VETERANS HALL OPEN HOUSE

SCHAGHTICOKE – Veter-ans Hall Open House at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds on Saturday, August 15, from 10:00am-4:00pm. Veterans Hall is a Salute to Veterans Past and Present. Many fairgoers have visited Vet-erans Hall or have come to an Open House to pay trib-ute to our veterans and say thank you. Everyone knows and loves a veteran and many come to share that connection. Some come to see a picture, a clipping or perhaps an item donated by family or a friend that served our country. Veterans Hall honors all veterans. In ad-dition we are compiling a list of veteran’s names from Rensselaer, Saratoga and Washington Counties. This will be an ongoing objective for years to come. Getting your veteran’s name on the list is free, easy and a good way to ensure his/her service will be remembered. Come and share some time with us at the Veterans Hall. This event if free of charge. For more information contact Jody at 518-859-2988 or Lor-raine at 753-6936.

$45,000 GRAND AWARDED TO TOWN

OF GREENWICHSTILLWATER – Saratoga Na-tional Historical Park Super-intendent Amy Bracewell is pleased to announce that a grant for $45,000 has been awarded to the Town of Greenwich by the National Park Service’s American Bat-tlefield Protection Program. Greenwich Supervisor Sara Idleman says, “The Town Board and I were thrilled when we got the news of the grant. The area in ques-tion is historically significant and the grant enables us to gather important informa-tion regarding the site. We’d like to thank the National Park Service for recognizing the site’s value.” Superinten-dent Bracewell says, “We are very happy for the Town of Greenwich and commend them for their efforts to pro-tect resources associated with one of the most signifi-cant battlefields in American history. We are also grateful for the continued support and financial investment made by the ABPP in our lo-cal communities. With this award the ABPP has invested nearly a quarter million dol-lars in the communities sur-rounding the battlefield. We remain committed to work-ing with our partners to im-prove our local quality of life and to provide exceptional

educational, recreational and inspirational experienc-es for residents and visitors alike.” The grant will fund an inventory of the northeast (Schuylerville) section of Saratoga’s Revolutionary War battles, focusing on the area of the initial British ad-vance, their supply depot, and encampment sites while en route to Stillwater in Au-gust 1777. This same ground was occupied by American forces in October during the closing phase of the battle. The Town of Greenwich is in-terested in locating resourc-es associated with the battle that should be considered for protection. THE JOYFUL NOISE, “WE ARE ONE” CAPITAL DISTRICT – The Joyful Noise was a contemporary Christian music ministry well known in the Capital District re-gion and beyond, during the years of 1969-1993. The Joyful Noise was a large group of young people, led spiritually and musically by Mr. Bill Womer. The Joyful Noise was the core of what would later evolve into “Christian Music Ministries”. The positive side of social media, as well as the unfortunate pass-ing of key members, has stirred interest in a reunion of The Joyful Noise, with the recognition, that still, “We are One”. A reunion is planned for October 10, 2015 focused on reunit-ing and catching up. The reunion will culminate with a bar-beque dinner and an evening Praise and Worship service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Many of the songs spanning three decades when young lives were forever impacted by this experience will be sung together again. We will also be including all the parents and family members in the Satur-day night service who supported each of us during our “JN” years. During these early planning stages we are interested in help locating former members, and identifying folks to assist on various committees that have been formed. Please visit the Facebook page for Christian Music Ministries if you are a former member and want to connect, or contact us at [email protected]

SARATOGA COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL EXHIBITION

CLIFTON PARK – A Saratoga County Arts Council “Art in Pub-lic Places” Exhibition is on display in the 2nd floor Gallery at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library, for the month of August. Featured is the textile and quilt work of the Quilt North Guild. The title of the exhibit is Small Works. This ex-hibit showcases smaller “wall” size quilts, as compared to the traditional “bed” size quilts, which our members create. The quilts show a range of skills and interests, from traditional ta-ble linens to artistic surfaces that might be more at home in a gallery setting. Piecing, appliqué, hand and machine quilting, dyeing, painting, embroidery all have a place in contempo-rary quilt making.
