probably be more useful in settingsfor which students are presentingsome sort of persuasive speech(which is not the assignment for thiscourse). The students'microteaching of their lesson planswill still be assessed, but with amore appropriate rubric. In termsof what happens in class, studentsare provided with multipleopportunities in the course topractice various teaching skills anddevelop appropriate lesson plansfor family life education. All ofthese activities will continue inclass.

1.2 (GEO1.c.)

Students will demonstrateeffective writtencommunication skills.

Assessment of thisachievement target willbe completed by theinstructor of the course;this course is a cross-listed course—bothsections are taught atthe same time in thesame location.

(Foundation Level)The average score ofFS/PSY 290 studentswill be at least 2.8(grade of C, asmeasured by therubric) on the AAC &U WrittenCommunicationValue Rubric on aliterature reviewassignment.

2016 - 2017 Target Met The average score ofstudents on the AAC& U WrittenCommunicationValue Rubric was a3.41; thus, the targetwas met.

The plan from last year was torequire all students to submit draftsof written work. For the past year, Irequired all students to submitdrafts of their first major paper. After that, I required students tosubmit drafts of their work if theyearned a C on their papers (if due toissues other than plagiarism orlateness). I plan to continue theserequirements in the future, as theirperformance on the final paper wasmuch better than in past years. Theassessment will continue in 17-18with the same rubric andassignment.

Assessment of thisachievement target willbe completed by theinstructor of thiscourse.

(Baccalaureate Level)The average score ofFS 382 students willbe at least 3.2 (gradeof B, as measured bythe rubric) on theAAC & U WrittenCommunicationValue Rubric on themajor paperassignment for thecourse.

2016 - 2017 Target NotMet

The average score ofFS 382 students onthe rubric was a 3.1;thus the target wasnot met.

The instructor had added, and plansto add, more opportunities tosubmit drafts. Students' work hasimproved with one required draft, and the plan is to have studentssubmit more drafts for eachsegment of the final paper so as toimprove student performance. Theassessment will involve the samerubric and assignment for 17-18.

to evaluate the students' needsassessment final papers, as studentsuse this assignment to guide theircurriculum planning. Thecompleted program portfolios areturned in after students havepresented their lesson plans andcollected evaluations; given, however, that this assignment is thelast one they complete, students donot have time to act on theevaluation data they collect fromtheir audience. The curriculummodel students use to develop theirteaching plans requires that datafrom their program evaluations befed back into the model to revisetheir teaching plans for future use(as most students graduate aftercompleting this class, such feedbackuse is not feasible); thus, in thefuture, students will be evaluated interms of how well they are able touse data from their needsassessments to develop their lessonplans. Even though students metthis target, an item analysissuggested that students havetrouble using all sources of inputdata to inform decisions about theircurriculum. In class, more attentionwill be given to the curriculumdevelopment model and how to useall input data (not just data fromtheir needs assessments) to informtheir curriculum development. Thesame rubric will be used in 17-18 toassess the students' needsassessment final papers, which areused to guide all curriculumdecisions for their family lifeeducation programs.

3.1 (PO4.d.)

Family Studies students willbecome professional CFLEs.

Faculty will review thequarterly notificationsof newly approvedCFLEs in the CFLENetworker, which is thenewsletter provided forCFLEs. The CFLEdesignation is awardedto individuals based onwork experience over acertain amount of timeand that the individualsearned a grade of atleast a C in allcoursework from anaccredited institution.

At the end of everyacademic year, theassessment coordinatorwill report out thenumber of FamilyStudies graduates to actas a frame of referencefor reviewers.

5% increase from theprevious academicyear in MUW FamilyStudies alumni thatearn the CertifiedFamily Life Educator(CFLE) designation.

2016 - 2017 Inconclusive This is the baselineyear for the data tobe collected for theAchievementTarget's comparison. One student of thecurrent (May 2017)graduating class hasapplied while still astudent (studentscan apply and payhalf the CFLE feewhile still enrolled;they must submit theother half of their feeplus an officialtranscript indicatinggraduation). Thetarget has beenpartially met.

The CFLE designation will continueto be pushed as an option for ourgrads, especially for those in theinternship (FS 499) and programplanning (FS 465) courses, whichstudents often complete just priorto graduation. The option to payhalf the fee while still in schoolseems attractive to them, andstudents will be reminded of thisoption as well. Also, otherbeneficial aspects of the credentialare that more employers recognizeCFLE as important, and havingcompleted a degree from anapproved program means thatstudents can bypass the nationalstandardized exam. The sameevaluation of this target will be usedin 17-18.
