Drive: Take the Cobb Valley Road from Upper Takaka. Follow this intothe gorge, past the Blue Hole (swimming hole) on the right until justbefore the bridge over the river (6.5km from SH60). Park in the largegravel layby and walk from here (GPS -41.039575 172.788543).

Cobb Road Sport Climbs

Approach: Walk across the paddocks (permission courtesy of DaveHarwood the farmer). From the end of the paddocks, pick up a markedtrack (pink and blue ribbons) along the river bank. At high water levelsthis entails a wee wade at the end of the first ledges. An alternativehigh water route existed over the last bluff but was washed out by aslip ... if very high water you will have to go up and over. Trackwanders around along the river bank until a large rock in the riverwhere there is a good source of spring water. Continue along the riveruntil a junction where tape markers point you uphill. A spur track cutsoff to the left some way up the gully which brings you to the bottom ofthe OSM Slabs (GPS -41.045301 172.790390). Continuing up to theright, the track leads up then sidles left to the top of the Dark Towerrock (GPS -41.045652 172.790306). From here a steep track dropsdown to the top of the OSM Slabs. There is a fixed line from the topanchors to the tree abseil point. Continuing on up from the DarkTower rock, the track follows the ridge up to Cosmosis Wall (GPS-41.046518 172.791085).
