1 Message from the President It is with great pleasure that you will ϐind the agenda and sponsorship information for the 6 th Annual Women In Business Conference in this newsletter. I, and the Board, are excited about the opportunity for CLSHRM to work as a partner with the Central Louisiana Regional Chamber of Commerce on their signature event! Our hope is that as a CLSHRM member you will show your support for this partnership in two ways. First, by speaking to your employer about becoming a sponsor of this event. And second, by registering for this event as an attendee. Why should your employer think about sponsoring? This event highlights your employer’s commitment to diversity, speciϐically of women, in their business and in positions of responsibility. Employers can add this sponsorship to their afϐirmative action Plans, diversity commitments and public relation efforts. Additionally, some sponsorship levels offer additional marketing and advertising value for your organization. Why should you attend? The subject matter speaks directly to concerns, issues and barriers women can face in the business world and beyond. Knowing and learning about these concerns, and how we can overcome them, strengthens your HR skills and opens your company culture to many possibilities. Further, there will up to 11 credits submitted to HRCI and SHRM for recertiϐication CEUs!! And as this event takes the place of our Annual Seminar this year, this will be the best time to take advantage of credits and additional learning in 2018. In this newsletter you will also see that we are supporting your certiϐication efforts in offering a second window to complete the SHRM Learning System class through CLTCC. By being a CLSHRM member, CLTCC will credit $200 back to participants who can present a letter from CLSHRM showing their standing as an active member. But even more exciting is that we are able to offer two (2) $500 scholarships to be awarded to CLSHRM members who make the commitment to complete their certiϐication! This award can be used for the class, study materials, application and testing fees. Last year’s President, Lori Patrick, began the work to resurrect the scholarship program. Through her efforts and those of our College Relations Committee, we are pleased to offer this opportunity to two lucky members! Please keep reading for more details. The Board and I sincerely hope you can see and appreciate the work that has been done this year to promote the HR profession, bring you quality education programming and aligning the chapter with strategic partnerships that will continue to keep us growing and developing long into the future. Our hope is that our work will inspire you to increase your commitment and participation in CLSHRM. We are looking for Board candidates to run in our upcoming election; more faces at our monthly meetings; volunteer support for the Women In Business Conference and so on. Please jump in!! CLSHRM board members would like to extend a

big thank you to everyone for coming out to the

4th Annual Cenla Career Fair and making it a

successful event. This year’s event was the

best ever in terms of turnout with

approximately 1200 job seekers attending.

Representatives from over 60 employers were

available for the job seekers to speak about

employment opportunities.

We appreciate the presence of each of our

sponsors and hope that the event met your

expectations and hiring needs. We look forward

to your feedback and to seeing you next year!

We also have to thank all of our volunteers for

keeping things running smoothly. We appreciate

all of your hard work and dedication before and

during the event. We couldn’t have these events

without you, and we are already looking forward

to the next one.

It is time to put your network to the test!! Now through October, the chapter is in full membership expansion mode and seek your assistance in referring people from your network to become members.

The membership application is attached. And each referral gets you a chance to win at $200 Amazon gift card. Here is how you get in the drawing:

1. Contact your network of HR professionals, office managers, assistants, payroll, safety and benefit personnel.

2. Explain the benefits of a CLSHRM membership.

3. Have them complete a paper (sorry not digital for this contest) with your name listed as referral. (Sorry, new members only. Renewing members are welcome but their renewal will not result in an entry for the contest.

As the incoming State Director for the 2019/2020 Louisiana SHRM State Council, I am excited and looking forward to the privilege and honor of serving our profession for our great State. I know the leadership team is critical to the success of our Council and I want to thank you for your service over the years. Under Mike's great leadership, those that came before him and your contributions, the Louisiana SHRM State Council has grown significantly, accomplished many goals that we have set and have been recognized for outstanding achievement. This could not be possible without each of you, your hard work and dedication to the HR profession. I am truly hopeful that you will join me next year in the leadership of the Council.

As I begin making preparations for 2019, I would ask that you please complete the attached Volunteer Interest Form and return it to me via email.
