    Introduction to “Civil Engineering”

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the

anning, design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built

vironment, including works such as buildings, roads, dams, canals, effluent treatm

ants etc. The Various sub- disciplines are material science, geotechnical engineerinrveying, construction, water resource engineering, transportation engineering,

vironmental engineering, structural engineering and project management.

Aim of a civil engineering fraternity is to improve the standard of life of human

ings by providing physical means for human activities. The existence of creations

vil engineer can be felt from building, roads, dams, canals & all structures. A Civilgineer learns and works with the nature . He integrates the knowledge of physica

ences ,mathematics ,sociology and management by providing solutions to challen

sed by the society and nature .

It is one of the oldest discipline addressing basic needs of water, shelter and fo

ooms civilization by providing the basic infrastructure for the businesses, industrid organizations dealing with health , education and entertainment. New challenge

stainable development ,maintaining ecological balance with ever increasing dema

r the physical means from the society can be mitigated by adopting clean technolo

o friendly materials and advanced knowledge based decision system with integrat

    th other engineering disciplines.

Therefore the scope of civil engineering has crossed all physical ,socio-political

chnological boundaries. The leadership, team work, good human engineering with

und technical bias will be the key elements in making of a civil engineer.

IMPORTANCE OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION IN INDIA

dia is witnessing the age of science and technology. There is huge demand for technical educ

modern age. The pattern of life evolving in this age is very much different from the one we wo

d in our society even some fifty years back. Technical Education imparts knowledge of specifi

    de, craft or profession.

neral education has been substituted by professional technical education in many cases. Techucation offers good opportunity for employment and successful career. Technical Education c

et the expanding demands of expanding society and to meet its multiplying demands. The

ustries, mechanized systems and scientific research centers all over the world prove beyond

ubt that our tie with the past is snapped and instead of bare hands we must use machines and

hnological devices for all-round development and regeneration of human society.

our everyday life and in every sphere of our life the influence of science and technology is

coming so pervasive that man’s existence in this world is simply inconceivable in their absencday. This is why, to train our students in response to the need of the time, our education must

rganized to give it the necessary practical and technical bias. Such education alone can produ

specialized armies for making and operating the modern machines.

sides this, in this age of unemployment, only technical education can assure one of a job and a

mfortable living. Those who are still in the conventional institutions, passing examination tha

ve little relevance in the modern systems, find no opportunities of employment. And, quite

turally, they are victims of frustration and find themselves alienated from the mainstream of

dern world. With their stereo-typed general education without any specialization and

ofessional skill they acquire nothing to contribute to the progress and prosperity of the human

society. They are quite aware of this and this

    awareness leaves them demoralized.

    Industrial/ Field Visit

Industrial visit has its own importance in a career of a student who is pursuing

diploma. It is considered as a part of College Curriculum. Objectives of industrial/

Field visit is to provide students & insight regarding internal working of companies. We know, theoretical knowledge is not enough for making a good professional

career. With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit/Field visit provides

student a practical perspective on the world of work. It gives them exposure to

current work practices as opposed to possibly theoretical knowledge being taught

    at college.

It is considered as one of the tactical methods of teaching. The main reason behind

this – It lets student to know things practically through interaction, working

methods & employment practices. Through industrial visit students get awareness

about new Technologies. Industrial/Field visit helps to combine theoretical

    knowledge with industrial/Field knowledge.

To inculcate all these things in students so that they can bridge gap between class

room & real world, we the department of civil engineering arranges various

    industrial /Field Visits.
