Rules used for the 2015 Fall Sports Classic – Basketball As a general guideline our divisions at the Fall Sports Classic run from 1 – 8. Division 1 is our highest level, Division 8 is the lowest.

Athletes competing in levels 1 & 2 (traditional and Unified Sports® competitive) must play by general high school basketball standards. This includes enforcing travelling, double dribbles, lane/key violations, etc. Teams in these divisions may also utilize a full court press defense.

Athletes competing in levels 3-5 can be allowed some leniency regarding travelling (1 – 2 steps) and lane/key violations. Fouls should still be called. If any type of violation is called in these divisions, we request that the official take a moment to tell the athlete why the whistle was blown and explain the violation if appropriate. If a violation (travelling, double dribble) allows a significant advantage to the athlete/team we encourage the official to call the violation. Teams in these divisions may not utilize a full court press defense.

Athletes competing in levels 6-8 and Unified Sports Player Development can be allowed some leniency regarding travelling, double dribbling, key violations and fouls.

The most basic guideline for officials is to maintain the flow of the game while still enforcing the rules. We encourage all officials to utilize their judgment to ensure the teams have safe, fair and equitable competition.
