MSeveral events had been held by CF at its different

centers in mid 2009. At the end of June, CF at FX

launched its Core Motion class featuring Master Trainer

Triesca Arisandy. Core Motion is a mix of basic dance moves and

muscle building for the upper body. This exercise will benefit those

who want to have a better posture and body shape, focusing on

the core muscles (stomach, back and hips).

In mid-June, a new version of Body Combat class was also launched

at CF La Piazza Kelapa Gading. The event, held at the Atrium La

Piazza, had attracted more than 100 members from

various centers and was conducted by trained instructors

such as Eva, Triesca, Lee, Nico, Ray, Didi and Isaac.

CF has also officiated a sponsorship program with Program

Atlet Andalan (PAL), a training program for selected

Indonesian athletes whose objective is to increase

the horizon and lifestyle of the athletes by improving

their potentials and skills in social relationships. All PAL

athletes are entitled to exercise at all CF centers in Indonesia

for a period of 1 (one) year while CF logo will be placed on the

athletes’ apparels.

Internationally, CF has recently opened its first center in Turkey

in May.

Summer holiday is here! Summer or dry season in Indonesia, is the perfect time for a holiday.

Whether you go to the beach or the mountain, the heat, dry weather and sunrays will make us

sweat quickly. Our body’s temperature will rise because it’s losing the fluid and we become weak

since all essential ions that are important for our metabolism are low. You can avoid dehydration by doing

the following things:

1

STAYHYDRATED

UNDER THE SUN

Use sunblock cream everytime you’re

outside, minimum 15 to 20 minutes

before doing any outdoor activity.

Re-apply the cream after swimming

or when you’re toweling. Always stay

in the shade and avoid direct sunray.

Remember, one of the causes of

early aging is sunray.

2Drink a lot of water

and juices, even if

you aren’t thirsty.

This will keep the

supply of the fluid

to your body.

If your skin has

sunburnt, use body

cream that contains

aloe to cool it and ease

the pain.

3

Amber Chia, CF Brand Ambassador,

shares her secrets on what she does in

the summer.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE SUMMER

HOLIDAY DESTINATION?

I love Bali, love the holiday feel and the

environment of Bali.

HOW DO YOU STAY HYDRATED DURING SUMMER

SEASON/HOLIDAY?

Drink lots of water.

ANY FAVORITE FOOD OR DRINK FOR THE

SUMMER?

Again, water and eat more vegetables and

fruits.

WHAT DO YOU USE TO ‘COVER’ YOURSELF

WHEN YOU GO OUT DURING SUMMER?

Always use sunblock and do more facial

masks. I tend to use facial masks from

Estee Lauder a lot.

MUST HAVE ITEMS THAT GO WITH YOU IN

YOUR BAG DURING YOUR SUMMER HOLIDAY?

Sunblock and whitening mask.

CARDIO

EXERCISE

WHAT

People often say that cardio

exercises are good for your

body fitness, but what is cardio

exercise exactly?

WHY

AND HOW

Page 5: CMAGZ-0809

AGE TARGET HR ZONE 50%- 85%

(beats per minute)

Avr max HR 100%(beats per minute)

20 100 - 170 200

25 98 -166 195

30 95 -162 190

35 93 - 157 185

40 90 - 153 180

45 88 - 149 175

50 85 - 145 170

55 83 - 140 165

60 80 - 136 160

65 78 - 132 155

70 75 - 128 150

There are a lot of explanations

on cardio exercise but the

main idea for cardio exercise

is, a sport activity that increases

heart rate to the level where, when

you do that activity you can still talk.

Now we come to the measurement

problem since different people have

different ability to do sport while still

talking. That is why a Target Heart

Rate Zone is developed (see Table).

Cardio exercise is essential to

everyone because of the benefits it

could give to your body:

• Burn calories and decrease body

weight.

• Improve heart condition that ease

the blood pumping job.

• Increase lung capacity.

• Reduce the risk of getting heart

attack, high cholesterol, diabetes

and high blood pressure.

• Improve a good-night sleep.

• Reduce stress and help you feel

better.

To start a cardio exercise is easy.

What you should do is to choose a

sport activity that you really like.

Try to start with a walk around your

neighborhood or on a treadmill. Oth-

er sport that you can choose is jog-

ging, swimming, cycling or aerobic.

Do the exercise 2 to 3 times a week,

starting each exercise with a 5 – 10

minutes warming-up and light cardio

activity to increase the heart rate.

Then increase the pace and intensity

of the exercise to a higher level as

long as you can. You can check it on

the Target Heart Rate Zone (THRZ) on

the table, the heart rate level that

you should be achieving. You may

be able to do it for a couple of min-

utes in the beginning but if you’re

consistent, the duration of the activ-

ity will get longer with the time.

For guidance, when you start do-

ing the exercise, place your target

on the lower value number of your

THRZ range. Gradually, increase the

exercise to reach 75% of your THRZ

range. You will reach 85% of your

THRZ range easily after 6 months of

consistent trainings.

The duration of each session of the

exercise should be added gradu-

ally until it reaches 30 minutes per

session. Focus your exercise on the

duration and not on the distance or

pace. End each exercise with a light

cardio activity and muscle relaxation.

After 4 – 6 weeks, you can add your

exercise time or do other activity as

variation.

If you have health problem, never

start any exercise program without

consulting your doctor first.

HER PAGECMAGZ

EAT (MORE) VEGETABLES FIRST.

Remember when our moms told us

to eat our veggies? Well, eating more

vegetables will ensure our fibers intake

and make our stomach feel full. The

easiest way to fill in your plate is by

mentally looking at it as a clock; from 12

to 6, fill it with vegetables, from 6 to 10,

is the place for either beef, chicken or

fish, the rest you can place carbohydrate

like rice, pasta or potatoes.

SHARING YOUR FEELING.

Telling someone or writing a diary or

a blog to share your feeling will keep

you healthy. If you’re sharing your

secrets with someone, make sure that

this person is trust-worthy and able to

give the advice you need. Diary is like

an album that records all the things you

went through; in the future, it may serve

as a reminder for you. If you choose to

blog, please ensure that everything you

write in it doesn’t openly ‘harass’ other

people without valid reason. It’s a public

media that binds legally.

DO SOME EXERCISE EVERY DAY.

Try to do some exercise daily. A walk in

the morning or evening, light gymnastic

or, if you live in a two-storey house, going

up and down the stairs for a minimum

of 15 minutes will increase your fitness

level and your heart condition. It will be

much better if you do it up to 30 minutes

every day. Remember, when you just

start doing the exercise, do it gradually

until you reach your target.

31

Page 7: CMAGZ-0809

KEEP ON MOVING.

Walk the distance between your parking

space to your office, supermarket or your

nearest favorite coffee house. By moving

your body, your muscles are trained to

be strong and flexible. Doing groceries

shopping? Leave the cart and carry them

to your car.

USE SUNSCREEN EVERYTIME YOU’RE

OUTSIDE.

Sunscreen or sunblock cream should

be in your regimen especially if you’re

living in a tropical country. The direct

expose to the ultraviolet light on our

skin will dehydrate, burn and speed up

the cell degeneration that trigger early

aging. Try to use the cream or lotion 15

- 20 minutes before you leave home.

Wearing a hat, umbrella and sunglasses

will also help reduce the direct expose

of sunrays.

IT’S OK TO CRY.

Crying is actually a good habit. It releases

the feeling that pent up in your heart,

whether you’re sad, angry or even

happy. Three important things you have

to bear in mind before you start pouring

out yourself: find a place where you can

cry without disturbing others, bring a

lot of tissues or handkerchiefs, and lock

yourself in a closed room where you can

cry comfortably. When it’s over, focus

yourself on what you’re going to do

next.

4 5 6

HER PAGECMAGZ

INDULGE – BUT WATCH YOUR

BUDGET.

Pampering yourself is a must. You can

assign a special me-time to recharge

your mind, body and soul, buy yourself

a present for a job well-done, or forget

your diet and eat your favorite tiramisu

cake. However, watching your budget

is also important. You don’t want to

indulge only to regret the money you

spent later.

LAUGHING, KEEPS YOUR

WRINKLES AWAY.

It’s true, laughing is the fastest mood

booster that keeps sleepiness, bored

and stress away. When you laugh, you’ll

feel good, your muscles are relaxed and

blood circulates your body.

HIGHLIGHTSCMAGZ

After a week on the beach, tanned

body, laid back attitude, it’s time

to get back to real life. Yup, back

to the city, to the same house, same

office, same routines. It’s really hard!

Some even say that we need a rest after

a holiday.

What happens when we’re on holiday,

either at home or spending the time

at a touristic site, is that our body and

mind are free from the routines by doing

leisure activities. It can be cooking for

your family, playing with your niece,

reading your favorite novels, cycling on

the beach or just looking at the beautiful

scenery. A holiday should be able to re-

charge our body and mind.

Post Holiday Syndrome is a syndrome

experienced by people who have taken a

leisure holiday and not spending it doing

routine activities. In medical term, this is

more like a ‘blues’ caused by pressure or

stress in facing daily life obstacles.

So, when it’s time to get back to daily

routines after a holiday, make sure you

keep the good mood and feeling.

...back to the city, to the same house,

same office, same routines. It’s really hard!

Page 9: CMAGZ-0809

HIGHLIGHTSCMAGZ

ALLOCATE TRANSITION TIME AFTER HOLIDAY

Leave one or two days at the end of your

annual leave to rest and prepare yourself

to get back to work. Adjust your sleeping

time so when you wake up early for

work you won’t loose energy. If you

go on a family vacation, you will need

time to take care all the laundries, go on

groceries shopping, tidy up all the things

you brought back from the vacation and

prepare the children to get back to their

routines.

MAKE HEALTHY CHOICES

Healthy food/drinks and doing exercise is

the best mood enhancer that leads to the

production of mood relaxing hormones.

The positive energy will ease you back

to focus on the routine activities just like

before your holiday.

KEEP HOLIDAY MEMORIES CLOSE

Telling stories about all the fun things

happened on the last holiday will

freshen up our memory and mood.

Pictures – exhibited as screen saver on

your computer, digital albums or wall

pictures in you FaceBook account – will

serve as a reminder and mood booster

when you’re bored.

TAKE SHORT HOLIDAY OFTEN

Taking a holiday isn’t necessarily going

to a faraway place or spending a lot of

money. You can use your weekend or

public holiday for your vacation. Assign

those days to do things that aren’t

related to your routines, such as taking

a trip on a busway to the Old Town,

spending the time with your best friends

or just reading the new novel you bought

at your favorite coffee house.

PLAN YOUR NEXT (LONG) HOLIDAY

If stress really catches you at work,

planning your next holiday will boost

your mood. Just browsing the next

holiday destination, finding out the

transportation mode and hunting low

fare ticket are the best mood booster.

SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP (ONLY IF THE FEELING

PERSISTS)

Like other ‘blues’, if it persists then you

should seek for professional help from

doctor or psychologist, depending on the

level of stress or depression you have.

So… start planning your next holiday

and hopefully, no more Post Holiday

Syndrome.

Page 10: CMAGZ-0809

It started with some people who

chose bicycle to go to work or other

places, various pedal-pusher com-

munities mushroomed recently. There

are bike to work community, week-end

bikers community who pace the main

street of Jakarta or off-track bikers who

try to conquer the cross-country tracks

around greater Jakarta area, culinary bik-

ers community, old bicycles lovers and

so on. These communities enthusiasti-

cally exchanges stories and information

on their activities.

SPORT, TREND AND LIFESTYLE

BICYCLING:

Bicycle – in Jakarta and big cities in Indo-

nesia – is on demand now. As a transpor-

tation mode, bicycle doesn’t need gas

so it is pollution-free, slick on the road

and doesn’t need a big parking space.

The riders gain the benefits of having a

healthy heart and good body shape. Un-

fortunately, the health benefit is slightly

reduced since they have to share the

streets with all motor vehicles who pro-

duce a very high level of pollution.

HIS PAGECMAGZ

Page 11: CMAGZ-0809

Safety is also an issue when riding a

bicycle. Good quality helmet is a must

because it may prevent head injuries.

Wearing proper clothes and sport shoes

or shoes designed for bikers is also im-

portant. Masker should be worn at any

times to prevent inhaling CO2 produced

by the motor vehicles. Covering any ex-

posed body parts with sunscreen and

wearing sunglasses will help reduce the

damage caused by the sunrays.

For those who want to start riding a bike,

there are several issues that need to be

considered. There are various type and

model of bicycles to be chosen, starting

from a couple of hundred thousand to

the ones priced at millions, beside the

custom-made ones. Nowadays, folding

bicycles are also popular because they

can be folded and placed in a special

bag.

HIS PAGECMAGZ

The presence of these bicycle communi-

ties create a various bicycling needs that

are catered by special suppliers. Not only

spare parts and accessories, bicycle rack

for cars, baby carrier, clothing and shoes

particularly for trendy pedal-pushers are

sold at these bike shops. They also par-

ticipate on events campaigning for the

use of bicycle.

On the other hand, the government

has little attention for this

mode of transportation. In

Jakarta, a car-free day is held on last Sun-

day of the month for just half day where

bicycle lovers can pace the main streets

without any obstacles and less pollu-

tion. The awareness of going green by

reducing the use of gasoline and creat-

ing green environment should make this

bicycle as an alternative transportation

mode in the city that is now jam-packed

with motor vehicles.

HIS PAGECMAGZ

A good lighting is essential especially

for those riding in the evening. Sticking

a cat-eye light on the back of the hel-

met and backpack will also help other

motorists to spot your presence. The lack

of special bike or motorcycle lane in Ja-

karta, except in main streets, requires a

special skill when overtaking other ve-

hicles during traffic jam.

A backpack is a practical accessory that

can carry the things needed at the des-

tination. Other essential tools include

small pump, rack to place water bottle,

bell and a good lock.
