. I feel very sick from the ship rocking side to side all the time with a lot of waves. It was hard to sleep at night because of constant thunder strikes in the night sky.

What has been happening in 3/4AG?

In Reading, 3/4AG have been learning the strategy ‘Lift a line’ to investigate and explore interesting and unknown vocabulary. As a class we unpacked a few lines from the text ‘Fox’

written by Margaret Wild. The children used mental strategies like ‘Read ahead and use context clues’ and used resources such as a thesaurus and dictionary to figure out the meaning of words.

They also used the vocabulary to make connections, develop questions and visualise to gain deeper comprehension of the text.
